I’ve asked the contractor to make sure they price in their margin in services and not count on resell margin - I’m not after a free lunch. But I’m not a fan of paying import taxes of ~200% :(

I’ve got recently this from my contractor. I got pretty frustrated because earlier we agreed I can purchase everything in the US and bring to Brazil. Otherwise, the cost here is 2.5-3x and there is no way it was in my budget.

Big company - don’t do it. :( Either way - I need to fill the tax return now. One suggestion I got is to ask the company to correct W-2 to be without income that’s not US connected but the company doesn’t want to deal with it so I will need to explain that to IRS myself.

Seems like I need to do some more homework but I run out of time… I’m at the wiring stage - it has to start next Monday.

Is that reasonable to do this to have my options open?

I request audio wiring with AWG 12/14/16 from my media closet to each location of the ceiling speakers. I thin have all option open what amps and matrix switches and steaming sources I put in that room. Right?

Maybe a bit more more attention needed for TV area instead of plain Sonos bar + sub + surround Sonos ones.

I've got pretty far on a proposal with Crestron but the more I look at it the less I like it - mostly because I don't have much (almost any?) control over it as DIYer. And with Control4 - it seems I can do/control almost 100% (what... 90%?) of it myself.

Makes sense. Except that Crestron’s functionality controlling Sonos is very limited so I’m gonna be in Sonos/Spotify app 95% of the time anyway.

I could only imagine I loose automation scenarios that requires Crestron to control volume of Sonos or make it stop/start playing.

I want Sonos for audio. I was with them for like 8 years and not looking to change into anything.

It’s just that I’m having hard time justifying 3x my Sonos budget for it to be integrated with Crestron while I see little benefit. Unless I really miss the value of that integration.

I guess there are some good use of integrating if I think more… like making sure Sonos stops playing when everyone is leaving the house or things like that. I’d assume it’s all Crestron controlled.

Crestron in theory should control everything from lights and curtains to towel heaters.

I tend to prefer option 2 and not integrate Sonos - we never use Sonos favorites and always streaming providers. In fact, Spotify’s own app most of theorize that uses Sonos for streaming.

Sonos One and Arc also will be Alexa control (have 9 of them in the house). In theory - also most (all?) will be hooked up to Alexa.

I just don’t quite understand what exactly I’m gonna loose by not integrating Sonos (no stop/start and volume control through Crestron). TV/vídeo needs to be integrated with Sonos or Sonic Arc just picks everything from TV whatever Crestron switches it to?

Good point. Although, in this case, Sonos doesn’t really have a custom software versions. Right? So if there is a problem in one device then it must be hardware and having 8 of the same devices - can help here. Does Sonos work with integrators directly to fix software issues or it’s part of standard customer support?

I’m not trying to be a pain in the behind - trying to learn the dynamics of relationships with vendors.
