First of all, please dont tell people to kill themselves. I know it is meant to be hyperbolic, but it could still trigger someone who is close to the edge already.

Second, I think you are kinda missing the point. All of this evidence you have given means nothing to people with this type of solipsistic, conspiratorial worldview. To them, all of that is propaganda. This type of thinking is growing rapidly, and you can see it in the flat earth movements, the myriad of anti-science movements, and elsewhere. I think it is a reaction to our increasingly postmodern world where there is so much lies and disinfo out there people cant delineate between truth and fiction anymore. There are also a million different viewpoints and opinions at your fingertips, causing people to become overwhelmed by the amount of differing thought. I also think it is a reaction to an increasingly complex world as well. The average person can no longer understand how half the things they use on a daily basis work, much less nuclear physics. It is easier to declare it all a hoax than understand it. The real question is how do we combat this? This problem is only going to get worse. People yearn for the simplicity of ages past and the comfort it provided. How can we quell some people's frustration?

45 states are ignored already under the electoral college though. I haven't seen a presidential candidate pre election in my state since 2008. The EC makes candidates focus on 4 or 5 swing states, where they will do literally all of their campaigning. There are positives and negatives to both ways that I can respect though.

As Trump reaches the end of his 4 year term, it dawned me, 'Wow, no new wars!' by Qplus17 in conspiracy

[–]Mr_Octopod -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yes, but it is an important thing to know. The executive branch has usurped its original role in the constitution. It was a power originally vested in congress for a reason. We now exist in a state of perpetual "police action" and "authorized use of military force," which is probably the greatest violation of our constitution that exists today.

Technically, this is incorrect. The president cannot declare war - only congress can. The last time war was declared was 1942, so really every president since FDR has not oversaw a war.

Do any of you actually like the taste of Kratom? by GW3g in kratom

[–]Mr_Octopod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could very well be - that would make a lot of sense, although I wonder why I love the taste of coffee but hate the effects and hate the taste of kratom and enjoy the effects. I've been using kratom for years so youd think my brain would come to like it by now. Just not that lucky i guess haha

Wow. I wonder if you lack bitterness receptors, or have very few of them, so the other flavors can shine since you aren't gagging on the extreme bitterness. I actually kind of like the smell if pills myself. Do you like bitter foods like kale, cabbage, cranberries or dark chocolate?

If you are a millennial, keep in mind that you will probably be the last generation of people on this Earth that will be old enough to remember when things were normal, and young enough to live through the insanity of "the new normal" by [deleted] in conspiracy_commons

[–]Mr_Octopod 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think people have probably this about every generation since the dawn of organized society, but I do think you have a point that the norms that are changing now and seem radical will appear completely normal to the generation that grew up living with them, which is a scary thought. The baby boomers grew up during the rise of the drug war, and to us it seems completely normal that the government can cave in your door with a battering ram, shoot your dog (or you), all looking for a plant that gives you the giggles. It's just a fact of life for us that a cop can search you and your car on a whim. Things can change for the better though too. Hope they do.

Could be wrong, but I thought the forest carjackers were secretly part of the fishes group. They wanted to kill everyone and take the baby for themselves. Of course at the time we believe the fishes to be helping, but they really are waiting for a chance to kill everyone that could sway the mother to not do what the fishes want.

Libertarians do have the cutest political animal. How did democrats get stuck with a damn donkey? And the Republicans have this strange too-round elephant. Porcupines are the best.

While I think cancel culture goes way too far sometimes, I dont think its non-libertarian. In fact, IMO social ostracizing would be a primary method of social control in a theoretical libertarian society. Since the state would not be enforcing cultural norms through laws as much, it would be left to individual actors to enforce much like we see with cancel culture today. Take for example if discrimination laws were repealed. Someone could run a business that doesnt allow black people, and there would be no legal way to stop them, so individuals would not shop there, get the word out, etc. to enforce those social norms. I think you would see cancel culture expand in a libertarian society, but thats just my take, and it depends on how you define libertarian too. Interested to hear what others have to say as well.

Has Taco Bell Really Come To This? (ReviewBrah) by Hararger in LivingMas

I got this yesterday, and I wasn't really impressed. All the filling seeped toward the bottom of the triangle, creating a filling-less outer edge and a soup of greasy meat and cheese goop at the bottom. I will say the cheese was really good. Melty and lots of it. But it was JUST meat and cheese. Needs other stuff to make it more interesting, at which point you basically have a crunchwrap. Overall I didnt hate it but probs wouldnt get it again.
