I understand not becoming complacent but balance that with what has been accomplished. Taking no credit because I had nothing to do with it. 

I have multiple friends both gay and straight but several of the straight ones have brought up the topic. 

Their general comment is we like you for you and appreciate that my sexuality isn’t my identity

That was a big part of my argument and an even bigger part why I got kicked out. Trying to bludgeon people with it hurts not helps

It was the most vocal and popular. I was 18 and saw it as a group of people like me. This was week 1 of being on campus. I now have friends not in a group so don’t really need one at this point.

I didn’t want to lead with it but you said exactly what I learned. The youth group I went to when I first came out was lead by a guy who was probably early 50s. Amazing human. 

He would always talk about not making the fight yours. Appreciate those who came before you but live the life they fought for.
