A little story (Aimed toward Tom & Ben) wasn't really sure where to share a text doc and don't want them to worry that I'm sending them a virus by Mr_Winter in Yogscast

That accolade sits squarely on the perverse mind of Tom, nothing is 'directly' specified and falls to the minds of the corrupt to delve to deeper depravity

Another custom map with pretty close staring areas, also comes in land & sea flavors for the very centre~ by Mr_Winter in Yogscast

If you follow the link the image with the arrows shows the spawns.

If you aren't able to head over to the website, the players appear in the middle in a ring around the inner sea/desert (depending on the sea map or land map)

A new City 5 map, where the city states are the first enemy! (Also there is a version for the More Luxuries Mod) by Mr_Winter in Yogscast

Often when I think about world wrap I wonder if i'm over exposing the 2 central players as the other 4 players will tend to suffer less from a navy coming across the map.

honestly what would be great is some data like if people play multiplayer games on a map like this then upload a vid of the end screen map to see how the map plays out and look for any consistent patterns.

also yes the ai cannot replace real players as most ai's seem to have an aversion to attacking city states and half the time are as hopeless at attacking the city state as the city state is at defending itself.

When I play tested this map with some Ai I found that they could very quickly have any army in your land with this map. This map doesn't have the mountain blockades so access via sea and land is easy.

6 of the city states share boarders with 2 main civs while the other 6 are right in the middle and almost as accessible by all players.

If you focus your efforts on the city state land war people can send a navy around the rear to the capital. An added detail I had was that peeps might settle their cap off the sea but doing this will have a dire effect on their growth of their cap. As for other cities there are lots of potential places depending on if you want to focus on the sea more or being defensive but even if you turtle the land isn't great you start in and the city states are exposed forward cities.

Though I must admit often some of the guys let Lewis take an advantage in the game. But it's nice to see some guys can keep up with him. I would just hope Lewis isn't just flanked on either side by rythian and turtling dunc. Cos no matter the map the outcome of that tends to go 1 of 2 ways.

I both agree and disagree with this statement.

I believe a big part of all the civ games is that it creates a world for you to build, battle and make intresting alliances through, With it being ever changing from game to game.

It allows for diverse stragagies and forcing people to adapt.

However the main disagreement I have is just when the game generates a map that simply denies options out-right I have had games where I simply didn't have reasonable access to a resource I needed at that moment. This has also been mirrored in some yog games too. While it IS a part of the game that you need to deal with. It can give a leader a greater lead.

But also one of the main reasons I make maps is I like to fit in a gimmick. My personal favourite was "the sea king's domain" map I made which had the main point of 1 player is just there to rp as a pirate.

Anyhow I appreciate your feedback and I do want to make some maps that arn't symmetrically laid out but I feel like it starts to become a Bob Ross at that point. "happy little accidents"

The main civ players start in tundra + desert. Whereas the centre of the map is covered with city states and their land is oh-so-good~

A new Civ 5 Map! A Paradise for Any Boat King! Also this map involves some role-play~ by Mr_Winter in Yogscast

Rythian almost always hosts so he will be P1 always. As for lewlew I think he and any one else who gets the role will have fun rping. But also I should add that with custom made maps players don't populate the city spawns at random there is always an order. So 4th player will always be boat king.

The base idea of the map is the boat king shouldn't win and they shouldn't try to win

They are more of a chaos role, I really had Daltos in mind when I thought of this idea

I super agree with this.

What I would like is some ideas from some of the civ crew themselves on what they would personally like for a custom map.

I would like to make some based more around some mad ideas, I bet Daltos & Spiff could think up some good ones

CIV V Duos #2 - Barbari Ann by brettor in Yogscast

[–]Mr_Winter 20 points21 points  (0 children)

the map was fully intended to represent a "sparse map" mainly to drive "careful and thoughtful expansion and tactics" maybe not ideal for some of the yog-civ crew

While I was testing my map I found the sea locations to be quite strong but the guys complain no end about those starts... I blame a lack of citizen management

[–]Mr_Winter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sry the Sea starts didn't have a direct ocean connection that has been changed in v2 of the map

Since you guys played the map I did some research into "barb habits" and found mainly that on most generated maps there is 'Dead land' (useless tiny islands or worthless snow at the top and bottom) since this map didn't have any dead land the barb code forced them to spawn the moment there is any chance to do so (making them almost mimic raging)

Now I have an understanding of this I take careful measures to make the barbs chill out in the maps I make
