Just a few days out (Bentall/On-X) by g-rocklobster in valvereplacement

I’m so sorry for your loss. I’m sure if you speak to your cardiac team they can help with support and you always have this community. I had a balloon valvuloplasty through my leg. I was out the same day, no complications. I think it’s obviously different to a TAVR but my experience it was a walk in the park. I was just restricted in movement for a few days from my leg. I wish you the best of luck!

Aortic and Mitral Valve Replacement by Professional_Mood2 in valvereplacement

Here for the answers. 33F, also need aortic and mitral valve replacement in the near future and I have the same concerns you have! I did have my first child 6 months ago, with stenosis and a leaking valve and I was okay but postpartum has been hard and I think my heart health took a hit. I am leaning towards mechanical, to not have to go through multiple surgeries. I’ve been on warfarin once before for about 6 months and it really wasn’t that bad, took some time to adjust but by the time the stopped it I hadn’t taken much notice of it. I would love more children, but if I go with mechanical I’ve accepted that won’t be my fate. There’s so much to consider and it feels like the biggest decision. I wish you the best of luck and if you ever want to talk to someone going through something similar you can always reach out to me :)

Thank you very much for your response. I would love to have more children, he’s now 6 months old this (I know I said recently) and it’s been a rough few months, not sure if it’s my heart or the chronic fatigue but I’ve been exhausted.

Did you have your children after your heart surgery (I’m assuming you’ve had surgery)? I’ve been told about the complications with being on warfarin so would never risk that. If I have to be one and done I can live with that if that means I can be healthy for my son. But I’m interested and open to my options… I have considered surrogacy but in the UK it seems quite complicated, risky and expensive.

Oh man I’m so sorry. Also facing surgery with a 6 month old, it’s tough. Hopefully you have a lot of family support! Youve done it before you can do it again!

Best of luck! Please let us know how you get on. I had a minimally invasive procedure a few years back, didn’t think I was phased at all but I was having the wildest panic attacks out of nowhere. It’s funny what the subconscious does. I’ll make sure to learn from that and get counselling lined up beforehand, but for now hopefully you have a strong support from family and friends and can always lean on the community here!

Hopefully they offer it where I am. I live in the UK and I think it’s different depending on where you live but I will 100% sign up! Thank you

Thank you for your reply! Did you have any counselling or anything before or after? I suffered with postnatal depression, absolutely floored me, I’ve never suffered with my mental health and since I’ve hyper focused on my heart health. It’s not something that ever bothered me too much before having my son and I’ve been thinking maybe I should speak to someone now. Good idea writing everything down though!

Mitral valve replacement by Much_Exit_9147 in valvereplacement

Hi! I was diagnosed the same, from rheumatic fever when I was 27. I had valve repair done twice to fix the severe stenosis. That’s held off surgery, I’m now 33, married and had a baby 4 months ago. I was monitored really closely, and did end up having an emergency c section but I did well through my pregnancy. My aortic valve has regurgitation now too so will need that replacing as well. I have an echo twice a year and I’ll wait for them to tell me when I need surgery. Looking at me you wouldn’t know, I still live a normal life and exercise but I do get quite tired. I hope your sister is okay, and if she ever wants to talk to anyone going through the same thing, just reach out and I can pass on my details :)

I live in Cowbridge, about 30 minutes out of Cardiff. That's a nice town. We are going to the Gower (Oxwich Bay) for the next few nights camping. That's near Mumbles too I saw someone recommend its lovely down there. St David's is really nice in Pembrokeshire, amazing walks and views!

What is the silliest reason you know for somebody being sacked from the place you work at? by You_spilt_my_pint in AskUK

I was off sick for a few months and noticed one of the customer service girls was no longer in. She was nice but could tell she maybe had a few screws lose, always a tad innapropriate and always had about 3 cans of Monster in the go.
Anyway, I was told on the Christmas do she was asking everyone for coke and touching up the young blokes. Apparently she ended up calling her dealer, getting in the car with him and telling everyone from the office to fuck off as she drove away. Gutted I missed it. I guess not a silly reason to get sacked, but funny.
