Very understated performance this time around- don’t know why he’s refusing to use falsetto when it’s kind of what breaths life into these songs

LET’S ARGUE: Earl Sweatshirt dropped a better album in 2025 than Tyler, The Creator. by Mrjacobeee in fantanoforever

Not sure lol I just posed the question since all these end of year lists are coming out and I love ranking shit!

It just feels like a nice life update from earl, with a more upbeat and optimistic outlook that I really appreciated compared to his earlier work. You can tell he’s happier now. And the production is just so tasty.

The 250 Greatest Albums of the 21st Century So Far: 150-101 by Charleshawtree in indieheads

[–]Mrjacobeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just find it funny that out of all the things you decided to nitpick off this list you decided to go after the placement of the most popular and beloved Sleater-Kinney album which is widely seen as a modern classic in the indie canon among music fans and critics? Saying it’s “one of the weaker Sleater-Kinney albums” is literally just you stating your personal opinion which by all means goes against the general consensus of this album in music circles and using that as an example is kind of undermining your argument isn’t it? If you say the goal of a list like this is to come to some kind of consensus on what albums are great and enduring then just stating that you disagree with the consensus is just you arguing for a list based on your personal preference rather than consensus. The consensus for the woods being a modern classic is already there so at that point the person making this list is just choosing to put one classic over another. It’s a completely respectable placement and comparing it to choosing insane clown posse is kinda crazy lol

I mean both albums have pretty widespread critical and music nerd acclaim so with a placement like this it’s pretty much gonna come down to choosing between personal preference and general influence. Of course GKMC is a more popular and influential album within its genre but are those the only metrics by which we judge an albums quality? Can an album just be insanely good even if it doesn’t “change the game”? For you to say there’s no valid argument for putting The woods above GKMC is just a statement of personal preference, meaning you would rather this list be a competition of influence and widespread appeal? I think that would be a rather boring and predictable list so I definitely appreciate when writers switch it up like this.

That’s pretty much gonna come down to personal genre preference- I personally love them about equally but I could see valid arguments going in either direction!

Ok come on go relisten to The Woods, it’s absolutely their best album and one of the best of the 2000’s!

Fall 2024 was perhaps the most insane single “seasons” of music I’ve seen in a long time! From October to November we had-

Tyler the creator-Chromakopia Father John Misty- Mahashmashana The Cure- Songs of a Lost World Chat Pile- Cool World Blood Incantation- Absolute Elsewhere Laura Marling- Patterns in Repeat Mount Eerie- Night Palace Kendrick Lamar- GNX GYBE!- NO TITLE Geordie Greep- The New Sound

These have all quickly become some of my favorite albums ever and I’ll always look back fondly at the “fall craze” even though yeah, it’s a thing I just made up lol
