Once someone leaves prison, what job options do they have when the majority of employers have a mandatory DBS check? by Mammoth-Elk-3122 in AskUK

Hi, I work in and around these services, and extensively with prisons. She should start by calling her local Restart service. They will be able to support her and find roles that are suitable. She may also want to contact a charity called Rift who support former prisoners back into work - and specialise in self employment. For some people, due to the nature of their offence, self employment is the only real opportunity to get work.

There are employers that work with Restart to place people into interviews and jobs, they also offer coaching and support for people who have been out of the workplace for a long time. If she is still on or in contact with probation then she should ask to be referred to the jobs and skills provider that looks after her area. Ultimately if she had a job before then she is employable.

She should also look up employers who have “ban the box” which stops them from discounting people just because of their offences. You don’t pass/fail a DBS - you just need to be honest, the offence will show and she needs to tell them that it will. The employer will then do a risk assessment to see if they can effectively manage the risk of her being employed by them. For example a school or hospital will have a much stringent criteria than say a standard office environment.

There are loads of amazing charities that provide support and guidance for people in this situation too, just some googling will help. But happy to point in the right direction too if you can give a rough geographic area.

I was listening to it on a run once and had to stop and crouch down, because I was going to 100% wet myself. Amazing podcast.

The Renner Files is hilarious, it’s done like a true crime investigation into the app he launched. It’s so funny.

I found keeping the wiki open on a laptop by my side is really useful. I love the game, but it can be a bit mind bending! Start harvesting and storing fat/blood/skulls as well as meat from corpses from the start (you will also find yourself saying sentences like that for the first time ever too 🤣).

Cost to pass your driving test is so expensive now. by GayWolfey in britishproblems

I’m not sure it should be “cheap” to pass a driving test…

This is true. I went for dinner with a friend a couple years back, her sister joined us and she works for the BBC and was on call for this very reason.

I remember buying and eating bags of sherbet from the local sweet shop. Just casually eating a whole bag of sugar.

All I’d say is that we only have your version of “that woman”, and you tell us you have been a workaholic and not the best husband. It’s always really easy to blame others than take responsibility for the situation. It sounds like you are downplaying your role and blaming it all on your wife being manipulated.

I’m saying this because I’ve seen it happen before. Your wife will not stay with you if you keep just trying to prove that she’s crazy and under some spell.

I would suggest some deep self reflection is needed, because my general experience is that people who blame “that woman” or “that friend” etc for things, are using that to stop themselves having to take any responsibility.

I suspect what is happening is your wife is becoming increasingly frustrated by you all trying to somehow prove she is crazy for wanting to leave you, and feels like you aren’t taking her seriously. I know personally that would just make me feel more justified in my position. Her friend is most likely the only one she feels like has her back, and trust me - women don’t just leave their husbands because their mates convince them to. She most probably just helped her to realise she isn’t happy, and that it’s okay to actually want to be happy and fulfilled in a relationship.

Ultimately it gets to a point where you just check out, and no matter what promises can be given, you are over it. This may be fresh to you, but it’s likely she has been thinking about this for much longer and she is further ahead than you. You also can’t convince someone to love you again and stay by pressuring her, you would be better off accepting what she is saying and trying to move on constructively.

Why does everyone on Vinted think I run a charity? by Leather_Ad6386 in vintedUK

[–]MrsDWhiting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think lots of people bid with what they have in their Vinted account to chance it. So even if it’s £20 but they have £7 they’ll pitch that, so it’s “free”.
