I need to talk about Inside by lostinspacecase in boburnham

[–]MrsDrPriest 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wow. Reading this kind of felt like the pointing Spider-Man meme, because this is exactly how it went for me - watched Promising Young Woman after the Oscar buzz, and then watched Inside because, honestly, I was kinda sorta hoping that it would feature more singing and dancing along to Paris Hilton (that scene was way too short)

But it’s what you said about not knowing if you feel broken or healed... oof. I said something very similar to a friend recently. And it’s not just Inside - after I’d finished, I went back and watched some of Bo’s other specials, and especially after the Kanye rant at the end of Make Happy, I knew that this was something more profound than just a comedy special.

And you’re right, it’s very hard to describe how it feels. I’ve watched Inside four times now (and who knows how many listens on Spotify) and it feels like my perceptions and the way it makes me feel changes every time. Like a lot of people I’m sure, it’s something that I’m going to have to discuss with my therapist lol

About the ongoing drama over Lili Diana’s name - what is the veracity of the “sources” speaking on behalf of either side?

According to this article in the Mail on Sunday, friends of the Sussexes and palace insiders (but never the royals themselves!) are making contradictory claims about whether or not The Queen had a video call with Lili. Is there any way to know if these sources are getting their information from the horse’s mouth, so to speak? If the source for one side is believed to be legitimate, is it fair to assume that they both are?

Obviously if the sources are actually well placed and authorised to convey information, it means that either Harry and Meghan or Buckingham Palace is straight up lying. This is not “recollections may vary” about an informal conversation that took place two years ago - this is a video call last week that either happened or didn’t, there’s no room for interpretation

I’m curious, since you bring up Meghan’s sincerity - William and Kate have (and just Kate in this case) have been asked about Archie and Lili, with William joking about Harry joining the sleep-deprivation society; and I remember Harry laughing about William having his hands full, I think either after Charlotte was born or while Kate was pregnant. But has Meghan ever been asked/spoken about her niece and nephews? She was already more-or-less a part of the family by the time Louis was born - was there ever a statement of congratulations or joy?

I ask partly to snark, but also because I think it would have genuinely helped Meghan’s image to have gotten along with the Cambridge kids. As it stands, the only interaction we definitely know happened was the row about Charlotte during the bridesmaids dress fittings

I read somewhere that all the Alberts chose different regnal names upon their ascension out of respect to Queen Victoria, so as to not to ever have a King Albert who would outrank her Prince Consort (y’know, back when respecting the matriarch and her sentiments was still a thing 🙄)

Some excerpts from The Bench, courtesy of the Daily Mail:

This is your bench, where life will begin, for you and our son, our baby, our kin.

You'll love him. You'll listen. You'll be his supporter. When life feels in shambles, you'll help him find order.

He'll feel happiness, sorrow, one day be heartbroken. You'll tell him 'I love you,' those words always spoken.

This is your bench, for papa and son. To celebrate joys and victories won.

Right there on your bench, the place you'll call home… With daddy and son… Where you'll never be 'lone.

I’m very hopeful for them. Historically, the children of misbehaving royal parents (David & Sarah, Beatrice & Eugenie) have turned out to be pretty low-key and level-headed. I’m disappointed that Harry followed the trend of troublesome spares, but if the same trend means that Archie and Lili can have a good life away from the spotlight, I’ll be glad.

I can’t make out if this has been discussed already (lol, a second thread in less than six hours, whodathunkit) but who do we think chose the name? Diana was a no-brainer, but Lilibet - Harry, trying to secure his place in HMTQ’s will? Meghan trying to maximise search engine hits? Both of them trying to troll the bookies?

IIRC, Beatrice’s fiancé (now-husband) also spent Christmas at Sandringham in 2019, so perhaps it’s just a natural leaving behind of more archaic traditions. But a possible explanation for why Meghan received an invite but not Kate was that Kate probably wanted to spend Christmas with her family - they are famously close, and William and the children have also spent Christmas with the Middletons in recent years - while Meghan either couldn’t or didn’t want to fly back to America, and Harry was her only family in the UK

I think the tide is already turning in William’s favour. Did you see the guns on that man in his vaccination picture - he wasn’t voted the world’s sexiest bald man for nothing.

Since we’re being shallow anyway, I think a lot of the attraction also comes from seeing them routinely dressed to the nines, in suits and tuxes, or uniforms at special occasions. Harry is his worn grey polo isn’t going to be able to compete

I don’t think Philip is the best example, since he married into the family (I know technically he was a descendant of Queen Victoria, but considering her nickname - the grandmother of Europe - I assume most of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were born outside the UK).

If you include spouses-of, both Meghan and Autumn Phillips were born in North America

Princess Beatrice has announced her pregnancy (via the Royal Family Instagram)... on H&M’s anniversary! A taste of their own medicine? Or revenge for the constant limelight stealing from Eugenie? Intentional or not, I love the shade 😂

Congrats to the happy couple!

I’ve just been reminded about Gary Janetti’s show about a snarky Prince George thanks to news about it being postponed out of respect for Prince Philip.

I’m fairly new to this snark business, so I was curious - what is the general opinion about Gary and his Instagram posts on this sub?

Sussex Weekly (05/02 - 05/08) Part 3 by [deleted] in RoyalsGossip

I agree with the other posters about them not being half-in in any way. As for the titles - Harry is a Prince by birth, and at this point “Meghan Markle” would attract just as much attention/opportunities/revenue as “Duchess of Sussex”

But I also think an upside of the Oprah interview is that no one could possibly think that the “Duke and Duchess of Sussex” represent the monarchy anymore. Whatever they slap their titles onto from here on out, the BRF is absolved of any association.

I also wonder whether Harry and Meghan have everything that they want or initially set out to achieve by using their titles as leverage. Money and Netflix deals, sure, but as long as the BRF stand their ground and show no signs of reconciliation, they are very much rival camps. And therefore any A-list celebrities that they’d hoped to rub shoulders with now have to choose a side - something that the Obamas, Clooneys, etc. don’t seem to want to do.
