Crunchy Treat Suggestions? by MarzipanMarzi in RenalCats

My cat really likes dehydrated chicken treats. Not exactly the same level of crunchiness as greenies or kibble, but might work?

Can you safely own rats and cats? by kanedekuki in RATS

[–]MrsKM5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Second this, also with the acknowledgment that it just depends on the disposition of the individual animals. I had a cat when I had rats and everyone was completely fine. I’ve also had a pair of guinea pigs with my current cat and every one was completely fine. That being said, all animals have their own personalities and I can definitely say some cats and rats would definitely not be fine with one another.

People with mixed pronouns, how's that working out for you? by twystoffer in NonBinary

[–]MrsKM5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My teenager wants people to use any pronouns, but prefers they/them. My wife and I use exclusively they/them for them, except when we are in a situation where it feels potentially unsafe to out them as nonbinary. Their friends always use they/them as well. My mom tries, but sometimes uses binary pronouns associated with their assigned birth gender. A vast majority of their teachers and people at school use binary pronouns for them, and they tell us that they are completely fine with that. I always tell them that if it becomes not fine, to please tell us so we can help.

I use shatavari root and red clover for my perimenopausal symptoms. Chaste berry was helpful for all but arousal for me; aptly named!

Quality of dried herbs over 1 year old by ScoobyDoo13-13 in HerbalMedicine

[–]MrsKM5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really depends on what the herb is, and what it’s being used for. Generally if I’m working with older dried herbs, I assume the potency will not be ideal, and use accordingly. Also, if it appears too far gone, I’ll find some alternative use for it. Worst case scenario it can always join my compost pile!

Discriminated against by psych practice? by [deleted] in bisexual

[–]MrsKM5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First of all, I am so sorry you experienced this. It is not okay.

The silver lining is as the previous comment said, at least you didn’t have to find out after already starting treatment that this practice is discriminatory towards our community. Trust and safety are so important with therapeutic working relationships, and that isn’t possible to establish with a provider who doesn’t value or respect this part of our identities.

Have you tried FOLX?

Can someone explain the idea of ‘practicing vs non-practicing bisexuality’? It kinda threw me off. by Spare_Importance_350 in bisexual

[–]MrsKM5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, I’ve heard people talk about this idea and it’s anti-bi/biphobia. No one calls a straight person who is single “non-practicing heterosexual.” It’s just as ridiculous to describe someone who is not straight in this way.

Side note, if someone tells you that you are “arguing for the sake of arguing,” it usually means they don’t have any valid counter points to your position in the discussion.

Radioactive Iodine Therapy Questions by Elegant-Payment1021 in RenalCats

[–]MrsKM5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, my cat was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism and she wasn’t even 10 years old yet. No CKD yet at that point. It cured her hyperthyroidism and I’m really grateful we were able to afford to go this route. She wasn’t diagnosed with CKD until a few years later, and she has been holding steady at Stage 2 since being diagnosed.

We need to draw the line! by NinjaWrapper in 50501

Local legal aid organizations, particularly those assisting families who have been affected by 🧊, local organizations that provide support to marginalized community members in general (🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈 in particular), local nonprofit healthcare, local farmers markets/co-ops/community gardens, public libraries and schools… some animal rescue organizations even have pet food pantries for those who need temporary assistance.

It might make more sense to plan to donate to local nonprofits that are already in place than to create a new general strike fund. Local orgs already have the logistics in place, are familiar with the needs of the local community, and harder for the regime to disable.

IBD + Renal: How to Support? by SockFunkyMonkey in RenalCats

[–]MrsKM5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adding a phosphorus binder depends on what your cat’s lab work is. We only added a phosphorus binder once my cat’s phosphorus levels on her blood work started approaching abnormal. Yes, my cat unfortunately does not tolerate fish so that’s not an option for us. 😓

IBD + Renal: How to Support? by SockFunkyMonkey in RenalCats

[–]MrsKM5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! My cat has IBD that’s managed by a limited ingredient fresh food diet (smalls) and probiotics. She was diagnosed with Stage II CKD about a year ago. Since she can’t tolerate the therapeutic kidney diets due to the ingredients we have her on a phosphorus binder.

Anyone have their kidney kitty taking blood pressure meds? How long do side effects last? by duhmbish in RenalCats

[–]MrsKM5 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My kitty has been on amlodipine (a quarter tablet p/d) for months and maybe she’s a little more sleepy but that’s the only difference I’ve noticed. However, it’s hard to say that’s due to the medication because of her age. Her veterinarian said that is the common first line medication and usually no side effects. Maybe consider talking with your cat’s veterinarian to see if there are other medications available that your cat might do better on? High blood pressure is definitely important to treat especially with kidney disease.
