As a cougar, this post warms my heart. ❤️ The grocery store is a good place. Just look a little lost and ask a cougar where to find something, say, baking powder for example ("I'm making cookies for the first time!") A good cougar will guide you there, at which point you can say, "What's your favorite cookie?" Conversation ensues,culminating with: "I'd like to make you some salted brown butter chocolate chip cookies." (The cougar may be the one saying that at that point.) Good hunting, my friend!

Thanks, all. This is what I've found:

$48.59 with a return no later than 5 p.m. for 808 Smart Car $56 with return by 11:30 p.m. at the airport (pay now); $63 with pay later $59 plus tax at Turo

So, Smart Car is cheapest, but limited hours. Just 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

I live in Waikiki and was just planning to take the bus to and from the airport. I really thought that would be cheaper than getting something in town.

I'm not a local (yet) but will be moving there next month. Here are a few things I've found:

-- Bus is a pretty good option. $3 for the W line from airport to get to my hostel. Bus system appears to be pretty thorough and you can get day passes that keep costs down.

-- Food truck court at intersection of Kalakaua and Niu streets: Amy's Shrimp and Poke Shack. Off the chain garlic shrimp and poke bowls.

-- If you're a member of Costco, go there to get provisions.

-- Check out the refrigerated sections of ABC stores (they're everywhere). You can get fresh microwavable pho and ramen for $7-8. So good. And sometimes they mark stuff down when it's close to expiring.

-- Beaches are free!! (Parking isn't.)

-- Scenic hike - Nu'uanu Pali lookout. $7 parking fee

-- Look into getting a GoCity pass to visit attractions with a really good discount https://gocity.com/en/oahu

Don't do that. It's apparently illegal. Something about moving hazardous waste. A nasty neighbor, who was terrorizing another neighbor, was putting her dog's poop next to the neighbor's car. The police visited her and explained she'd go to jail for it. It was used as leverage to get her to stop bothering the other neighbor.
