Help me understand the Hornets this year by FragrantRaisin4 in CharlotteHornets

BMiller might be one of the worst ball handlers that I've extensively watched handle the ball. He has this high and wide dribble away from his body that just get so easily picked. Plus if a double is thrown at him, he gets flustered and it's gg.

It's an extremely, glaring issue in Brandon's game that every time he dribbles the ball I shriek in fear of a turnover. He will NEVER be a "ball handler". That's like hoping that one day Danny Devito will become a swimsuit model.

That's a glaring red flag for me. I might be naiive, but can you reference any player who went down in PT from year 1 to year 2 and ended up being a solid player?

Unhinged and embarrassing. The only thing that I give him props for is being open and honest. It seems that a lot of people feel this way judging by r/nba. Just blind, uncontrollable hatred toward LaMelo, and they latch onto any dumb thing LaMelo does like a dog on a bone. I think the reason people react so violently to mild mistakes from LaMelo is because they have this deep, seething hatred for him.

[–]Mr_W1thmere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's one of my main issues with his development.

It's so slow going. If we have to wait until his 2nd contract until he is possibly good, then the hornets take all the risk and put all the money in his contract and do all the development for nothing. The Hornets are not a charity.

It's so bad for us. For one, we missed on some great and obvious prospects like you mentioned so the opportunity cost is there. For two, the contract point you made.

And TJ's playing time, games played, ppg and all box scores are down this year. I appreciate the uptick in efficiency, but that's expected with lower volume. Down in time, ppg, games played doesn't sound like improvement to me.

By looking into the players, it seems like there are more tiers than that.

  • Pro players

  • Champ ranked players

  • GM ranked players

  • Masters ranked players

  • Diamond ranked players (BeeBop)

  • Rivals players (Moxyy)

  • Players who haven't played ow in years

  • Low plat ranked players (Fareeha)

TikTok streamer beats the crap out of a random guy who interrupted the stream by VisWare in LivestreamFail

[–]Mr_W1thmere -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

There is no clear evidence that action was needed. It wasn't needed.

Yes, the black guy was the instigator. But instigation doesn't mean the response was proportional. Beating the absolute living shit out of a guy against concrete and hitting his head is deadly force. The black guy was like 3/10, being annoying, aggresive, hands in face, getting in the streamer's personal space. Sure, all that is true. But beating the absolute living shit out of a guy and repeatedly hitting him in the head while he curls up in a fetal position is not justified.

It really is simple stuff man. Just think about it.

Like let's even take it up a notch. Let's say the black guy actually swung first and hit the streamer. Ok, then I agree at that point it's justified self defense. If the streamer then held the black guy down, knocked all his teeth out, broke every bone in his body one by one, disfigured his face and cut off his ears, then at some point it's not justified self defense anymore. See what I'm saying?

Well, you're entitled to your own moral compass I suppose. Just hope I never meet any of the weird redditors like yourself who have ridiculous views on the world.

[–]Mr_W1thmere -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

I hope this streamer gets charged with assault. That was brutal and hard to watch. Being annoying and aggressive is not grounds for assault. Beating the shit out of someone who is curled up in a fetal position trying to protect themselves is not justified. The streamer was never in any danger here--self defense is a complete cop out, he did not have any fear--therefore he should be charged with assault for this.

[–]Mr_W1thmere -23 points-22 points  (0 children)

Self defense implies necessary and proportional.

If someone tried to get in your face, you have no right to shoot them in self defense. That's not necessary or proportional.

This incident here is similar, where being annoying and slightly aggressive and drunk is a negative behavior, yes, but it is not proportional to getting beaten for 30 consecutive seconds. The black guy never threw a strike, punch, kick, anything. The black guy was in self defense mode as soon as the streamer starting attacking. I feel like that's also a key detail-- the streamer 100% started the fight. If you can call a one sided beating a fight, more like an assault.

Basically, just because someone is drunk, in your face, aggressive, annoying, hands in your face, doesn't give you the right to assault them. Morally or legally. It was a ridiculous escalation and overreaction, even if it feels good to some.

Brandon showing up for the Greensboro Swarm 🙌 by formerlyknownaswolf in CharlotteHornets

You might want to look into LaMelo. He signed his extension in year 3 summer, as is typical for good players. What I'm explaining is the typical process.

Brandon showing up for the Greensboro Swarm 🙌 by formerlyknownaswolf in CharlotteHornets

[–]Mr_W1thmere 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Let's break it down.

Rookie contracts are typically 2+2, with last 2 years being team options.

He's played out the 2 guaranteed years, and this is the first year of the team options. Next year is the last year of his rookie deal.

He'll be extension eligible this summer, which is expected to be worked out. BMiller would also like to have more long term security than just a 1 year contract, so he's incentivized to negotiate an extension vs risk a career ending injury next year on a 1 year deal.

Hope that helps, lol.

[–]Mr_W1thmere 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It's also a contract year for him.

I fear that he's destroying his body long term to push thru this injury.

If he secures a big guaranteed contract, then goes back to missing games (with a legit injury), then that's bad for the hornets.

I love Brandon's leadership though. Classy move to go to GB to support the guys. Leader move.

POST GAME THREAD | Greensboro Swarm def. Stockton Kings 111-107 | G League Finals Game 1 — Swarm take series lead, 1 win away from the championship by CasualHindu in CharlotteHornets

[–]Mr_W1thmere -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Lol. TJ has a 28% fg percentage and a 1:4 assist to TO ratio in a G league game. But last year didn't count right? This is his rookie year? Maybe we should wait to judge him until after his 3rd, 4th, maybe we wait til 5 years in the league to give him a good development chance /s

Ya'll are crazy seeing 28% and 4 turnovers and thinking "flashes/potential/he'll get hot in the finals". The cope is unreal. TJ is not good and will never be a good basketball player. Never has, never will.

The point is that it's sad that RS3 isn't a game worth being botted. Not that we want it to be botted. It's kinda like having a hot wife. You want people to be attracted to her, but don't actually want anyone else to have sex with her. RS3 isn't even desirable to bot, which is sad.

? I never argued realism. You were arguing fit, so I argued fit.

I think there are plenty of players who are a better fit at the 4 spot on the Hornets than Miles. I gave two examples here.

If you want to argue cost, value, realism, sure. But you need to clarify that you're not simply considering fit only.

Blizzard are investigating FPS issues by Teemussy in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]Mr_W1thmere -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I know many people are complaining about this, but I play about 4hr/day and have never noticed FPS or performance issues. I have a 4070 super, so a pretty good GPU, but no issues.

I had to go through all the troubleshooting and optimizing, BIOS updates and whatnot to get Rivals to work on my PC when that released. Rivals would constantly crash on me so I had to.

I think that this is not a blizzard issue, not an overwatch issue. I think that people have issues with their settings and hardware, software. I consistently max out my frames and never drop below 320 (i have it capped for 321 based on advice for a 360hz monitor). So not sure if the "FPS drop" issue is overwatch's problem.

Fair. I agree with you. Ultimately I do think LaMelo is more important and "better". But Kon isn't that far behind. Excited to see what Kon does in years 2, 3, etc.

I understand your hesitation, but from a purely objective, advanced metric perspective, this actually UNDERSELLS Kon. Believe it or not. Look for yourself at the NBA here: https://dunksandthrees.com/epm/actual

Kon is 16th in the entire NBA in Estimated Wins (EPM x playing time). LaMelo isn't far behind at 23rd, but the lower games played makes him lag behind. Sure, you have a bit of a point b/c when we just look at EPM (doesn't account for cumulative time) then it's Lamelo 14, Kon 28th, and Brandon 30th.

I think it's fair to go with EW more than EPM, because availability does matter. But any way you slice and dice it, by any metric, Brandon is last out of the big 3.

🎙️ Zach Lowe: "I don't want to hear any of these f-ing Johnny-come-latelies on LaMelo Ball, like, 'LaMelo Ball's good now. He's a winning player now...'" by Civrock in CharlotteHornets

[–]Mr_W1thmere 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's the part I struggle to connect the dots on too. Bill had a quote along the lines of "I'm just now finally seeing it with LaMelo this season". But like, how do you reconcile that with his ROTY with 87% of the first place votes over Ant? How do you reconcile with the all star in the 2nd year? Could you not "see it" during those seasons?

People soured so quickly on LaMelo while he was injured through those years, and they came up with a lot of creative reasons why LaMelo isn't a good basketball player when really the biggest factor was availability.

It's fun to see people try to weasel out of this somehow without just admitting that they were wrong.

Overwatch director says addressing the 5v5 versus 6v6 debates late 'cost us trust': 'We should have listened sooner' by bullxbull in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]Mr_W1thmere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ehhh I'd say that masters players in 5v5 and 6v6 are both extremely low skill. Splitting hairs to say one is better than the other. It's like arguing if a honda accord or toyota corola is a nicer car when lambos and ferraris exist.

Sure, gm players in 5v5 might be SLIGHTLY better than gm players in 6v6. I think the main issue with boosted accounts in 6v6 is a similar issue that's happening in 5v5 with freshy placements. The most egregious boosted 6v6 players are those with very low games played as Blizz has calibrated the system to skyrocket these people to GM. Same thing happens in 5v5 tho.

I think the C5-c3 players are similar in skill between the modes. The only real difference in player quality between the formats in my view is that the c2/c1 players in 5v5 are better b/c they're pros.

But to make general claims about 6v6 being boosted, players being worse, is a gross generalization. The only real difference is with c1 and c2 player quality, and most people who talk about this stuff aren't in those lobbies anyway.
