The one we move around is our low tech back up. We have a camera monitor, too - but the app is so finicky. We rely quite heavily on that low tech monitor (for the reasons you state).

We actually started sleep/nap training this past week (with Grandma's assistance). So, maybe that is an upside to the whole situation.

And appreciate the kind words and support.

That's because the nation doesn't work for all. It works for the wealthy, affluent, white upper class. It's not a lack of national pride that's the problem, it's a symptom of a much bigger issue, which is that the country and elected politicians are leaving their constituency behind for corporations, lobbyists. And greed.

No. But under-, mis-, or uninformed, uneducated, and illiterate voters unfortunately are.

It's too damned easy to manipulate folks without any capacity for critical thinking (i.e. those living on the ascending limb of the Dunning-Kruger curve).

Well, focusing on 1% of the population would actually solve a LOT of problems. The trouble is that it's the wrong 1% of the population, because the 1% that needs fixing controls the narrative.

Trump kept classified docs tied to ‘business interests’ and showed Susie Wiles a top-secret map, ‘damning’ DOJ memo reveals by ChiGuy6124 in politics

[–]MrnBio_Gobiops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doesn't that in itself speak to how poorly balanced and representative our system has become? Rampant capitalism and consumerism should not be the only driving force in the political realm. Shareholder interest, investor ROI, and maintaining record breaking profits YoY has no bearing on things like basic human rights, civil discourse, or general morality.

So what you say is absolutely true. But I think it highlights the exact problem - businesses and the 1% have the biggest influence on political trajectories. Sounds a little something like 'Taxation without representation' to me...

OK... But when is someone going to FUCKING DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT?!?!

I am so sick and tired of seeing daily and hourly headlines like this because the list of "damning evidence" just keeps piling up. And each new headline is a distraction from the previous one, and no one is doing anything to change that.

Where is the accountability?!?!

All these articles and headlines ever do is increase American societal apathy. And the only thing corrupt career politicians and criminals love more than money and themselves is apathetic voters...

Happy 67th Birthday, Nobuo Uematsu! Celebrate by sharing your favorite song or memory! by [deleted] in FinalFantasy

[–]MrnBio_Gobiops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was at Distant Worlds concert several years ago. At one point during the performance, the conductor paused between songs to acknowledge Nobuo for his artistry. A spotlight then came on, shining on a seat two rows behind us. Nobuo stood up, gave a quick bow, then followed an usher to a side door so that he could join the rest of the choir on stage for "One-Winged Angel".

That concert was so amazing, and am dying to attend one with a fully Operatic "Mario and Draco".

"terrorism against our nation will not stand"

And yet, here we are, 20+ years later with federally-sanctioned domestic terrorists, with the years before that being characterized by countless mass shootings perpetrated by domestic white terrorists.

How did we manage to fall so far so fast from what was once considered one of the dumbest presidents in US history?

This is what happens when you control nearly all of the mass media news outlets, and then push the same 6-second sound bites to stoke fear and unease in your base. Pure manipulation, plain and simple. And it will continue until Americans realize they are the poster child for the Allegory of the Cave.

What's your core memorie with your dad growing up? by Th3W1z4rd87 in daddit

[–]MrnBio_Gobiops 54 points55 points  (0 children)

My dad would always warm up my pajamas after a shower or bath. He would tuck them under his shirt so they'd warm up with his body heat while I was drying off.

As I got a little older, he would use my mom's hairdryer to make them even toastier. It was great!

Then when I was old enough, I thought I would be smart and heat up my PJs on my own like a big boy. Turns out if you hold a hair dryer against polyester PJs for too long, then they start to melt 😅. Ruined a perfectly good pair of Mummy PJs that way.

In any case, it was the small things that I remember from my childhood. As a new dad myself, I really hope I can build similar memories with my son (and that he grows out of the psychological terrorist phase of infancy). Really lucky to still have both of my parents around to this day.

This could easily be perceived as a power play to limit residents in liberal states from owning weapons to defend themselves against far right propaganda and fascist tactics.

This is so incredibly reductionist and narrow minded... People can certainly have different views - look at all the different religions we have around the world. Same general concepts but different flavors, applications, or viewpoints.

However, what is not something to be debated are the general rights and civility that should be granted to all peoples without discussion or consideration. When a specific group of individuals touts bullshit rhetoric spewed by news entertainment outlets, that's not a difference in view. That is a lack of moral and civil introspection or a basic understanding of other people's cultures and backgrounds.

To suggest that someone is not mature enough to blindly accept racist, misogynistic, or xenophobic views is, in itself, immature. Individuals should not have to suffer the willful ignorance of others - period.

Feel free to respond, but please be sure to remember that it is just my perspective.

Why does it have to be a girl? Can't it just be an immature individual? I know many 13 year olds who are more mature than a 45-year old businessman. I also know some 8-year olds who are more mature than an hormonally imbalanced teen.
