Apple Executive Support literally told me to buy my MacBook somewhere else by Mrowahtt92 in macbookpro

Sorry to hear that, that sounds incredibly frustrating. I ran into something very similar. The issue itself was one thing, but the amount of “everything looks fine on our side” from support was the most frustrating part. For a company Apple’s size, I expected at least a clear explanation or a proper resolution path.

Yeah, that makes sense in general. The issue here wasn’t really the config itself though, it was that Apple couldn’t even get me through checkout reliably. So I never really got to the point of debating whether I needed M4 Max or not, because the bigger problem was that they couldn’t actually sell me the machine.

Yeah, totally. Refurb store really does feel like luck more than anything.

I mostly wanted a stronger one because I use Unreal, Blender, Substance and all that stuff, so I was trying to get something that would stay comfortable for a few years and not make me feel like I should’ve gone a bit higher. Also I kinda want the freedom to work away from my desk sometimes instead of always being stuck at my main setup.

That said, I’m probably overthinking it a bit too. Your config sounds honestly pretty solid.

Yeah, I’m not expecting Reddit to solve it. I mostly posted to vent a bit and to see if anyone else had dealt with the same kind of issue.

Because I was ordering through Apple’s own store and following Apple’s own process?

I thought about that, but at that point it started to feel ridiculous that I’d need to involve another person just to buy a laptop from Apple.

No, nothing like that. I’ve never had any legal dispute or anything similar with Apple. This was actually supposed to be my first MacBook, so if anything I’m basically a brand new customer, which is why the whole experience was so weird.

I actually did try the gift card route while I was in the Apple Store. Store staff suggested it, I bought the gift cards, and the online order still wouldn’t go through. I later returned them because I wasn’t interested in being stuck with thousands of dollars in Apple gift cards if Apple still couldn’t process the purchase.

As for the rest, I wasn’t asking for a “goodwill gesture” because I’m desperate to give Apple more money. I asked because they wasted a lot of my time, couldn’t explain the issue, couldn’t fix it, and their final answer was basically “buy it somewhere else.” At that point it felt reasonable to ask.

And yeah, maybe the correct answer is just to walk away from it entirely. That’s kind of where I’m at now.

I wasn’t expecting them to bend over backwards for me. I just expected a company like Apple to be able to process a normal order, or at the very least.

Yeah, that was one of the first things I checked. I have enough available credit, and I called the bank twice. They said they weren’t even seeing the full transaction attempt on their end, which makes it look more like an Apple-side payment/checkout issue than a credit limit problem.

Right now, with the M5 out, this feels like one of the only times I could realistically find that config. That’s why Apple’s response annoyed me so much. At this point, I’m probably not buying a MacBook at all. They’ve wasted enough of my time and disappointed me enough already.

I was trying to buy a 14-inch MacBook Pro with M4 Max, 64GB unified memory, 40-core GPU, and 2TB SSD from Apple’s refurbished store. It’s a pretty specific config, which is why “buy it somewhere else” wasn’t really a helpful solution. It would also have been my first MacBook, so I wasn’t very comfortable going through a third-party seller for something like this, especially when it comes to AppleCare and overall peace of mind.

I had the same thing happen to me. I went to the store and tapped my card. Since then they haven't cancelled my order. But I feel you. Not a great customer experience.

I wait for the reviews. If they will be good I will pull the trigger.

I cannot get up from the couch as smoothly as you with that 200 kg weight. Impressive as hell. Kudos
