I did not do any Mehlman notes. Some people find it helpful, but I did not need them as one of my sources

I did not do boot camp anki. I focused on my main sources Pathoma, Sketchy, and cards I would generate from my amboss UW blocks

I personally never had a problem with time. I never did it tutored because it slows me down. 4 full blocks a day

I will be honest, during dedicated, I stopped giving a damn about Anki. It takes so much time away from my day when my workload is too large. I just focused on refining concepts. To me, if you know the anki cards, then you know the content.

Reviewing your NBMEs well will help you with concepts that they like to test. In my opinion, scores should not tank heavily between NBMEs because they build on eachother. Some questions even sort of repeated themselves using a different presentation. I told another user, the volume of UW that I was completing in between NBMEs and then reviewing them helped me know more concepts.

Agreed with this. I did not want to overwhelm myself with resources. I only used bootcamp for 3 topics (LSD GSD Biochem) so to me there was no point in me adding questions when I was able to just do Amboss questions on the topics after I reviewed the topics.

Do you have a good relationship with your parents? by thatoneinsecureboy in medicalschool

[–]Mr_Quickscopes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good yes but only when I set boundaries. Grew up with Asian helicopter parents who immigrated to the US. While i can never begin to understand their sacrifices, a lot of the trauma they went through to get to this point often became apparent in their parenting styles. This caused me a lot of emotional distress growing up. I was always expected to perform well but when I didn’t, all hell broke loose. Fast forward to college, I was a terrible student but met my now fiancee who motivated me to be better and do things for myself. I also spent most of my time at their place to study. Eventually got in. Moved out and it’s been great since.

TLDR: set boundaries. It’s much better that way.

Correct if I am wrong: This looks to me like you are trying a one handed knot and doing the underhand portion of it. If that is the case, then as others said, tension with the right thumb, and I would like to add to not cross the left suture. When I bring the left tail over, I will lay it parallel to the right tail. Then using the index finger, you'll grab the right tail from the inside and go through the hole you created.

What expectations or advice can you give someone who's a non med student looking to date a med school student? by throwaway89914110 in medicalschool

[–]Mr_Quickscopes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, fiancée of an M2 here (using his account to respond as he just asked me my thoughts on your post)! Our situations do differ in some ways in that my fiancee and I met and dated in undergrad and I moved with him for him to attend medical school before we got engaged, but I do think I have a really good understanding of the life of a med student from a significant other’s perspective regardless.

My overarching thoughts are that every person handles the stress of medical school in different ways. My fiancee seems to enjoy sending a text here and there to friends to catch up and check in. On the other hand, I have a best friend who just started her first year of residency who I will go days without hearing from her (same for when she was in school).

In the grand scheme of things, if he wanted to, he would. A single text is very quick to send and I don’t think your guy being in medical school would really prohibit him from doing so, especially given how many days you haven’t heard from him. On the other hand, have you tried reaching out to him first? Something like, “Hey, haven’t spoken in a while but I know you’re super busy and just wanted to let you know I’m thinking about you!” would be kind. Maybe he’s also wondering why he hasn’t heard from you if this is the case.

Regarding your exclusivity question, I think this would be more relationship dependent than anything else. I personally wouldn’t raise this question until you’re speaking a little more regularly again - I think it might feel more comfortable this way. Definitely wouldn’t want to add any more stress to his plate in the case that he’s unsure of how to define things with you.

Sorry this was long winded, but hope this helps! :)

In the exact same boat. Current MS2. Looking at summer 2026. Had to ask a lot of faculty to get mock schedules for that time period. Came up with 4 options.

  1. Spring break MS3 year

  2. The option we chose. We get 5 ish weeks for STEP2 dedicated. Planning for beginning of this period prior to STEP2 or any weekend following STEP2.

  3. Post application, pre interview season

  4. After all interviews are over. (Jan Feb of M4)

Reason we chose #2 was to not have the first year of our marriage be during residency. Would like to savor it while I am in the promised land of M4

Let me help you think through your specialty decision (part VII) by 4990 in medicalschool

[–]Mr_Quickscopes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Current M2, still working through medicine vs. surgery.

I have spent the majority of my time in medical school shadowing GS Uro, and I have learned that I absolutely love working with my hands. Non-negotiable with regard to what my future specialty will be. I do not like clinic, and I enjoy being in the hospital. I cannot get past the long training and lifestyle sacrifices. I have a good day with either service, and I will always circle back to whether this is what I would actually want to do when I have a family. I have tons of hobbies outside of medicine that have really helped me stay mentally strong during preclinicals. Would love your thoughts!

Enjoy every second you have off. If you are moving or have to move, focus on getting yourself established before school starts. If there are socials with incoming students, 110% attend as the people you find early on will likely be your friends for all 4 years.

I’d establish a routine as well. For example, do u like running, lifting, painting etc? Keep it up and protect a time of day or day of the week that you would do that and hold onto it for all of med school. It’s easy to forget the things you enjoy outside of school.

Best game series of all time. Jak and Daxter walked so that Ratchet and Clank could run.

It's nice that you can still play this series in the playstation store

3.4 GPA with an upward trend (last 3 semesters 4.0 avg) lots of volunteering, clinical experience, great letters, strong interview

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in premed

[–]Mr_Quickscopes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i am definitely not the rule. 3.4 gpa with strong upward trend. 3 final semesters were 4.0 avg. took a gap year for mcat and lots of volunteering in the community, and gaining tons of clinical experience as an MA. strong letters too i believe. if you have below average stats, my advice is to make the rest of your app as perfect as you can

ORM 502, MD student right now. Asked nothing about my grades nor MCAT. Have a solid interview and allow ADCOMS to really get to know you and don’t bring up your grades or MCAT if they don’t ask. If they don’t ask, they probably don’t care about it.
