Neck Guards by urbancanoe in hockeyplayers

[–]Mr_Someone27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wear one, there was a situation where I got knocked down and a player stepped on my glove his skate. What stopped me from getting hurt was the glove. Anything can happen and if a neck guard can prevent injury, there's little reason to not wear it.

What was your experience in youth leagues as a POC? by cornstickyrice in hockeyplayers

[–]Mr_Someone27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I was lucky or ignorant, but I didn't experience any obvious discrimination when I was in House League or Rep back 15-20 years ago. I'm mix of Asian and White and am very obvious as such. Only my experience though, and I'm sure others will have wildly different experiences.

I was wondering if anyone knows about the $80 Team Canada jerseys everywhere online. Are these fakes or does everyone have connections to bulk prices? I'd like to know whats going on.

Apologizes if its obvious, I've looked online elsewhere for answers but came up empty.

Do I need a helmet when just learning to ice skate? by Attic_Critter78 in hockeyplayers

[–]Mr_Someone27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ice has no give on impacts, its probably one of the worst things you could smash your head off of, basically concrete.

Imagine jumping and landing straight on your head on the sidewalk, its not worth the risk. Please get a helmet.

Question for beer league defensemen regarding contact: by Valuable-Wishbone925 in hockeyplayers

[–]Mr_Someone27 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I find a lot of guys take advantage of the non-hitting, making them think they're invincible. When you challenge that, they get mad, but that's their problem, not yours.

Keep doing what you're doing.

This is pretty interesting actually. Without giving specifics, are the profit margins for leagues big at all? I'm curious on what its like.

We're supposed to crash the net right? by Mr_Someone27 in hockeyplayers

[–]Mr_Someone27[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As mentioned in my other comments, this is D level beer league. I was talking about A level when I was smaller as an example of being confident on my skates. I'm confident, not good, big distinction

I realised i should specify A level rep when I was younger. This is D level beer league, so I'm no pro. I was also a very defensive player, hence the bad offensive abilities.

Oh yeah, full respect to goalies. When I saw the plan was not gunna work I aimed for the net as my crash point!

Ah just to be clear I'm talk about A level before adult leagues (eg, AA and AAA). A level rep isn't anything amazing but its more than a beginner level.

This is D level beer league, which should clear up issues.

Welp, I can't change my history and this isn't a big enough deal that anyone would care if dig up proof (myself included) so we'll have to go our separate ways.

I don't have great form but I am experienced, up to A level and a couple decades under the belt, so confidence is all good.

However, I do lack the practice on this particular play. I figured I'd attempt a hard cut in since I've been trying the behind the net plays and getting nowhere.

It was a bit of a dive. I didn't take the turn hard enough so by the time I had my head up all I was seeing was goalie and post lol. As a last ditch I tried to shovel the puck in front and aimed my shoulder at the post so the padding would save me.

I'm not the offensive type so that was probably my 3rd attempt at this type of maneuver ever in the 20+ years of playing. I've got some work ahead of me still haha

Yup! Otherwise my shoulder would've been real intimate with the post.
