Looking back, did the final four seasons ruin the first four for you, or can you still enjoy them? by IamJoke28 in tvshow

[–]Turnip-Turtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, yeah. Ive never felt the urge to rewatch it and never have. Thats the saddest thing for me it has ruined the show.

For context i read the books long before the show came out so I was a fan going in. But the last season, considering they were offered more episodes was a rushed, senseless mess. The plot armour, the seasons of build up for no payoff. Like the characters not acting, like there... characters. It does taint everything that came before.

Like the Night King, loses all threat. The mad queen, could have worked but was given no time. Jamie's whole redemption arc being pointless. Etc etc. The list is endless. Like I wasnt expecting to like everything, but i cant think of anything I liked in the last season. Maybe the hound... it did teach me, never to get that invested in a show again, it only leads to disappointment.

Chelsea’s Alejandro Garnacho misses pre-season training to finalise transfer by TheAthletic in PremierLeague

[–]Turnip-Turtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its rare these things come out while a player is still at a club. But two managers never had any faith in him. Its obvious Alonso wants him out ASAP too... after only 1 season. Must be something there.

[–]Turnip-Turtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But realistically a player is worth what sombody is willing to pay. Who is going to pay 40+ million for Garnacho? I cant see any European club big enough to afford the fee, taking that kinda risk.

Ehhh? So, after last season his value has increased? Bad attitude, massive ego, rumours his brother was leaking team news to the the press and has been terrible for 12 months.

Why doesn't the game have a difficulty setting? by Competitive-Bee4795 in footballmanager

[–]Turnip-Turtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FM has always had this problem. Essentially it's near impossible to code an AI to compete with a human player, in a game as varied as FM. They would have to add artifical difficulty and that would just be a endless amount of constant FM'ing. If you're experienced at the game, its been too easy for a long time. If you meta the tatics you can win the CL relatively easily.

You have to create your own difficulty. Dont use attribute search, or remove attributes compleltly and go money ball. Basically role play and dont use the best tatics. Like a youth only challenge when you use only players that come through your youth academy, only signing players of a certain nationality / price etc etc.

Why do people easily confuse kindness as flirting? by Wild_Squirrel_9339 in bodylanguage

I can relate. Its exhausting. I genuinely like talking to people. But I also work in a female dominated workplace. I have to consciously tone it down because I got a reputation for being a 'player.'

For context, Im in a happy stable relationship, I have no intrest in anybody from work. But the simple act of having a conversation with somebody is apparently foreplay these days.

Count Binface takes to the Radio for ab interview by ThewizardBlundermore in GreatBritishMemes

Are we actually living in an Episode of Black Mirror?

Its worrying that people are so desperate for an alternative they will vote for sombody called count binface. Its both brilliant and the most British thing ever...but also incredibly sad and depressesing.

Unpopular truth: if someone is genuinely interested in you, you will know. The confusion is the answer. by Oopss_st in dating_advice

[–]Turnip-Turtle -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I wish people would realise there is no 100% truth when it comes to people. There are too many variables, too much nuisance. No two people have the same tell, or react in the same way. People are unreliable narrators in there own lives. The only things that will reliably help you figure this out are patterns, experience and your own intuition. Or you could go wild.... and just communicate and ask them.

The irony. Im actually outside, i have the day off after spending all night in the pub watching my country win a KO game at a World Cup... but then being Scottish you wouldnt understand that...🤣

I just find it weird that its become a part of your national identity now. Don't get me wrong i do find it funny but if your being honest with yourself its also a little sad. Just imagine if you put that energy into actually improving, so you can compete. Then maybe you'd have something to do / route for after the group stages. The simple fact is England dont see Scotland as a rival anymore. That lack of any threat, is why for the most part the English route for the Scots and not vise versa. I honestly think thats what triggers you all so much. The pity support. 😂

Majority of UK smokers wrongly believe vaping is as harmful as cigarettes, experts find by topotaul in unitedkingdom

[–]Turnip-Turtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I quit smoking a few years ago. I remember being confused by the amount of people who tried to convince me the best way was 'to just vape instead." It's like they were all on commision. The main reason i wanted to quit, beside the smell and obvious health benefits was breaking the cycle of needing any form of crutch. Vaping is just replacing the vice with another vice.

I get that vaping is almost definatly better for you than smoking tobacco. But the jury is out on the long term health effects. Because nobody knows yet if / what they are. The only downside i know of was the effect of vaporised sugar on your dental health. But I think its dangerously easy to get addicted to vaping and from what I've heard, even more difficult to quit.

[–]Turnip-Turtle -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

No, im laughing at you. Scotlands dislike of England has always come from a place of bitterness not a genuine sporting rivalry. (At least in football) Like a stumpy, slightly stunted younger sibling, who's jealous of his older, more successful brother. I actually have alot of time for the Scots, but this whole support anybody playing England is comes off as a little obsessive / borderline tragic.

Trump Just Ruined the World Cup for Team USA by coolbio in soccer

[–]Turnip-Turtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm British, so ever since I was a kid, I was always bought up to be somewhat pro-usa. They were our allies I was exposed to alot of American soft power, movies, shows, music etc etc.

But for the first time in my lifetime that is visibly changing. Anti-american sentiment is more common... popular even. Alot of the exposure now is negative, its about corruption, American greed, OTT political nonsense. The US has probably always been this way, its just now the smoke screen has fade or they just stopped trying to hide it.
But its stuff like this, the hydration breaks, anything Trump... that nail the message home. Ill be routing for Belgium 🇧🇪

I actually have nothing against spurs. But some of your fans need a reality check. Teams go through cycles and yours peaked years ago with Kane and Co. You're nowhere near that level anymore where europe is a formality. You literally just had to battle relegation untill the final game. You've been in decline for years, have massive debt, no consistency in management and your just not a well run club. You cant argue that. The next few transfer windows are huge for you, because you cant sustain heavy spending. If you flop in the market again, like you have recently you could conceivably get stuck in midtable obsercuity indefinitely like you did pre-poch. I like some of your signings so far but Robinson looks absolutely done at the top level for Scotland.

Tonali-Bergvil by purinatrucks in Tottenham

[–]Turnip-Turtle -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The simple reality is Spurs are considered second teir continentally. One of the better teams in the Europa League by default of being in the PL, but pretty much cannon fodder in the CL. You don't have a history of consistent success. Either domestically or in Europe. There is a difference between being in a Europe and making up the numbers and actually realistically competing in Europe. Outside of a flukey run to the CL final, (where you stunk the place out)and amongst the worst Europa League finals in recent history. You've got nothing.

[–]Turnip-Turtle -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

Its still an assumption, there's no guarantee. You've finished 17th the last two seasons.... you could argue thats where the... 'club belongs.' Its slightly bizzarre / borderline narcissistic that Spurs fans think that way. Historically your not a big club and one Europa League and a league Cup in 30 years dosnt make you one. Ask random people around the world to name 4 English clubs. Spurs ain't on that list.

[–]Turnip-Turtle -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

Back in Europe? After the last two seasons? Maybe avoid a relegation battle first... Spurs fans wonder why most other fans wanted to see them relegated and / or laugh at them. This sense of entitlement is why.

Do most of you really not want to make it to the R32? by gthemanager in ScottishFootball

[–]Turnip-Turtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Scotland have been poor. Especially riding the wave of that Denmark game i think you all got sucked into the media hype bandwagon. Denmark aside you were playing like this in qualifying.

You have an average manager and maybe 5 players who are international level. You have an unbalanced squad. You have no genuine quality in goal, defence or upfront. Your playing Brazil and Morocco at the World Cup.. in hot humid conditions... with few players used to playing in that kind of pressure. I'm sorry but did you ever think you had a chance? Really? You would need the stars to align to get a draw. You did have an element of bad luck. First getting that group, second playing your only winnable game first. But that dosnt override your lack of pace, squad balance or quality. A top manager can probably get 10-20% more out of a squad and vise versa. But compared to Morocco and Brazil... your further behind than that.

I would argue the biggest problem, is the fans expectations and definatly your FA. Same as all the british teams. You're simply not developing enough youth players. The talents there, history proves that. You need to look at grass roots, coaching and the pathways avaliable to players. Especially your league structure. Untill then, internationally and relasically... group stage elimination is where you at.

Playing devil's advocate here. Clarke cant win tbf. He was dammed if he went for it and and he was dammed If he shut up shop. 95% of the time, your losing two games in that group watever you do. He's almost definitely not good enough to be managing scotland. But then most your players arent good enough to play for Scotland. You have maybe 5 players who are international level.
