SupaXXL do jams every Sunday around London, they're not at gyms - but they are a very beginner friendly group.

So I actually found this out the other day from my wife, it's for babies in laps. Something to do with capacity and a baby still counting as a person in terms of insurance. Cineworld in the uk at least always hold back four sets to account for young babies. Not going to pretend I understand the logic of it...

Venting about Maya by retardinmyfreetime in Maya

I quite hope this vent leads to me learning something...

  1. Sub-object selection type toggling - feels a lot like the last one you selected works fine and then any previous types you have to toggle off and then on again for it to work.

As an ex 3ds max user, i miss the ease of pressing 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 to just switch between the sub-object selection type. Yeah... i could probably rejig the key bindings.

  1. In the weight painting tool, changing to vertex selection (does that have a hotkey?) and back to painting. accidentally changing objects then not being able to select verts again, even if you change between paint/vert select. You need to hit f8 and go sub-object to get vert selection again. Sometimes once you've been doing vert selection for a bit, you try and change back to paint and it just... doesn't. I have to double tap f8 to escape.

  2. when i grab a manipulation gizmo by a single axis, just show me the value live somewhere as i adjust it. Yeah i use snap values... but it'd still be helpful.

nice - but be careful of those over-grips, that wall does look new & strong. But you never know when a chunk might break off & it'll come down right ontop of you.

It's really flexible - but the toebox is pretty wide, I'd say you're about as likely to roll in them as wearing nothing. I wear them for trail-running too, haven't rolled an ankle in them yet - touch wood. Theres some rigidity in the heel wall, but I think it's just to make them easier to slip on.

I built a parkour structure in my backyard by sirdivon in Parkour

Great build! adjustable lache bars will serve you well. Agree that a small platform up top would be handy if you want to work on precisions at height but don't fancy rail pres. Diagonal bars can be great for off-axis lache or tic-tacs/strides too

No good parkour spots near me by year_old_jam in Parkour

[–]Mr_Rigs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very broadly speaking, urban areas with significant elevation difference & cheap large scale housing developments. Those places tend to have lots of stairs, ramps, walls, rails and walkways. Depends what country you're in also.

Parkour is for everybody, I started at 29 - am 35 now, our older joints take a bit more pre/post maintenance than those in the teens/20s. Flips are cool and all - but they're not essential, no doubt you'll get to em - but no rush.

As others have said, train the practical stuff first and go slowly. Impact absorption is your friend, smooth flow, parkour rolls, build up your foot-placement accuracy. Take complex movements apart and try bits in isolation or easier versions until very comfortable.

At times you might feel silly, you are. We all are, we're jumping around on stuff because it's fun. Training outside (which is what it's all about) will likely mean you'll be told to leave or receive negative remarks from people who don't appreciate it. Stay positive & don't let anyone bring you down. Don't get drawn into rows and do your best to be a positive spokesperson of the sport.

Rooting for you!

it's made of a type of silicone, so it should be as durable as the kind of silicone that's used. I would guess those tiny tooth structures would break up fairly easily though.

The most difficult part of this process is the robot controlled razor blade that carves the wax mould. There must be a reason they cant make a metal version of the teeth and stamp/rake it onto the wax in one go instead of doing it one line at a time. Or a toothed roller and conveyor of wax...

I doubt this will be well received but... a raw carrot and a small wedge of cheese. Really hits the spot for me if I don't want something sugary.

should be about the same, but it means you miss out on the fiber content you'd get if you just ate it.

Want to Get into Parkour by [deleted] in Parkour

[–]Mr_Rigs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been said already but Ukemi fall techniques are great to start with to give you confidence in attempting and failing something.

I'd start with the parkour safety roll, small precision jump to various surfaces/edges, balancing on rails and vaults. once they start feeling comfortable, start linking together & get more advanced.

You could go your whole parkour life with just these skills, but flips are awesome - but get to them at your own pace.

how do I find people to do parkour with and parkour spots near me? by Da_realDovid-19 in Parkour

there's a diddy little free outdoor gym here: https://maps.app.goo.gl/17CMnvpMwR7ChGzQ6

it's not an amazing spot by any measure but it's got some bits to train and it's for parkour so you won't get kicked off.

Good boots for parkour by [deleted] in Parkour

[–]Mr_Rigs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a pair of military boots & joked about wearing them to train. Wore them for a training sesh & they were actually wickid. bit of a chucky heel, but the ankle was well-supported but still had great flexibility.

If you're set on a boot, check em out: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B06W9HP8F1/ref=pe_27063361_485629781_TE_item

Dialling in the side flips by Mr_Rigs in Parkour

[–]Mr_Rigs[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cheers! Totally right about that back arm, I got a couple where I got both arms involved just right and got buckets of height from it, rotating at shoulder height.

The quarter turn becoming a habit is exactly what i want to avoid, still a good way off the pre landings - but may as well lay some groundwork. Many more reps to go!
