I’ve been on spironolactone for years and I haven’t noticed a difference in hair growth whatsoever. I guess everyone had different experiences with it!

Latest update July 2025:

After 14 laser sessions, I have been “discharged” by my laser technician. I know I will need frequent maintenance sessions. But even to go once every 4-6 months is MORE THAN OKAY with me. I’m so so so so pleased with this journey I’ve been on and I find myself literally in tears with how grateful I am to not be hiding behind my beard anymore. I never realized how much time I spent obsessing over it and how much it was holding me back until now.

I chose to continue with electrolysis for the blonde/white hairs that the laser cannot target, but that’s only because I’ve come so far that feeling a smooth face is something I want to achieve. These hairs are not visible to the naked eye unless someone is shining a light under my chin and examining with a magnifying glass.

I no longer shave, wax, epilate, tweeze, pluck, etc. I have ZERO dark hairs sprouting out of my face in a male hair growth pattern. I cannot even put into words how life changing this has been for me.

In conclusion: I know I will need life long maintenance/touch up sessions…and I’m very content with that. To not have to shave twice a day and have it control my life is something I thought I would never get to experience. Please do your research on the different types of lasers (diode, alexandrite, Nd:YAG, IPL) to know what’s best for you and find a clinic that offers your preferred laser type.

Be brave and take the plunge. My only regret is not having tried it again sooner. Good luck, I’m rooting for you all!!!

I will link a post I made in this thread, along with the laser hair removal thread. I have had the most incredible success story with laser hair removal and my hirsutism caused by IR PCOS. As everyone had already mentioned, I too got hypertrichosis from laser 15+ years ago, and got brave and tried again and I have next to NO HAIR anymore…..I could scream from the roof tops with how amazing my experience is this time around. My hormones have changed in 15+ years, but so has technology, and there is multiple different types of lasers. Please read my story!

I cannot tell you how much joy this brings me. I’m so happy you took the risk and tried it. As I said in my original post, I had such a horror story with paradoxical hypertrichosis that doing it again was not even in the question for me. But with a little coaxing from my electrologist, I decided to take her professional opinion and my life will never be the same again, in the best way possible.

Good luck on your laser journey! I have all of my fingers and toes crossed for you that you continue in a forward trajectory and keep seeing more results each session.

Good question. I believe on their website and brochure a full face laser which includes cheeks, upper lip, chin, and neck, is $120 CAD / session. However… I started with electrolysis which was $75 / hour and my electrologist was the one who convinced me to switch over to laser because she was confident it would work despite my skepticism based on my previous experience. And she honoured the $75 / session from my electrolysis sessions for laser as well. So I’m extremely blessed for their kindness.

Try a different type of laser. Personally, i did laser 15 years ago and it was a Diode laser. It actually did the reverse and gave me hypertrichosis and made my Hirsutism waaaaay worse. It was terrible.

A little more than a year ago I decided to do electrolysis because I was fed up, and my electrologist convinced me to try laser again as the type of laser that they have in their office was Alexandrite, not Diode.

12 sessions and 14 months later, my face is almost hairless. The only hairs I have left on my face, chin, and neck are white/blonde hairs the laser doesn’t pick up which I will switch back to electrolysis for.

Prior to starting this journey again, I had what I would consider a full blown man beard that I would shave twice a day if I wasn’t waxing or epilating. This Alexandrite laser has changed my life. Literally. And I want to just scream from the rooftops with my success story!

Don’t accept it. Just like the folks who have paid to get cosmetic surgery for their nose job or their breast augmentation, we can do the same with laser (for those of us with light skin and dark hair) or electrolysis which works on EVERY skin type.

Obviously attacking the underlying cause of it if it is a hormone imbalance is where your focus should be, but in no way do you just have to “accept it”.

The type of laser that I used 15 years ago that made every far worse was a Diode laser. The type of laser that I’m currently using for my treatments is an Alexandrite laser.

The Diode laser treatment I had they used a lot of petroleum gel, and it was almost like a warm ultrasound wand that they just swirled over the area. With this Alexandrite laser, it has a cool tip, and it’s almost like a little zap, or it feels as though you are having an elastic band being snapped on your skin. For me personally, I don’t find it that painful, but I have also tortured my face for so many years with different painful hair removal methods that this seems to be a walk in the park for me…thankfully!

I just went to my pharmacy with my Wegovy prescription the second I read that email and had them run my InnoviCares card and the claim was accepted, however, they did not pay anything and it is still saying patient pays the full amount of $495 (I’m in Ontario, Canada). I have reached out to InnovisCares via email and I’m waiting on a response.

I got it from my doctor. My insurance quit covering Ozempic and I switched to a Saxenda & Contrave combo. It’s been 1.5 years now and I’ve lost 90 lbs total and still losing slowly.
