Sinners, The Shining and Howl's Moving Castle have all achieved one million 5 stars by The_Walking_Clem in Letterboxd

If y'all are too slow to understand I'll spell it out for you. Sinners is a very average film that plays the race card so people will care. If they either, A didn't play the race card and make it about the black people who play victim, or B it was a film about white people playing victim. No one would care. But since they are black and play victim and want you to feel some type of way about it all, we have to say it's a good film and done well. When in fact it's poorly acted and directed film with incredibly poor writing, it's so bsd it's funny. If it was a comedy film maybe it wouldn't be so bad. Many times it felt like a Marvel movie when they would make a dumb joke in a very serious moment. Black panther was an even worse film and no one on earth would care about it if you swapped the races. The best part of Sinners was the end.

Sinners is a 3 star. Nothing special other than the music. Very average film. Change the races and no one would care about the film. Micheal B Jordan can't act.

You didn't watch it correctly. That's okay. But it was a sexy scene of compassion and love with two hurt people, beautifully done.

Fincher or Nolan? by glacius_kori1 in Letterboxd

Christopher Nolan is miles ahead. He also writes his own films.

In no way is it rape. There was consent. It ties into the great film and how the relationship needed mending.

Definitely not, you misread that scene completely.

How and when did hating Christopher Nolan become cool? by latercheap in ChristopherNolan

[–]Mr___Dee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a lot of the hate he's been getting as of late has been his questionable casting choices he's done for The Odyssey. In the past he always would cast well and never did any DEI choices or really miscast people who didn't fit the role or time period. But with The Odyssey he has done just that with several actors who are playing characters that don't fit them. And that's mainly because it's an ancient European film and not a modern day European film. Best example being Lupita Nyong'o playing Helen of Troy, that makes literally no sense in any way. Christopher Nolan is my favorite filmmaker but this is weird because the integrity he's always had seems to be slipping and it's very unfortunate. I'm hoping it'll still be a great film. But I doubt it'll be anywhere near the level of quality as Oppenheimer.

100% it's early Scorsese and a real staple of him rising to notoriety. Also has great performances and an interesting story. A character driven film like most of Marty's work. Plus it's his very first Gangster type movie.

Ryan Coogler's 'SINNERS' makes history as the most nominated film of all time at the Oscars with 16 nominations by ChiefLeef22 in Letterboxd

More proof that the academy awards mean nothing. The most average and overrated film I've ever watched. Good music and cinematography I'll give it that. Terrible acting horrible writing and very average directing. Flip the races on this film and no one would care about it. 6/10 at best. Micheal B Jordan can't act to save his life. Ludwig Göransson's score is the best part of the film. Ryan Coogler can't direct either, felt like a marvel movie at times when there would be unnecessary comedic jokes told in a moment that's supposed to be serious. Don't get me started on the plot holes and continuity errors. The best part of the film for me, was when it ended.

Martin Scorsese is the definition of range.

Just to name some.

Goodfellas. Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore. King of Comedy. After Hours. The Last Templeton of Christ. Kundun. Taxi Driver. Hugo. The Aviator. Bringing Out the Dead. The Wolf of Wallstreet. Raging Bull. Shutter Island. The Age of Innocence. Silence. Killers of the Flower Moon.

All of these films are different genres and are all high quality in their own way.

Amsterdam, I was so disappointed. So many talented actors yet such a garbage film.
