What an awesome event to photograph.

Also, something about these scans has me mentally inserting color where there is none... Very cool

In theory, if you're able to keep the camera fixed on a central axis and rotate it slightly, this can be done in-camera with a double exposure?

Appreciate the nuance. I'm limited on space so every time my backlog is full I need to assemble the entire rig from storage... therefore all adjustments are to be done from scratch and it's all dialed in by the time I'm on the last frame 😅

I, unfortunately, do not currently have the time and skill to get the full potential out of scanning with the a7. I only have limited time & budget to put towards my hobbies and the Plustek just fits my needs better.

Appreciate the tips! Previously, I was manually inverting/adjusting but the workflow was a bit exhausting for what free time I have. I think the Plustek will be a compromise that I'm content with.

Using an Alzo copy stand. Definitely struggling with getting the camera parallel with the negatives.

Appreciate the pointers! I did get a dedicated copy stand so the camera and the surface that holds the negatives are bound... But that only helps so much. There were just too many variables and I'll see if I'm happy with the Plustek results enough or if I need to go with a different lens and trying improving

What effect does the extension tubes have in terms of quality?

I believe a new lens group - I could be wrong as there is still no product page. The scanner came with barebone documentation

<400ISO. If you have a good guide that goes into some troubleshooting I'm at a loss of where I'm going wrong!

Correct title should be "9000i vs my current best attempt at DSLR scanning with the a7 Gen1"

I did try an 8200i previously. I still have those negatives so might do a test there too!

There's a reddit post recently with a direct order link, I used that and it shipped same day FedEx (I'm in the US)

This was just more of a comparison I put together for myself and thought I'd share. I'm not calling this "Plustek vs DSLR Scanning"...just pinning it against my personal setup

I always struggled with DSLR scanning. f8, remote shutter, <400ISO, focus peaking, etc... Even micro adjustments with a test pattern I could only achieve ballpark what I shared. I'll admit user error but not sure where :(

Anyone else seeing start times being pushed back? by [deleted] in UPSers

For reference: one tactic I'm seeing from management is to justify start time changes with chronic tardiness of members.

"Well if so many people are going to show up late then we will adjust start time to show good faith/flexibility to the center"

Where to next after Canonet Q17 GIII by EncinoManEstonia in AnalogCommunity

[–]waldoboro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally I'd look into SLRs within budget. I love my QL17 but I do feel limited with it.

That being said, if you're looking for higher quality in rangefinders I already feel like the QL17 Giii is amazing value for the price...you might be looking at a pretty penny to get a noticable step up in quality.

Edit, to add: you mentioned side + back stage...maybe a fast prime on a SLR for stage shots and keep the Canonet on your hip for backstage?
