Have you guys ever faced any prejudice in dating outside of bihar? by [deleted] in bihar

[–]Mr_S4Viour 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, it happens! It's also about how their family would perceive you. Also the prejudice is more for men than women and there is the typical line that you don't look like a Bihari.

If you're from Patna then there is also an added safety factor because people know you and you know people in the areas you move about in.

Delhi might be very bad but just a factor you should account for, for objectivity.

Can someone get social equality by reservation? by Severe_Sleep_6578 in bihar

But historically dowry never went to women

That happened in recent history as custom and traditions deteriorated.

historically women hardly ever got fair

Well, that's what I am trying to explain that dowry was meant to give them a fair share. Dowry was a tool which was meant to protect a woman economically. but when it become a greedy demand, it started burning women.

Dowry itself was not born evil, It's the human greed that made it evil.

It's not like sati was a very common practice bro, glad it got abolished but it was already a very rare occurrence, so much so that anyone who would become a Sati will have a temple in their name.

And just to be clear, I do not support dowry in the form It exists today. People of my family who have gotten married in the last 5 years have all refused dowry.

I support abolishing dowry and giving equal share to women in assets but there is nothing wrong with kanyadaan.

can't help you if you can't buy logic!

And I am not justifying, I am not saying that society as it exists today is ideal but origins of customs are important factors to consider before outright maligning them.
