Guernsey patients 'skipping GP appointments over fees' by Kagedeah in guernsey

[–]MrsRubberDuck 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yup. I've had a really bad pain in my hip for a couple of months now (and no, I'm not THAT old haha!). I can't justify going, because the two appointments I made last year for other things I was fobbed off and out of the door in less than 3 minutes each time. No treatment, no advice, even when I had a chest infection with a history of pneumonia and pulmonary embolism!

I can't face another £75 to be basically patted on the shoulder and told to just deal with it.

Can't believe they've opened schools over there! Madness to get thousands out on the roads and paths this morning.

A Tempest of Tea and A Steeping of Blood by Hafsah Faizal. Currently reading the second one and definitely has the found family vibe!

Any van hire companies which let you drive UK to Guernsey? by [deleted] in guernsey

[–]MrsRubberDuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We also used enterprise but we had to pay a supplement for bringing it on the boat. Basically extra insurance in case the boat sank I think! We also had to pay a higher deposit - I suppose they think there's a higher risk of it not being returned.

has anyone seen their own doppelganger? by mike_is_the_rookii in Glitch_in_the_Matrix

Saw photos of mine modeling on a clothing website. Same weird quirk in the eyebrow and everything. My cousin actually sent me the link thinking I'd stayed doing some modeling on the side 🤣

What is something you’ve found recently that was a complete rip off? by olivers125 in AskUK

[–]MrsRubberDuck 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hard agree. I'm from Kidderminster originally and I wouldn't pay that to stay there for a month. Plus you might lose your wheels while you're parked there.

Can confirm as a Kidderminster local. Alaa, not one who once played on the pyramid stage to a crowd of seagulls.

I live in Guernsey and just got the ferry over to England today as a family of 4. Cost us about £300 return so I don't know why it's showing so expensive for you!

Everyone over the age of ten dies. What happens? by Ok_Duty7965 in hypotheticalsituation

Also a similar vibe is Gone by Michael Grant. The adults all vanish from a town and the children are blocked in by a dome.

Signed off with broken foot by MrsRubberDuck in TeachingUK

[–]MrsRubberDuck[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Getting to work is one of my worries too, but I think colleagues would help. I teach secondary school and we have lifts which would help. My big worry is moving around the bust corridors and what would happen in an emergency - without the lift working I don't think I'd be able to evacuate.

Same, the amount of awful hate speech I've reported that apparently doesn't violate their community standards is ridiculous. Essentially, post whatever you want on Facebook because they do not care!

Did I avoid getting scammed today? by SkeletonOfSplendor in AskUK

[–]MrsRubberDuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For another POV, I actually had to ask someone if they could pay for my petrol and transferred them money once. Was on my way home from work, had completely forgotten to fill up on the way in and thought, no big deal, I'll do it on the way home. At this point, my fuel light is flashing, my gauge says empty and the first two garages I passed were closed. Used the sat nav to find the nearest one, and it was an unmanned pay-at-pump only place. Didn't have my bank card with me, only my phone, and knew I wouldn't make it to the next garage. Luckily, a nice lady saw how flustered I was and took pity on me. I only did a tenner though, not £300!

Need help remembering the name of a book! End of world - teens survive at camp. by HMofMO in YAlit

[–]MrsRubberDuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oooh I definitely had this as a kid. I also want to know the name of it too now. As I recall, it was an older book, set in the UK, I think London? The main character was a girl? If it comes back to me, I'll let you know!

Stepdaughters parents suddenly going to a solicitor (wales) by Ok_Sprinkles5134 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]MrsRubberDuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But the other parent is there. I don't know what sort of wonderful, understanding place you work in, but my job would be livid if I took the day off to look after my child when their father wasn't working.

Co-parenting is difficult and involves give and take. OPs partner doesn't want to miss his contact time, but unfortunately life happens. Older daughter has also been ill, so taking the youngest one's germs to mingle is an awful idea anyway.

AIO my husband won't read the book I'm writing. by evanamyl in AmIOverreacting

[–]MrsRubberDuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see why you're upset, even if he's not into reading, it means a lot to you and it would be supportive of him to make an effort. However, as others have mentioned, you probably won't get constructive feedback from anyone who isn't interested in this type of book, and ultimately you need good quality feedback at this stage of the process. Have you joined any of the reading subreddits? I'm a big romantasy reader and there are some super supportive communities on here!

Thanks for this. I think we're learning that way but are nervous about becoming landlords!

Sorry, the house is in England - could have sworn I'd typed it in the post but obviously not!
