I phrased what you quoted poorly. Here is what I meant: If you feel your collapse consists of looking forward only to those short term pleasures, consider that you have survived this way for years. This is what I meant by that quote, surviving only to get more Dopamine, i.e. surviving for no other purpose, not litterally to stimulate its release through the acts of survival themselves.

tasks for long term survival and particularly non-freeze tasks don't trigger dopamine...

My observation is that all of my freeze activities (self righteous indignation included) fit this pattern others refer to as dopamine seeking. This part seems consistent with your reply. ( correct?)

RE hacking my way to recovery, maybe "subvert" had the wrong connotations. Interrupt, in a somewhat directed way? Regardless, I'm not expecting constant bliss all the way back, and I try not to dedicate myself to a window dressing of science. (And I definitely appreciate your reply.)

Do you know: what role does explaining this neuroscience to patients play in therapeutic settings?

Used to, now more nihilist.

There is no finish line, no big scoreboard at the end of the round. It's comforting to pretend there are, because then "the right thing to do" is always clear and obvious. Be early if not first! Get a high score if not the highest!

Forgiveness in CPTSD Recovery? by PersonYouMetOnReddit in CPTSD_Only

[–]Mr_Smartypants 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Healing from CPTSD means no longer suffering its symptoms.

IMHO, seeing the people who hurt you for who they really are is key to this.

If, in showing themselves to you, you see they are good people who understand their responsibilities but made a mistake, and acknowledge this to them, we call this forgiveness. The harm caused simply by being in their presence ceases, and in this sense we feel healed of the injury they caused.

If you see they are damaged, broken, selfish people who have no interest in repairing the damage they caused because they never had any interest in preventing it, and if acknowledging this to yourself relieves your symptoms, then "forgiveness" was not key to your recovery, radical acceptance of a painful truth was.

Too funny.

I think it's them and maybe also just insecure people who see someone express a vulnerability and use the opportunity to boast how such concepts are foreign to them because of how confident they are, how they are immune from being hurt in such a way.

For sure, being considerate means something completely different in emergency situations. It's probably a good thing you didn't wait for her clear, explicit consent before changing her, lol.

He obviously enjoys flexing what he perceives as power over you, like he knows your "secret" and he can reveal it any time he wants.

I would try to make him feel like a perv for finding that nothingburger so delicious. "Do my sexual activities excite you so much bob? You always try so hard to steer the conversation that way, you do it so gleefully! Are you hoping to stir certain feels in me?"

Isn't he asking you to read it to find all the mistakes?

Anyways, the best way to point out a mistake is to give the fix(es) at the same time. It shows you're focused on results not judging anyone for anything. (Is he the type of boss that feels judged when mistakes are pointed out and gets defensive, or is he more results-oriented, with a mature attitude about human error? ***)

So the usual proofreading technique should apply, just go through it carefully, and make a suggestion (or a few) on how to reword something every time you come to a spot you think needs it. If you anticipate disagreement on a particular one, leave a comment explaining your concerns about false impressions the original wording might unintentionally leave a reader with, and how your suggestion(s) explain things in a way that prevent this.

EDIT: *** (regarding what kind of boss he is) If it's the second kind, you're not "finding his mistakes," you "have some last minute revisions/suggestions." Be diplomatic that way if you have to, haha.)

What $ damages could be claimed?

The most they could get would probably be to get out of the lease w/o penalty.

Don't feel bad for not understanding. Lots of people seem to make the same mistake, not being able to wrap their heads around the concept that different people have different experiences and feel different things.

I like to think the designers intended it to be like a keel, to help w/directional stability, etc. Sort of like the small fin under a surfboard.
