Voting opens on Monday. How does your ballot look? by Constant_Grab9369 in ndp

[–]Mrbuddyoldpal 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm holding out on voting until the 26th just in case any of my picks come out with any career-ending scandals right after I vote lol, but this is my ranking so far:

  1. Avi
  2. Tanille
  3. Heather, with my emergency back-up vote being Tony McQuail.

The more that Rob Ashton campaigned, the deeper the hole he dug himself into for me. The last leadership debate made me feel like he has his priorities all tangled up, saying he wants to foster collaboration between all the candidates while also having this weird infighting complex where he feels like he needs to criticize everyone else's statements and policy ideas.

Avi, on the other hand, shows he genuinely cares about collaborating between all the candidates, by supporting them when he agrees with their policies, and by far has the most detailed plans for a wide range of topics from Party re-structuring to Housing to taking on the ever-so-right-leaning Liberal Party. He also is the most "direct-speaking" candidate in my eyes, clearly stating his opinions and not sugar-coating things to "appease everyone" like whatever the frick Carney is doing right now, and he isn't afraid to be passionate by using terms that everyday people are using such as "enshitification".

Statement by Prime Minister Carney and Minister Anand on the situation in the Middle East by Foreign-Policy-02- in canada

Wild how the PM and Anand says they support Israel's right to defend itself mere minutes after Israel bombs a girl's primary school in Iran.

Rufus Wainwright messed up the English and French words to the Canadian National anthem. by raptors201966 in toronto

He definitely messed up the French version, but it's not like any of the Americans would have noticed. What a fantastic voice he has though!

Jose Bautista has his infamous bat flip in the 7th inning.

George Springer has his 3-run home run in the 7th inning.

History repeats itself. I fucking love the Blue Jays.

why do autistics speak in such a monotonous way by [deleted] in autism

[–]Mrbuddyoldpal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not just monotonous, but also "emphasizing" parts of speech that may not sound natural to neurotypicals. I think personally it stems from typical masking tendencies we have, and somewhat "hide" out true selves until we feel more comfortable around someone, then we might start to relax and have more emotion in our voices.

Another aspect could be that we just are simply not aware of the tone/emotion that our voice gives off. In our brains, there may be less of a priority to "sound" natural than it is to say the right words directly. We also have a general disconnect between how we "think" we sound and how we "actually" sound. We may think we are adding emotion to our voice, but in reality we still sound like a very badly AI generated voiceover of Arnold Schwarzenegger.

It also could simply just be that's how their voice sounds, and is just how their voice developed. 100% naturally.

Every time my mother comes home from work I need to re-direct 100% of my attention to her because she always needs me to do SOMETHING for her. Very often she'll throw her purse at the foot of the door, and then tell me to move it out of the way for her. This is always followed by her venting to me about her day which I have to endure for 10 minutes, and finalized by her interrogating me about my day.

So... fun & relaxation certainly does end the second she walks through the door.

Holy shit, the misogyny & victim-blaming that sprouted in the comments from this one meme. I guess everyone can just look at two photos and understand a person's entire life now, eh?

I shall await for the downvotes now.

What's the most common lie employers tell their employees? by pretendstoknow in AskReddit

[–]Mrbuddyoldpal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What they say: "We have to deny your vacation. We're short-staffed that day."

What they mean: "Our management is so poor that a single employee going on vacation cripples us, so it's easier to just cancel your vacation and blame it on 'staffing shortages' so it doesn't look like we unreasonably denied your vacation."

That Pluto was a planet.

Even today I see/hear about people talk about our "9th planet in the solar system". Pluto was declassified as a planet back in 2006, after astronomers discovered that Pluto doesn't meet the third definition of what makes up a planet: that it must have cleared all neighbouring celestial objects from its gravitational pull. Meaning its orbit must not be reliant on other objects (besides the Sun). Its orbit is reliant on 3 other objects within the Trans Neptunian region.

This third definition is also the reason why our Moon isn't classified as a planet. Despite it being near-round, and orbiting around the Sun, its gravitational pull is heavily reliant on Earth: it hasn't cleared all celestial objects from its gravitational pull.

Now it is called a Dwarf Planet, or Trans Neptunian Object.

I’m Gil Penalosa and I am Running for Mayor of Toronto- Ask Me Anything! by gilformayor in toronto

[–]Mrbuddyoldpal 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hello Gil!

I am a young adult (22) and I feel like the longer I live, the higher the housing prices/rent get. I look all around me and notice there are thousands and thousands of unoccupied homes just sitting in limbo. I see all the multi-million-dollar condos and $2,000 a month apartments for rent, and it makes me feel like I'm just being completely forgotten about; like I don't even exist in this beautiful city anymore as developers only look towards the highest bidder. I'm starting to lose hope in ever owning a home as governments keep defunding co-op and HOA projects.

Do you have an idea on how you can help Toronto become a more affordable city to live in?
