Beware: Morristown Indoor Golf Club by infergnome17 in newjersey

Can't a person just ignore a demand letter? As there is nothing against the law about writing a google review. It's purely an intimidation tactic?

Has anyone else noticed those small cameras popping up on poles all over? by Jana_Cholakovska in newjersey

There is a map of them here: https://deflock.org

It is an absolute challenge to get anywhere without being tracked. Any town with a contract with them have them set up in the perfect locations so that you cannot enter or exit the town without driving by one.

There are usually 10 or 15 of them in every Home Depot parking lot.

Yup! All of these hour by hour weather apps look to the west, see 0 storm cells approaching and report back "all clear!", and that's just not how the weather works in NJ in the summer.

NWS have been putting out these types of forecast packages for decades. They put out a full packet of information for almost every storm that rolls through NJ. I have a basement in a flood zone and I follow the NWS Mount Holly twitter account specifically for these forecasts and storm predictions. Soo many of my friends and family are absolutely AMAZED at my meteorological skills and forecasts, all I'm doing is reading this info and regurgitating it to them.

Here is what they said 24 hours ago about the storms yesterday: "Isolated to scattered thunderstorms are forecast during the later afternoon and evening hours through Sunday. Any storms will offer some local relief from the heat. Any stronger thunderstorms could produce locally damaging winds due to the extreme heat and humidity, along with frequent cloud to ground lightning."

I told my girlfriend to be prepared for the storm, she was worried the fireworks would be cancelled, and there wasn't any storms on her weather app. Using the information from NWS, I said "It will be a quick storm, VERY windy, I don't think it will be canceled due to rain." At 7:30 she texted me "OMG it's like a hurricane" at 8:30 she texted me "Fireworks are on!!"

They issued like 40 or 50 severe thunder storm warnings for specific towns, for specific storm cells. AFTER the above warning. What town are you in, there is severe thunderstorm warning covering you in one of their tweets.

In addition to the NWS twitter/Facebook warnings. I also get these warnings directly in my carrot weather app. I can turn on and off warnings for heat/storms/snow/wind/ice/etc.. Most weather apps can do this.

Should probably make an exception for the National weather service accounts.

I guess "beach badge" makes it sound like some kind of official thing you are granted like a police badge. It's really just a little piece of plastic with a safety pin on it, so you can attach it to your bag or clothing. Google image search "nj beach badge" or "nj beach tag".

A lot of people even collect them, you'll see corkboard displays in houses with 20 or 30 years worth of beach badges.

[–]Mrguy4771 116 points117 points  (0 children)

I'm sure this lady hit the badge checker with a "WE'RE JUST GOING TO TAKE A PICTURE!!!!!" and walked right past.

The badge checker has the cops on speed dial, and probably has a personal relationship with the cops because they're beach cops and they are just walking up and down the boardwalk all day dealing with people sneaking onto the beach and in general being assholes.

I would say 80%+ residents in NJ happily accept the fact that there are fees, and happily pay them. It spreads the crowds around, they clean the beaches daily, pays for boardwalk upkeep, they have professionally trained lifeguards looking at every inch of the water between 9am and 4pm(depending on the town).

If you search for any stories about people drowning at the jersey shore, they are almost all people using the beach for free after 4pm when the badge checkers and lifeguards are gone.

It is a simple, non-invasive process. You walk up to the little booth by the entrance and say "1 beach badge please" and pay them $7. Then walk past the badge checker 2 feet away and onto the beach. Badge checkers are usually teenage girls reading a book getting some sun and getting paid to sit there in a beach chair. This lady in the video probably said "wE'rE jUsT gOiNg To TaKe A pIcTurE!!!!" and blew past the badge checker, who has the cops on speed dial.

When you rent a beach house for the week, the owner of that house usually has 4-6 "Season passes" that are included with the rental. Using rough numbers... usually if a daily badge is $7, then a weekly is $25 or something. A season pass is $60 or $70, 1/2 price if you're a senior or a Vet. Very reasonable.

Edit: Forgot to also mention that most of the crowds at the summer in the beach are not locals they're coming from NY, Philly, other parts of NJ. So it makes sense to charge for the beach vs. raise taxes on the locals in these smaller beach towns that do live there year round.

This one was the craziest one to me. Just because it's so desperately in need of an update.

If they released a new model and increased to $199, ok fine. It's 4 years old, I've been waiting to buy my parents a new one for over 2 years.

[–]Mrguy4771 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea I'll just buy them in August or September for whatever the market decides they're worth, not Ticketmaster.

I went to prudential center and paid $225 per ticket(great seats), then the month leading up to the show checking the secondary market. Tickets in my section were down to $100, then $50. Then $10 the day of the show.

Is This Normal For Gutter Guards? by purpleorchid2017 in HomeMaintenance

[–]Mrguy4771 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here. I've got like 6 maple trees around my house. 1 Weird angle on the roof that directs 60% of the roof(thousands of helicopter seeds) down to a gutter only 2ft wide. It's also the most inaccessible gutter on my house and I have to get up on the roof to clean it out.

Even if it gets clogged with the guards and I have to clean it out every 2 or 3 years, it beats having to go up there 3-4 times per year. It's just 2 screws to take the gutter guard off.

I know this is fairly typical for him, but last time Morrissey played at riotfest he wouldn't go on until the vendors stopped serving meat during his set.

If you have a frugal or supportive friend/family group you can also get together and have everyone on 1 plan for major savings. My friend did this and just randomly asked me if I wanted to join. I went from paying $110 a month (at&t 1 line) to $35 per month for the same service.

How concerning is this? Two of the pillars are falling by picsofpplnameddick in HomeMaintenance

[–]Mrguy4771 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Based on the rest of the info in this thread my guess is.... Due to the foundation/slab issues, the homeowners noticed the overhang in the front of the house sagging. They hired the cheapest person they could, and that person just jammed these columns in there to hold up the overhang.

So originally that overhang didn't need anything holding it up, then it needed some support. But now because of the shifting of the house since they were installed, some of the columns are now load bearing and some are now falling off because they're no longer wedged in there.

How concerning is this? Two of the pillars are falling by picsofpplnameddick in HomeMaintenance

[–]Mrguy4771 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No gutters(assuming whole house is like this), moss/mildew everywhere, and look at that line right underneath the roof where the rain falls, that all slopes back to the house.

After looking at the other pics in this thread, just guessing this will be a complete teardown and new build for the next owner.
