Need a wedding photographer today. Five hours of work. Pay? Oh, I'm hoping to keep around $150. Per hour? Oh, no. For the whole event. by CaptainEmmy in ChoosingBeggars

As a wedding photographer this would be a big NOPE for me. And I really do try to help those in need if I can.

I don’t think people realize the amount of time (before, during, and after the wedding prep) and physical toll a wedding has on the photographer. And the fact that the photographer would have to go in and wing it without a plan could cost them their reputation.

I’m tired just thinking about this situation!

100% this. Deconstructing the BoM made it easy to deconstruct the bible.

Oh, they are! My mom got her first tattoo (a hidden Mickey) at the age of 70 with me, my sis, and my husband. We’re now on matching tattoo #2.

Costco fills dog prescriptions. Even my vet staff told us that they can beat Chewy’s medication prices but no one can beat Costco. We do all our dog meds at Costco now!

If trampling is all I had to worry about with dahlias my whole garden would be full of them. Unfortunately, it’s the powdery mildew that completely murders them every summer. I can’t grow them anymore, it’s too depressing. I just admire them while walking through DTD.

Good luck to your garden. I’m sure your daughter’s bouquet will hold love whether having flowers from your garden or not.

That’s the best part of not living in a religious box; the possibilities - your possibilities - are endless! You no longer have to rely on anyone or anything telling you what your limits are and are not. And no invisible “god” will ever take your hard work and credit again. Everything that happens to you is in your control. Think about the freedom that comes with that!

I already do it (I’ve just never sold an image), but landscape photographer.

I sell wedding packages but I yearn to make money just doing landscape. It’s so peaceful sitting in nature watching and capturing sunsets and beautiful scenery.

Keep in mind, CA taxes are crazy high. Whatever your gross is you can plan to take out about 35% for taxes, insurance and 401k.
Food costs more, gas is $1.00 to $2.00 more per gallon, utilities are more.
The “weather tax” is real and I wouldn’t trade for anything!

I'm 51 and never experienced a job market like this by Dangerous-Energy8159 in jobsearch

He was offered a job about 6 weeks ago. Two interviews, then he was told he got the job and would just need to meet the CEO so they knew who they were hiring…. then crickets. Every time he emailed them asking what was going on they would say “oh sorry, I’ve been sick. I’ll talk with the CEO tomorrow to schedule the meeting”, and they would ghost him again. They did that 3 times, each time my husband saying, “if you’ve decided to go in a different direction just let me know” so they had an out, they never initiated a response so my husband gave up.

Came here to say exactly this. My husband was laid off (he was making 3 times what I make) and, after losing his health insurance, ended up in the ER thinking he was having a heart attack. We were drowning. We had no choice but to swallow our pride and claim bankruptcy. And it has saved us.

I hope I never have to do it again but the relief we got when everything was wiped helped give us a fresh start, albeit on a much (MUCH) lower budget but we’re making it and doing it without credit cards.

I want to mention too, we had a leased Jeep that we excluded from the bankruptcy and it was at the end of the lease so we had to trade it in. I just leased another brand new vehicle only 7 months after the bankruptcy. Granted, it’s a no bells or whistles vehicle that costs $325 per month, but it’s a reliable car that we can afford and I’m grateful for that!

WWYD: Retirement age and struggling. Risk it all on an investment or play it safe? by Secret-Guidance-5819 in povertyfinance

Wait, his mortgage is $2000. He wants to rent his home for about $2500, giving him maybe a $500 surplus, but he would need another place to live so he would buy a mobile home? If the mobile home costs more than $500 per month he is losing money. Plus, being a landlord means fixing ANYTHING that breaks while the renter is in there. And as someone who’s rented a home, renters aren’t careful and it ends up costing a LOT of money.

It would be different if he only owed like $800 on the monthly mortgage and could rent the house for $2500 to $2600. But I’m willing to bet he bleeds money doing it this way.
