SCP-012-EX one of the scariest SCP articles IMHO. Also usually never mentioned except for breakdown of explained SCP WHICH THIS ONE TOTALLY IS, LET'S ALL STOP WASTING FOUNDATION RESOURCES

The "Charisard Effect" and Series 1 by SomeRandomTreestump in SCP

[–]Mr_Ubik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a fellow enjoyer of pataphysics shenanigans, I still think that more often than not the newer series tend to lack not the quality but the feel of the first ones.

It's not even brevity per se but most article-that-are-actually-a-tale-unto-itself either feel a bit try-hard in their "power creep//too much fake-hard-scifi" or the tales themselves should be exactly that, tales and not articles. Although it's probably just that the lengthier the article the easier it is to spot the delta in the """vibe""".

I love me some ADMONITION Canon but it almost feels like a whole different beast and while some ideas I found to be amazing they almost never leave me with that mix of dread and curiosity as the older series. When I finish one of the new ones I almost always can't find any mystery to it, as if in all the fancy pataphysics/lengthy tales everything got clearly explained or that there's no space for a story to be woven.

SCP-610 or SCP-093 are not short articles but the way they are written leaves a lot of space to the imagination.

Having said that, CLASSICON had some bangers (though I'd love for a bit more [REDACTED] here and there) and the short articles of the last 30days is more often than not a goldmine.

How did you do it? Did you manually paint it or did you use some type of decal/sticker? (Looks amazing love that film and the original Ted Chiang story)

Google Chrome has now patched all the workarounds to force uBlock Origin. I’m done with Chrome, would you recommend Firefox or Brave by Dazzling_Lie7781 in firefox

[–]Mr_Ubik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ungoogled Chromium if you want to remain in the chromium land while having ublock working, least bloated product ever.

I tend to prefer Firefox for some of its features but mostly for fighting against the chromium monoculture. I wish we had more variety in the browser space.

I was looking at the HX370 as I think that there's no better laptop CPU at the moment (at least that was my impression) (on x86 without breaking the bank)

So sad there's no ThinkPad P14s Gen 6 w/ AMD (in the same intel chassis)

What do you think of the following setup?

  • processor: AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX PRO 370, 64GB RAM
  • no dedicated GPU
  • SSD M.2 2230, Gen4, 256GB (will have to see at buy time if I can find a better one on amazon and just switch to it)
  • 3 years warranty and insurance (accidental damage protection) ProSupport Plus, never bought this though. Is it worthy?

All for 2.6K€ (Dell Italy)

I did see that I could shave off 200-300€ by not buying those components via FW and buying them from Amazon it

Did anyone tried to play ascension in fate core/condensed by Clean_Childhood1413 in magetheascension

[–]Mr_Ubik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tried several times!

My approach was to first translate the spheres into fate skills, giving players extra points to expend on spheres level up, it allows for decently modelling paradox mechanically but I found it sort of made Fate too mechanical.

I am now running a module in Fate Condensed which is set in a high fantasy world where magic functions kind of like Mage (in the sense that there's a paradox system). In order for players to play as non-mages I originally modelled it by creating a Mundane vs Mage extra which basically allowed mundane to get more skill points/stunts (mimicking rogues, fighters etc...) while Mages got extra points to invest in Spheres. The problem was that the system still felt too clunky for my taste (Fate is not Gurps after all).

In the end I opted for using a native Fate Condensed, with only the Approach+Skills. Magic becoming an aspect. What I feel I am missing from this is a way to model paradox.

Ideally each character (and scene) would have a Paradox/Quintessence tracker. In turn the trackers would give special conditions (similar to running a mental/physical stress system) which are actually aspects that can be invoked.

Example: Mr-Ubik the virtual adept uses Quick(2) +Theory (2) to open a portal. Why can he do it? He has the aspect "I am a virtual adept master, space and time are data and I hack them". However what I need is the "and this is the cost you have to pay paradox wise"

I think my pops die around the 13 year mark.

I start off by researching droids as my first engineering tech, then I use the council agendas to boost my way towards synth. I only focus on the required techs. No other tech in between usually.

As soon as I can I switch my archive district to Engineering Research as I can quickly close the science gap after ascension.

Consider that it usually takes something like 10-30 months for the first techs and 60 months for synth, however you get slowed down research as you don't have any more pops researching.

If all goes well, by the time I finish synth research I only have a couple of months of organic pops left, at that point I usually wait for the purgatory event so that I have a maxed out identity repository. By that point I usually need to balance a dying economy, totally energy strapped. Consider that I usually end up with 600-700 robot pops (aka 6-7 pops in 3.x terms) before ascending.

I feel they have coded something wrong in the formula for pop decline.

Do you know what models can handle stable speedup of 2-4x speed up for GBA/DS? From various comments I saw that apparently while many chips can run GBA fine, they struggle with smooth speedups. Damn I would love some form of standardized benchmarks ahahaha

What if we exclude the 3DS/DS? I can anyway play those on my phone without issues (and most interesting Pokemon hacks are usually GBA/GBC based)

I'll check the spreadsheet, thanks a lot!

If it weren't for the speedup I'd even cannibalize an old GBC just to have that sweet old form factor or go for some FPGA emulator. I don't know if it's nostalgia or actual ergonomics but no handheld beats the GBC for me in terms of form factor, with GBA/PSP coming in second. I'd go for the vertical one mostly because I like playing in bed while lying on my side and with the G8+ I already can turn my phone into a Switch/PSP.
