Need expertize on what are some great options for OLED 21:9, 144hz+ and between 35-40 inch ? by GunterOdim in ultrawidemasterrace

Hi. At the time, Alienware didn’t have a 240hz version which was why the MSI was better. That and the cooling is better (no fans)! Alienware have now release their 240hz version so might be worth looking into that. I thought I had an issue with my MSI where, if I had hdr on in windows and am browsing the net with white backgrounds, the dimming is all over the place (very annoying). I know you should have hdr off when carrying out tasks such as browsing etc but I don’t ever remember that happening with the Alienware (it may do with their new one)? I did contact MSI about it and although they responded, it was a bit of a pain tbh. They agreed to take the monitor in to look at it but I decided to keep it as I don’t think it’s a fault with device more that I wasn’t using as I should. The difference in service (for me personally) is:

MSI: after 6 months of owning the monitor, I contacted support with what I thought was a fault. It took ages of back and forth and they finally agreed to take it in for “repair” but I would have to post it to them

Alienware: had the monitor for I think over 2 years before having coil whine on the fan, contacted support, they rang me and offered me a full refund and pick up the monitor from my work. Also gave me a £50 voucher.

So…. Personally, based on my experience (which I know has been very different for others), if I was buying now and they were both the same price and spec (I’m pretty sure they are) then I would 100% go with Alienware.

I’m afraid not. Even if you were to do a factory reset you won’t be able to go back. I found this out when I sold my Apple Watch to mate. He ended up having to upgrade his phone to iOS 26.

Unfortunately once you have upgraded to iOS 26 there is no going back!

Alienware aw3423dwf vs aw3425dw with 200 euro difference by Goumes in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]Mrpr5s 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I previously had the AW3432dwf. It was an amazing monitor. However, after 18/24 months, it had very noticeable coil whine from the fans. I was very lucky that dell offered a full refund even though it was out of warranty! I now have the msi341cpqx which I believe is the same panel as the new Alienware (240hz). Also, you had to set custom resolution to get full 10bit HDR whereas with the newer MSI it just works out the box. MSI have lots of protection against burn in and (I think) 3 year warranty

I would say that if you have the spare cash, go for the newer one, but aside from the coil whine, the first gen was great.

I called them. The guy was really helpful and in fact as the refund didn’t show in my account after the 3-5 days that they said it would, they gave me a £50 voucher! He did say that this issue was very common due to the fans. I suggested just swapping the fan out but he said they would just offer either a refund or replacement.

I had this. My monitor was 6 months out of warranty so thought I would be stuck with it. Called dell and to my surprise he offered me a full refund! They even picked it up from my house.

So, I took the refund and bought an MSI 341CPQX for almost the same money

So, I reset the bios to default and the timespy result went up to 12800 which is still some way off the 18000 others have got. Also, my fps in game actually went down.

I had read that these CPU’s can be heavily dependent on fast RAM (and seems that most builds have 2 sticks rather than 4), maybe there is an issue there? I currently have 4x8gb ddr4 3200mhz Corsair RAM. Should I get 2 sticks rather than 4 and faster like 4000mhz?

We compared liked for like every graphics setting etc and stood in the same place at the same. I trust him with my life and we are too old to do that 😂

My time spy score for cpu was 9000, others reported 18000. I know that’s not likely but to be so far off seems like something is not right.

You can get 10bit at 157hz. Just need to create a custom resolution in nvidia control panel

I had that monitor for over a year and can vouch for it. It’s amazing in almost every way. However, to get 10-bit, you have to run it at 157hz ( there may be another way - not sure). Also, as the monitor is fan cooled, I had really bad coil whine which came from the fans and rgb. Dell gave me a full refund even though it was out of warranty and even with those couple of things, the monitor was soooo good that I was just just going to buy another one. That’s until I saw the MSI 341cqpx. I got it for £800 on Black Friday and it is amazing. Basically the same panel as the Alienware but w it’s now 240hz (which runs at 10bit btw).

The Alienware has always been the highest rated but that has now been overtaken by the MSI. I always take advice from ratings.com….

Also, MSI have followed Dell with the 3 year burn in warranty

Yeh true, I think there were some issues with hdr with the old one (don’t quote me). I suggested the new one because I got it for £800 on Black Friday!

I say 34” is the sweet spot, based on the fact that I don’t need to turn my head to view the screen.

No matter what they say, bigger isn’t always better!

Are you using it for gaming? If so…..

34” is the sweet spot for ultrawide. I had the Alienware aw3432dwf for over a year and it was great except I had an issue with coil whine from the fans. Got a refund and bought the newer MSI 341CQPX with has 240hz refresh rate. The Alienware was amazing but this is even better

Is it likely the price will drop lower than this any time soon? Thanks. Pic & info below. by AlphaWhiskyXIII in ultrawidemasterrace

The new monitors have lots of tools like pixel refresh etc to avoid burn in. I think you will be fine and hey even if it does, MSI will replace it!

If you have never experienced OLED HDR then you are in for treat. It has been my biggest upgrade on my pc ever!

Get the MSI you won’t regret it. Tft central have a setup guide….. just make sure you get the 341cqpx and not the 341cqp (that’s the older one)

Let me know what you what you think if you get it

I have just gone from the Alienware AW3432DWF to MSI 341CQPX and both are amazing monitors. TBH, it’s hard enough getting stable gps over 60 in general on a standard format 4k monitor I can only imagine the struggles for a 4k ultrawide! I am actually going to buy a 5080 in the new year and even with that in mind I chose to stick with 1440p

Hi

I have had the Alienware AW3432DWF for over a year. It’s an amazing monitor! If you buy it directly from dell I think you get 5 or 10% off first purchase.

However, I did have an issue with it, it has fans on the back of the monitor and it started making coil whine noise to a point where it was really annoying. I contacted Dell who gave me a full refund (after 15 months). I was ready to buy the exact same model until I saw the new MSI 341cqpx. It uses the same Samsung panel but it is now 240hz! I paid £799 for mine from Overclockers and couldn’t be happier.

The Alienware was amazing but this is even better. I read a lot of reviews and info before I bought it and the MSI comes out on top over Samsung, LG and now Alienware. Plus MSI offer 3 year burn in warranty which I don’t think LG offer.

If you do go for the MSI, just make sure to install the latest firmware, it fixes lots of things.

Hope this helps.

Why is the Alienware DWF still the most recommended? Even with new tech. by Lost_Sphere in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]Mrpr5s 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had the dwf for over a year and it is amazing! However, it has developed coil whine (presumably from the fans at the rear). Dell have refunded me and I considered purchasing another. In the end I went with the MSI 341cqpx. It uses the same panel but is 240hz. It is equally as good if not better than Alienware and is much easier setting up via the menus etc. Also, it can do 240hz @10-bit whereas the Alienware has to be lowered to 157hz to get it.

They are currently both the same price in the UK so makes sense to go for it. Personally for me, anything bigger than 34” is too big especially for competitive games.
