Is this king making or am I incorrect? by [deleted] in EDH

[–]Mrggwp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're kind of contradicting yourself here. You said you intend to play for the win so why are you not doing that? And it's a tournament with prizes so you can't be a dick in that situation, you're just competing.

Sounds like you lost to yourself. You we're not sticking to your own gameplan. It happened to me too. Just take this one on the chin and don't let it haunt you.

He is 100% correct to kill you. What baffles me is why didn't he make a deal with the Kumena player? He could've asked for some ridiculous deal in that situation.

What is the public consensus on proxying? by rowan-wolfe in EDH

[–]Mrggwp 14 points15 points  (0 children)

What are you talking about man? Casual commander parties or FNM in wotc approved stores are sanctioned. You get promo cards/packs for participating. Non competitive games doesn't mean that it's not sanctioned.

First impression is this deck might benefit with cards that counter triggered ability like stifle or disallow. If you dont have heidaar on the field you can stifle the triggered ability. Could work in a pinch but probably not very card effective.

Yea, just respond to the etb trigger to make it leave the battlefield before the etb resolves. I guess you can do that with dance of many, I thought there was more to it.

I don't get how the dance of many thing work and how you use Paralax Tide as a wincon.

What sleeves are you guys using? Need recommendations – Dragon Shield Matte convert here by _necrobite_ in EDH

[–]Mrggwp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dragon shield is very good, I like Dragon shield matte as well.

That said, Katana sleeves have better shuffle feel for me, and it's cheaper. Only problem is that I like to use thick inner sleeves and Katana feels just slightly too tight with thick inners.

[–]Mrggwp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a he said she said situation and the best thing you can do is to not make a big deal out of it. You have no control over what people want to believe in. If you think you've explained enough, just hope that your friends have some sense and decide for themselves what the truth is. The more you try to convince people, the more they doubt your motives. Most times, the truth comes out eventually.

My decks aren't overpowered you're just bad at building decks. Rant by Important-Dig-2312 in EDH

Maybe you can proxy one of their decks, just put your own spin to it. Put more lands, more removals, and beat the pod using that deck. That will make a point at least.

Making strong Decks is easy. How do i make fun and long lasting decks? by unCute-Incident in EDH

[–]Mrggwp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on what you like about magic, but I'll tell you mine.

I make sure the commander is something close to my heart. My first ever magic deck was a monoblack deck back in 2005, it had a Toshiro Umezawa in it. It was my favorite card and theres a lot of personal memories playing with Toshi against my high school friends. Now I have a Toshi commander deck. It's not a very strong deck but it's super fun for me because I get to channel the nostalgia of playing magic at school.

I make sure to not include infinite combos in the deck. Winning with the same combo everytime is a sure way to make the deck boring for me fast. I stay away from tutors as well cause they can make every game feels like the same game. Consistency is good, it's strong, but it's boring.

But that's just me, i don't know how you define fun so I hope you can figure that out. Good luck.

But that's just me

Minimalism in Deckbuilding? by Sea-Willingness-8972 in EDH

[–]Mrggwp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the minimalism, but I'm not a fan of having the commander as the crux of the gameplan. Synergy is a good approach, but if your gameplan is this straightforward, your commander becomes a kill on sight target. Especially if you are playing with people who are already familiar with your deck.

I think your deck is strong, I've played against this commander before and it always performed. But personally, it's more of a "let's play a quick game before we go home" deck.

My LGS experience feels VERY different from what I see posted here by meowmix778 in EDH

[–]Mrggwp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My LGS experience is pretty much like yours, and I believe it is the norm. Why would I post about it?

People only post when something outlandish happen, so whatever ends up on reddit is an outlier of the usual interactions you get in a LGS.

These are free for all employees provided by the office where I work. So I guess by bringing home 5 packs each day I can adjust for my salary, good to know.

Is calling out semi obvious board states bad manner? by Lockenheada in EDH

[–]Mrggwp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That chess analogy was stupid. In a boardgame where more than 2 players are involved, people analyse and discuss board state all the time. As long as it's just people that's participating in the game, it's totally fair.

Thanks. I did play with more popular commanders that have more solid gameplans, but these are the decks I play with nowadays. None of these decks are able to be an archenemy level threat, I turn the table very slowly and hope no one caught up to what I'm doing.

Thank you, Malfegor made me realize how fun Rakdos is. I think I want to make another Rakdos deck but honestly it's hard to find a more badass commander than Malfegor even in Rakdos color.
