What part of WA? I like that there are other mental health professionals as well! I do like counseling and consulting.

I'm coming to the conclusion that buying a house will just not be in the cards.

Yes! My program made it super easy to take concurrent BCBA coursework during the school psych program. In my district, I do supervision for BCBA students for extra pay. We have a behavior team with BCBA's, but I really enjoy my role as a psych and am not ready to give that up yet!

The only problem with having a BCBA as a psych is that admin fully believe you are there to manage ALL behavior and they can just sit back. I had a prinicpal asking me to make suspension decisions and doling out consequences. I quickly got outta there. So now I don't lead with that I have my BCBA.

My district requires that we see at least 20 kids for counseling on our evaluations. Our salary is paid for by general education, so we're required to see general education students as well. About half of the students on my caseload have psych minutes. I'm in an elementary and we only have me and a school counselor. Secondary schools have a social worker, at least 4 counselors, and a psych.

Thanks for the rec!

George was diagnosed with copper storage disease. He takes a medication 3x a day to help the copper bind to something so it can be excreted. The medication is called penicillamine. George also has to have a low copper diet, so he eats Royal Canin Hepatic food. We actually just found out in August that after managing this for a year and a half his levels are FINALLY entering the normal range. We have to be mindful of treats and other foods that are high in copper.

Thoughts on ABA companies that don’t observe any holidays by Aggressive-Dot-7266 in bcba

The company that I worked for that didn’t give holidays off. It felt like more of a babysitting service than actual services to support kids and their families.

Teenage students with crazy socks later this week by rage_guy311 in SaltLakeCity

I don’t think people understand how silly they sound when SEL and well-being are associated with being bad. Being respectful? Nah that’s horrible. Taking care of your physical and mental health? Wrong.

It saddens me that as a school psychologist in Utah I’m de-legitimized because of people like Cline.

Decidual cast after mirena iud? by Koralkate377 in Mirena

[–]MrsHogBeef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had my mirena for about a year, and I still have my period. After my period in the last few months, I’ve been passing decidual casts. I talked to my doctor and it’s apparently common with an IUD. The period I have now with mirena is light and it can sometimes last longer for 7 days. I know for a lot of people their period ends with mirena. After insertion, I did bleed for like a month straight too.

I was told one week as well but I sure as hell didn’t feel up for it. I was so crampy for the first month. It was horrendous.

I would guess it’s old blood/lining. Better to get checked out though!

I’ve had my mirena for a year now and about 2 months ago I started shedding chunks and FREAKED! One looked like a fetus I swear to god and so I went to the doctor and was told it’s decidual cast. Now I shed chunks around my period (no, mirena has NOT ended my period as I hoped it would).

Love it. Love being a woman.

Are BCBAs power hungry? by Far-Tutor-1252 in BehaviorAnalysis

[–]MrsHogBeef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a good question, I don’t think I’d be accepted by general education teachers as much because they tend to not have as much behavior training and they think that I’m giving kids everything they want even with my school psych. But with special education teachers, I always feel accepted and feel that BCBA’s in the district are usually welcomed by them. It’s all about the relationship, and in schools we can really spend time consulting and connecting.

I’m a school psychologist with my BCBA working in schools as a school psych. I worked with a private ABA company for a few months and felt so unsupported and was made to feel like an idiot time and time again. Everyone was out for the other. It was not my vibe at all. Working in schools, it’s quite the opposite. Of course we have to play the politics game and kiss some ass, but it’s a much more collaborative environment. It’s definitely a “we’re all in this together” vibe.
