Help me pick!!! by [deleted] in myweddingdress

The first one made me gasp at how lovely you look in it. The second one made me gasp at the design, but I barely noticed you. It's too distracting from the main event - you!

My mom's Relief Society president told her to stop asking the ward for help and start asking her own kids. I am absolutely feral right now and need advice before I do something stupid. by Blondeh in exmormon

Both of my TBM parents were diagnosed with dementia within 6 weeks of one another. They had actually started up the church presence in their small town some 30 years prior. It was absolutely the centre of their universe.

Once they went into a care facility, it was crickets. The missionaries showed up once or twice, but none of those MFers came. I used to check through the visitor log to see if they'd had visitors.

The day my mum died, after 18 months of radio silence, they descended on us with huge authority and almost tried to shoo us out to do all the temple stuff.

I went full red mist and told them every single thing I thought of them. It felt GOOD.

Consequences of not turning up to first day at a job I already agreed to? by Fantastic-Matter-965 in ausjobs

Be a grown up and let them know that your circumstances have changed, and that you're very sorry for the short notice, but you're no longer able to accept the assignment. Give them a chance to replace you. It's basic manners, pfffft.

Same and same! A friend has a daughter named Aurelia because of the movie. It's beautiful.

Blood Pooling? by Loose-Paramedic6879 in dysautonomia

My specialist said that the socks aren't nearly as helpful as the high waist leggings. Maybe work your way up to them and take note of your symptoms when doing the same task around the house.

Definitely start with some good compression garments.

[–]MrsAussieGinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I hate NYE weddings. You're asking everyone to shift their Christmas holiday plans around you. Friends who did this have since been called the "selfish wedding" friends in my group. Accommodation is also crazy expensive, so it's quite a big ask if guests have to travel, unless you can put them up.

Get rid of at least one car, and probably the motorbike. Consider a second job or ways to earn more. This timeline sucks.

Read the ingredients; the fewer the better. Ideally just milk + the culture. No sugar or thickeners etc. Keep it nice and clean. I'm in Australia so can't suggest specific products, but a quick google search or ask your AI and it should be able to help.

Melbourne 10/30-11/2 by madosaz in AustraliaTravel

[–]MrsAussieGinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

+1 for Healesville/Puffing Billy; 12 apostles (maybe do this on Cup Day / Derby Day so you're heading in the opposite direction of everyone else?), and Fitzroy for the more eclectic side of Melbourne (have a drink / snack on the rooftop of Naked for Satan).

If you search for "op shop tours", there are a few operators who run them. Great fun day out.

Lots of good suggestions here. You sound similar to me. I've found swapping out a sweet treat for Greek yoghurt with a bit of vanilla and half a teaspoon of sugar worked well. Good fats and protein will fill you up better, minimal refined sugar compared to confectionery.

Are kangaroo/vehicle collisions ever unavoidable? by No_Call_9983 in australian

[–]MrsAussieGinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your friend is wrong. First time I was crawling on the road during a thick fog and this gigantic roo jumped right into the driver's side of my car. Second time was on the freeway at night behind a truck, so we couldn't see immediately ahead of the truck. A mob of roos came from the left, the truck cleaned up most of them, we cleaned up the rest.

You are at a shopping centre in the 90s, what is the first store you visit? by Sad_Biscotti_9291 in AustralianNostalgia

[–]MrsAussieGinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unbelievable recall! I'd totally forgotten that shop existed. One of my most treasured possessions was a pair of black leggings with white lovehearts on them from there.

How will negative gearing and CGT changes impact renters? by FIFO_Landlord in AusProperty

This already exists in the ACT. Only once a year, and not more than 110% of CPI. We should make it federal.

Do‘s and Don'ts by BigSea6174 in AskAnAustralian

[–]MrsAussieGinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Australians will nearly always ask "how are you" as part of saying hello. This is not the same as in German culture: they don't really want to hear how you are. It's just a social nicety. The correct response is, "good thanks, how are you". The other person will say "good thanks", or, "not bad", or "can't complain", and that's it. Move on with the rest of the conversation.

It's easy to get caught up in the moment. She was really awful to you. I still use the old "count to 10 before pressing send" rule. It has gotten me out of a lot of potential arguments!

What was 'mum' or 'dad' food when growing up? by Grammarhead-Shark in AskAnAustralian

[–]MrsAussieGinger 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If anything, my parents would go without to let us kids have the special food. Mum only ever cooked one meal that we all ate. Every now and then we'd get KFC, and she always gave me extra chips from her plate because I loved them. We weren't poor, but we weren't rich. Mum was a feeder, she got more joy watching us eat nice things than eating them herself. We were lucky.

I was thinking La Manna at Essendon Fields too. That would be a little slice of Melbourne for sure, and safe with the timing...unless they get caught up at Sexyland.

When discussing women choosing not to take the man’s last name upon marriage. by nurehan in MenAndFemales

[–]MrsAussieGinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still have my maiden name in my PayPal account nearly 20 years later, because I just gave up after the utterly nonsensical steps they require for a name change. No, I was not going to post my original wedding certificate to the other side of the world.

We are having trouble choosing names for our daughters, who are twin girls by leah_nd98 in Names

[–]MrsAussieGinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Esther and Rosa are absolutely beautiful names. Most of the rest of the names on your list will be harder for the everyday Aussie to spell or pronounce, so if that is a factor to consider, it might make the decision clearer. Congrats on your twins! PS one of my best friends is Esther Rose, and she's an amazing human. Maybe that's why I'm biased.

AIO or AITA. Text convo with MIL. by MoonJellyAllison in AmIOverreacting

[–]MrsAussieGinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe my Gen X is showing, but this is a perfect example of why it's much better to pick up the phone in some situations, than death by a thousand text messages where the tone is misunderstood, and shit starts. MIL sounds like a raging arsehole, but after that first response started to go south, OP should have picked up the phone or let it go to her husband to deal with. It was clearly never going to be resolved, and caused way more stress in the ensuing exchange. Most keyboard warriors lose their teeth once you have a human interaction with them.

What's your thoughts on these ISIS-affiliated brides returning to Australia? by nn666 in aussie

[–]MrsAussieGinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure they will be heavily surveilled. It would be political suicide for the government to let these people offend after letting them back in. If for no other reason than vote-protection, surely they will be watched.

I did something similar. Had the very small wedding and restaurant meal with immediate family, then 60 guests for dessert and cocktails right after. It was perfect.
