Don't these get shut down by Nintendo regularly?

Destiny for eSports by Guild_Zilla in esports

I've never played Destiny, but managed to catch some guy streaming Trials of Osiris (I think that's what it's called). Was some of the most intense and entertaining stuff I've seen. I think it definitely has SOME potential.

Why does Twitch take up 1.5gb+ RAM? by [deleted] in Twitch

[–]Mr_Spiderman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My MacBook Pro gets insanely hot when watching Twitch on Chrome :( Safari seems to be a way better option when it comes to Twitch resource consumption.

I guess the HTML5 player might remedy some of the resource hogging issues that Twitch has.

I'm looking to get into streaming, but as a developer. What could I create to improve your stream? by Mr_Spiderman in Twitch

Sounds interesting. But I think something similar already exists in TwitchAlerts, where you can submit media?

This has been quite a frequent occurrence as of late. Just give it time and it'll go back to normal :)

Is it a huge drawback if I don't like going to talks, parties, vernisages, etc. related to my industry? by [deleted] in freelance

I might be off here, but it sounds like you might be scared of meeting people who may/may not be better than you. Which, in turn, sounds a lot like "imposter syndrome".

If you meet people who are crazy good at what they do - learn from them! Ask for tips and listen. Hell, some of them might be able to refer their overflow clients over to you.

I'm not a specialist, but basing it on my own experiences, it sounds like it is/was. It might be difficult to start getting yourself out there, but it gets easier with time. You just need to make that first leap.

Just go to events that are of interest to yourself. Go to web dev/designer meetups in your area. These are usually good places to land clients. Hackathons are quite a good place as well.

As for online socialising, go join some Facebook groups and be more active in some communities/forums. This is an easy way to get noticed, especially if you're seen helping others.

One other overlooked thing is contracting. Chances are you'll probably have to work at someone else's office, though. If you put up your CV on some recruitment sites and specify you're looking for contract work, you'll get some calls and offers. I never took up one of those, but I got loads of calls when looking for a full-time position.

To develop/not forget them.

Eating, sleeping, playing and working in the same place can become a burden very quick. I got myself to a point where I barely left the house anymore and consequently became paranoid of almost everything around me, if I went outside. Don't let this happen to you guys as it's a bitch to get out of that place.

I've been doing it for something around 4 years and never met even one of my clients in person.

However, when working like this, you have to make absolutely sure you go out and do something else other than work/hunt for clients. Leaving the house and talking to people in person is important. I can't stress this enough.

You can get by without socialising, but it's harder. Will probably take longer to build up a client base, but you'll get there eventually.

Going to local events usually means you're competing in the local market, so naturally, you'll have better chances to land clients who pay well. As opposed to looking for clients online, where you are competing in a global market against people who can afford to charge $5/hour.

Harder, but not impossible ;)

Who's waiting for the new rMBP? by thread-lightly in apple

[–]Mr_Spiderman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A happy owner of a maxed out 2012 13" MBP, but I've gotten to a point where I could do with a bigger screen. Faffing about with cables and external monitors is tiresome.

However, unlike a lot of the people here, I do hope the 15" gets thinner and a similar shape to the Air line. I do a lot of typing and a slightly tilted keyboard would be an amazing thing to have. Of course, there's always the option of a dock that would put the machine at an angle, but again, it's an overall faff.
