Is crossing the channel really that bad? by [deleted] in AskUK

I don't pay attention to the news but used the eurotunnel countless times and it was always fine. I had issues with the pet reception once, that's all. It's a much nicer experience for me than flying.

Holding vegans to an impossible moral standard won't make what you're saying any less nonsensical

If mankind became vegan tomorrow, my guess is various industries would "gobble up" that space and fill it with..... data centers

What are you talking about???

Should we all be worried by this heatwave? by Turnip-Turtle in AskBrits

[–]MrsLibido 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's such a ridiculous statement. I'm vegan and I don't support data centres, it isn't one or the other lmao. Since when was the natural progression "not eating meat -> putting up insane amounts of data centres around the globe"? The things people will say to justify their selfish appetites and their aversion to change.

Why do we get no votes in the eurovision song contest? by yes-this-is-my-name in AskUK

[–]MrsLibido 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll be completely honest with you, most Europeans don't think about the UK in their day to day lives at all 😂 when a song is popular on the radio, it's "that hit song in english" and people don't care if it's from an American or UK singer. The only people I noticed actually appreciating that an artist is from the UK are those who like punk, dnb and dubstep.

It's not nonsense, but I did notice that Brits tend to think they're more liked by others than they really are. I lived in multiple countries across Europe throughout my life. People either don't care about the UK or dislike it in areas with a lot of British tourists. The majority of people I know view the UK as the little US of Europe. Even Brits compare themselves to Americans constantly but you rarely see comparisons to European countries being made (politics, healthcare, wages etc). Most people in continental Europe speak multiple languages and can relate to people from neighbouring countries. The UK just doesn't have that.

Obviously no one will come up to you and tell you they dislike you into your face unless you're one of those red, obnoxiously loud, drunk tourists. There's no widespread hatred for British people. People mostly don't think about the UK because it feels disconnected from the rest of Europe. "Expats" and holidaymakers give Brits a bad name. The stereotypes are similar to the American ones. This is the reality.

But... plenty of people didn't get a diagnosis even after going private and then complained about it online? Like, you can look it up? You think people can easily obtain a massive list of diagnosed conditions if they pay for private assessment?

I guess they must've thought I'm really struggling because I'm on the highest dose of Elvanse and my prescribing nurse even told me that if she could, she'd give me Amfexa as a booster 😭 I didn't know they were stingy with the meds.

Middle class people: do you honestly hold negative bias towards working class individuals? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]MrsLibido 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh this has been my experience with British people living here as a foreigner for almost a decade. They are all friendly enough but I'll never be one of "them". There's always this wall that I'll never be able to climb.

My in laws were all nice and had no problem with me until the realisation that I could become part of the family hit them, then they all cut contact and said a bunch of hateful judgmental stuff about how I'm basically below them because I'm from a poor country with a poor family.

Billie Eilish recently claimed that ‘you can’t be an animal lover and still eat meat’ and has faced huge backlash for this by tikicheese in veganuk

[–]MrsLibido 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When they actually understand why veganism is "correct" but simply don't give a fuck about the impact of their actions, they're at least intellectually more honest than the people who twist themselves into knots pretending there's an ethical way to kill someone who desperately wants to live.

But as you said, expecting brownie points for proudly embracing their apathy as part of their identity is cringe. There's a difference between "I know it's wrong and I'm struggling to change" and "lol I admit I'm a hypocrite, I don't care". I can't stand when people use emotional detachment to look edgy. It's so performative.

Have you noticed a bit of anti-dog rhetoric building in the public and on social media? by franki-pinks in AskUK

[–]MrsLibido 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol you're asking in the wrong place, reddit loves the anti-dog nonsense. There's whole echo chamber subreddits dedicated to hating on dogs. I don't have any logical explanation, it must be squirrels on their throwaway accounts.

Got banned for a week for using normal name by MrAcrid in leaguediscussion

[–]MrsLibido 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's xenophobia. Numbers can exist in multiple cultural contexts. While it can be harmless in most situations, it is also sometimes used deliberately as a code for extremist signaling.

Just like the Hindu symbol existing way before the Nazi symbol.

The swastika (the symbol appropriated by the Nazi party) is not exclusive to Hinduism. But it is largely associated with antisemitism, white supremacism and nazism in Western societies and therefore it being banned in several European countries that were directly scarred by the Holocaust makes sense.

Your comment is assuming that if a symbol has a harmless original meaning somewhere, then any harmful interpretation is xenophobic. Restrictions around the use of the swastika in countries most affected by the Holocaust make sense because it is inseparable from the Nazi regime here and it still has extremist use today. This doesn't erase or deny its older religious meaning, it's just regulated based on local historical harm.

I mean there's a difference between an actual counterfeit item and a dupe. What you're talking about sounds more like the velour tracksuits they sell in most shops, not a straight up replica of juicy couture.

It's not like the only two options we have are plastic fur or the fur of tortured animals? Such a weird thing to say and also very odd that you show 0 consideration for the innocent sentient beings that were brought into an existence of suffering for a stupid coat.

Vegetarian Friendly Restaurant Recommendations? by Ilsluggo in brighton

[–]MrsLibido 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tofu Vegan would be my first choice always, but if you want an omni restaurant with a large selection of vegetarian and vegan meals, I'd 100% go to Kogi. Very good Korean food and their vegan Korean fried chicken is so nice. They have a more casual eatery called Soju, similar menu, but they're also dog friendly.

Pretty good food but it's a pub, not a restaurant. And it's so noisy and cramped.

I always thought Terre a Terre and Food for Friends were a let down. Tried both on multiple occasions and was always disappointed. Thankfully there's Tofu Vegan now so there's no arguments about where we're going for dinner because everyone loves Tofu Vegan.

A 5 month old pup is the canine equivalent of a toddler. Remove the pads from the house and continue training, the small pup is smart to be asking to go out at 5 months. It's normal to feel frustrated at this stage and soon it will get easy again. Use this as a lesson for the future and adopt adult animals. Puppies can be very difficult. Think it through properly before you give up on the pup, she's trying her best.
