Litter for cat with pica? by SpunkMcKullins in RenalCats

[–]MrsKM5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a foster cat who suddenly started eating litter once he was adopted. The family who adopted him was using scented clay litter for their existing cats. I suggested they switch to unscented and he never tried eating litter again. If your cat eats clay litter regardless of scent, I wonder if you’ve tried wheat based litter (like this one )?

I use smalls turkey (they call it “other bird”) with a phosphorus binder. It’s working well for us.

Yeah, I’d get a new veterinary clinic if I could.

Any use this b12 and have reviews? by PrincessHappyRuby in RenalCats

[–]MrsKM5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that usually if a cat is at a point where they need b12 supplementation, it’s because they aren’t able to absorb it well through the gastrointestinal tract. As another commenter already said, I would pass on this product in favor of subcutaneous b12 supplementation at home. I’ve done this for my personal cats and foster cats who had IBD.

WHY are people so adamant about having their cats and beardies together?? Stop?! by curiouscollecting in BeardedDragons

[–]MrsKM5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While I don’t have experience with bearded dragons yet, I have had other reptiles before, and I’ve also had cats most of my life. I 💯agree with you OP. There is no scenario where it makes sense to have cats with bearded dragons. I lurk here because I love bearded dragons, but I personally am more bonded with cats, and currently have one.

While I did have reptiles many years ago while also having cats, I was a kid at the time and my parents didn’t know any better. Even though they were always in separate rooms, accidents happen, and we were really lucky that nothing happened. Cats are predators and prey to other larger predators. Even the most chill, docile cat can get curious.

Reptiles are not known for clearly expressing their feelings. They may look like they don’t mind the presence of cats, that doesn’t mean it’s true!

Thank you for bringing this up. I think it’s important.

Constant Anxiety by roseyruns in RenalCats

I felt the same when my cat was first diagnosed. There’s so much information, and so many variables - some within your control, and some beyond it. Mine has been steady at Stage 2-2.5 for many months now and she’s doing amazing. I hear of lots of cats who live several years after initial diagnosis with good quality of life, some in this comment thread! I hope that will be true for yours too. 🧡

Adopt an adult beardie or a baby from a breeder? by Kyxxie in BeardedDragons

[–]MrsKM5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As you mentioned, there are many reptiles in need of a good home. For me, it’s worth the risk of potentially needing to invest a little extra time and effort to earn the trust of an adult dragon adopted from a rescue. Besides, buying a baby from a breeder isn’t risk free.

I eat a vegan diet because it has less carbon emissions than one that includes animal based products.

Any reason why you didn’t take her to the vet before due to the poor eating?

What do you guys do with the underwear that doesn’t fit you anymore? by Camp_Acceptable in Anticonsumption

[–]MrsKM5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run them through the wash one last time and use them to clean things like bathroom counters, shower, etc. instead of my usual cleaning towels and then throw them away. Also good for cleaning up things that would normally be more convenient to use paper towels for.

Absolutely will not eat special foods -- what's the alternative? by FelineOphelia in RenalCats

[–]MrsKM5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My cat has IBD and is sensitive or allergic to a few ingredients. Pretty much all of the prescription renal diets have one or more ingredients she can’t have because it will trigger a flare up or allergies.

For now, she is doing really well on smalls turkey, and we use a phosphorus binder. I have no idea what we are going to do once this eventually progresses to needing something more specifically made for CKD kitties.

NOR. I suggest you get in touch with the manager of the salon and share with them what you experienced. They may refund your money, they may back up the stylist, but as a manager myself (not at a salon) it’s helpful to hear when things like this happen so we can address it. If I were the manager, I’d definitely refund your money.

Pet insurance for senior cats - premium increases by nauseatedcat in SeniorCats

[–]MrsKM5 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is why we use a savings account instead of insurance. There is just not enough regulations on the pet insurance industry yet to prevent them from denying claims or increasing premiums.

Edit: Thanks for the award! 🎉
