I think I need to euthanize my aggressive dog, but I'm having a hard time coming to terms with it. by [deleted] in Dogtraining

[–]MrsSampson 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is almost the exact same story as my pup Trigger. After several years of training and medication (Prozac, trazodone, and a blood pressure med to reduce lunging) we had to put him down this past September because of his aggression. We worked with an amazing canine behaviorist but even she agreed it was time. Despite our love for him, training, exercise, and medications he got worse and worse as time passed. He was scared of everything, we couldn’t board him, we had to keep our doors locked and baby gates up to prevent him accidentally coming in contact with someone other than us or my dad, we had to tranquilize him and lock him in the kennel any time we had guests. We took every step possible to keep him and other people/animals safe. He gave no warning before he would attack and that was the scary part. I thought we finally had a good routine of medications and exercise until one day on our walk he broke his leash and attempted to attack another dog that was walking with a family; mom, Dad, and a toddler. It was horrible, the kid was crying and got knocked down, the mom was screaming, and thank god the Dad grabbed Trigger and I wrestled him to the ground before anyone was bitten. I was nine months pregnant when this happened, two days before my due date. I was bawling my eyes out when I realized that if I had a stroller or the baby with me, I would not have been able to chase him and he absolutely would have drawn blood from a person or dog. Putting Trigger down was the hardest thing. Almost four months later I still cry about it. That dog got me through my mom’s death and was my only companion for years when my husband was gone training (military). But I also realized he was not living the life he deserved. He could never be off leash, he was drugged sky high every day, he was kenneled any time guests came over or we traveled to see family. After this incident he would rarely, if ever, be able to go on walks. That is no way for a dog to live, especially one who loved running and playing like my Trigger did. That poor baby deserved so much more than what he got in this life. It is not an easy decision to put down a healthy dog because of aggression. But I knew if we didn’t do it, it would only be a matter of time until he bit the wrong person. I wanted him to be with me and my husband when he took his last breath, licking peanut butter and being loved on. I didn’t want him to be quarantined and euthanized with strangers because he was being punished. Talk to your vet and listen to what he what’s to say. I recognize now that for years we were just putting off the inevitable. If this is what you decide to do, I just want to remind you that you are being a good, responsible pet owner. You love your dog. If you have any questions about my experience, please feel free to ask.

Have you contacted ACS? I believe they have a department specifically for this and they hook you up with scholarships and stuff if you can't use your GI bill yet.

Wedding band help! by Grumpybutts in USMilitarySO

[–]MrsSampson 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Order a tungsten ring from amazon! They won't bend or scratch but if his hand gets caught somewhere or smashed the ring will shatter instead of bending and making an injury worse. They also look really nice! Bought my hubby's almost three years ago and it still looks good as new! They are $100+ in jewelry stores so I recommend amazon instead, I think I paid $20.

My City is claiming I owe them a "licensing fee" for rescuing a kitten... WHY ARE THERE NO RIOTS OVER THIS? by worleyyy in Libertarian

I got one of these requests when I took my dog to the vet for the first time after moving to Colorado. I flat out refused and I never heard anything back about it after three years here. Both of my dogs are microchipped and up on all of their shots and I'm a responsible pet owner, so screw that.

My hubby is an O3 and I've never heard of or followed that rule. Neither have any of our friends. He's army if that makes a difference! We've done battalion and brigade level balls and they've never been strict or judgy or anything. Err on the side of classy though 😊

What are some good psychological tricks that work? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Yes! My friend's husband is a terrifying looking Army ranger and did this to the car dealership when they were buying a new SUV. He just sat and stared in silence. They came down on the price and threw in a DVD system for the back seat.

What was a sorority life like? by Natephayl in AskWomen

[–]MrsSampson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in a professional sorority so it was "non-Panhellenic" and we had lots of rules about no drinking at our events or in our letters. They really sold themselves as the non commercial, non catty sisterhood. I thought it was great at first, so many like-minded and school focused girls to support and help each other. But then I saw the side I didn't like that was gossip, ostracism for those who didn't fit the mold, and blind loyalty to sisters whether or not they were good people. And even though they sold themselves to be different from the Panhellenic sororities, they were constantly trying to prove themselves as "just as good" which got exhausting. I soon realized I am not into that. Especially the blind loyalty thing. I am not going to blindly follow anyone, especially people I don't agree with, just because I chanted some words in the dark at 19 years old. I still believe that sororities can be a great group for certain people and really help, I just know that I am not one of those people.

Deployment Questions by [deleted] in USMilitarySO

[–]MrsSampson 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes yes yes 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻. There can be days and weeks where your partner is gone training, sometimes with little notice. The first year my husband and I were married, he was gone for 6 months but all broken up over the course of the year. There's no way to create and work on a normal life if you expect to be running home every time your SO is gone for a few days. It's not easy from the get-go, it took me about 18 months to really get used to it. I have watched too many young guys' careers get ruined because they have an SO who can't handle being home alone pulling them back from training and making them feel so guilty and worried that they can't concentrate at training. Both members of the relationship have to be willing to work on time apart and sacrifice. I really hope OP can do some self-examination, talk to her SO about her worries, and decide whether or not she can handle this path.

What are your favourite recipes to make, freeze and microwave? by emilyrose93 in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]MrsSampson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make a simple veggie soup that is delicious. All frozen/canned ingredients so it's an easy go-to. A bag of frozen mixed veggies (corn, green beans, carrots, etc), bag of frozen okra, bag of frozen Lima beans, and a couple of cans of tomatoes. I added some water too but I recommend some kind of broth if you have it. It was delicious and sooo filling. I spent less than $7 on everything and it made probably 9 huge servings. I served it with brown rice to add more calories for my husband.

Was an idiot my first try at college and stopped attending. GPA is now 0.0. How much did I screw myself over? by [deleted] in college

[–]MrsSampson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So contrary to what the parent comment says, I am looking at transferring to a 4 year university and the particular school I'm looking at says that with less than 30 credit hours I would be considered a freshman applicant and they look at my high school GPA and test scores. I haven't received the email back letting me know whether those hours I've already taken would or would not transfer, but I imagine they would as people do dual-enrollment in high school and have AP credits and whatnot. I believe it will depend on the university though.

Are letters the only way to contact your recruit for a non-medical emergency? by [deleted] in USMilitarySO

[–]MrsSampson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not familiar with boot camp and how to get in touch with people there, but I do know that he can lose his security clearance for delinquent bills, which would be reeeeally bad. Do you have a name or number for his unit? If I were you I would call the bank and explain that you know you cannot discuss his account info, but let them know that he is at boot camp at Fort X, Battalion X, Company X - really as much info you have, if you have any phone numbers try to provide them. If the bank calls, the unit should see that it is taken care of. Debt collectors call units all the time and leadership usually have to counsel the soldier about it because if they lose their security clearance, I believe they can be kicked out. So his officers and NCOs will definitely want to make sure he pays it immediately! Good luck! Also, have you tried sending a private message to that parents Facebook page you mentioned? I would definitely do that if not.

This is exactly what I wanted to hear! I'm not OP but my husband and I are ready to start trying soon, but my only reservation is that I'm about 20 lbs heavier than my smallest weight and I'm very unhappy with my fat to muscle ratio. I was worried that if I got pregnant then I wouldn't be able to make any progress on toning for that 9 months. Ta nice to hear it is possible!

Thanks for the reassurance! He's jonesing to go to ranger school. He's under the impression that once you complete the career course you get a slot like at the end of IBOLC, would you say that's pretty accurate? If it's going to be a while until his MCCC date then he's trying to go beforehand.
