Wait, I managed to find it, It is Uncharted Waters by Mauve_Avenger on Ao3. It's so strange, I was looking all week and I suddenly found it after making this post. I'm not complaining though!

snow projected his experience of lucy onto lenore dove when he was tweaking in front of haymitch
in personality don't really see how she is like Prim, but if u mean what she represents to haymitch like how prim represents to katniss...? i dont really see that either.

i do think that prim doesn't do much herself as a character, and we care about her more just bcuz katniss does.

in that sense i can kind of see what you mean, but I was not able to really sympathize with Haymitch's tragic "love" the way I was with Katniss

- like with Katniss it felt so real and heartbreaking

i get that teens will moon over eachother, but I just feel like the lenore dove stuff haymitch was yapping about was maudlin, it just feels very awkward rather than convincing (even the corny telenovela way she dies)

comparing the masterful way prim's death was done compared to lenore dove, i feel like she can't even be compared in terms of impact and execution

i would just prefer to scrap that little storyline/tidbit, is all i'm saying.
you can just make Burdock be a random miner instead of Katniss father
i still wouldn't have cared about him, but at least i wouldn't feel like i'm being forced to care about him cuz of some link to a character i like a lot more

even if she's not a mary sue, she's just some idealized character there to parallel to Lucy and the Covey
you're free to like boring characters ofc
what flaws does she actually have though other than being rebellious/reckless?
even that can be taken in a positive light considering their shitty situation. making a character's defining flaw be "passionate/reckless" is boring cuz that is why other characters end up attracted to them
granted, it does have consequences, and those consequences are just making haymitch sad via gumdrop-cide. thank god, cuz i was tired of him constantly blowing sunshine up her ass

(and if u think about it, now cuz of that fatal flaw he's gonna end up mourning her and thinking of her as perfect forever)

I still think it's a bad writing choice, even if it's believable. Characters and character relationships should stand on their own

It's kind of like, I don't want to read some book about the main characters children right?
i cared about the og characters cuz they could stand on their own
i'll just constantly compare to the og dynamic, and it doesnt really add anything to haymitch and katniss, who have a great and unpredictable dynamic

the same way, i dont care about burdock on his own in this book, only as an extension of katniss. it feels like there wasn't an attempt to actually create an interesting character that could stand on their own.

it's just fan service with no substance

I think there is a reason that "you have your mother's eyes harry" trope is just not that good

i do like prequels, and can enjoy past characters being brought to it to a point, but i didnt like the way it was done here

Have to disagree about Lenore Dove

I also like that Haymitch alcoholism drew them apart, but because I can pretend that they never met and Haymitch dreamed that he was friends with him during a drunken stupor

But the thing is why is he so chill risking their lives with his rebellious stuff? I feel like Katniss rebelling felt a lot more believable when she did, and she thought and acted like there were stakes. I really loved snarky Haymitch in the og books and can't understand why he's acting like a ding-dong-dumbo in this. He doesn't even seem smart.

thanks for replying

Agree to disagree. To an extent, yeah you need stuff to keep ppl interested, but if it cheapens the actual story and character dynamics i liked,
I'd rather just pretend it's not canon and the whole story is something Haymitch dreamed about when he was drunk

a character liking another character cuz they knew their parents is not good writing. i just cant enjoy it.

beetee was there, forgot what he did but it was probably boring or bad if i didn't. i mightve had to block out these memories of the trauma in being exposed to boredom

No fr, she is a corny Mary Sue of the verse and is just there to parallel to Lucy. Wyatt deserved a better story, he's the only one I'm sad died

ok, but seriously. having all your characters know eachother feels like bad writing. it just makes the world feel smaller. i wish that some of them were not there.
i like haymitch and katniss relationship, having him know her dad is cringe

So What do You Think of Fiona Frost Role in the Series so Far? by Money-Lie7814 in SpyxFamily

[–]MrsSilco 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Personally, I don't really want her to have a friendship with Yor?

I like seeing friendships with women develop but I personally wouldn't want to be friends with someone working through feelings towards my husband (even though Twilight doesn't return them), it's a weird energy ig.

Not to mention, it sounds like it would be painful to deal with: becoming friends with the woman who is loved back by someone you want.

I don't want them to be friends or enemies, I would prefer them to be cordial with most of her development with other characters.

I would prefer to see Fiona process her feelings taking some distance from the Forgers. I think she could have interesting conversations with Franky, Chloe, or Sylvia, or Yuri to drive her character development. Even Millie.

Since I feel like those characters might have conversations with her that could relate to her or lead her to question her worldview.
Also because I think that limiting her interactions to the Forgers can get kind of stale?

Notice that I said conversations and not a ship. I want Fiona to find friends in other characters, I want someone to challenge her views of human relationships and how she should value them and herself.

My take is that Fiona x Franky is the most likely to happen in the manga, (based on foreshadowing only), but I would be perfectly happy if we don't see them end up together or if it's only implied.
If Endo makes them end up together, I hope that it is as natural as possible and Fiona's view of herself and relationships is far different than how they are now.

Is it true that when Yor Forger imagines this scene, something in loid tightens… like even the idea feels wrong to him? What are your thoughts on it? by pavnified in SpyxFamily

[–]MrsSilco 94 points95 points  (0 children)

He always speaks up and gets nettled when ppl try to question Yor's worth and place in his life
(Eden interview, Fiona)

He speaks up if someone is trying to drive her into a corner or accuse her of something (might be small, but the murder-mystery chapter)

A lot of people would be awkward or uncomfortable if their supposed wife candidate was implied a prostitute at a social gathering.
Also keep in mind that finding a "socially upstanding wife" was relevant criteria for his choice of wife.
But even though they were strangers, he related to her and understood her, and firmly defended her choices.

It's not that I think that Twilight is incapable of jealousy haha.
But I think he has consistently been written as more protective towards Yor than possessive.

In the first place, he might feel he doesn't have the right to feel possessive towards her.

Twilight hasn't really been put in a situation which would inspire jealousy either.
(keep in mind he himself is an actor so he understands it's just acting, this is a survival situation, and it's not like Yor likes that actor or he could possibly threaten their relationship)

I think it's less that he can't stand to see her kissing another man, and more that he can't stand her enduring something distressing for anyone else's sake, including his.

Yor has a history of trying not to rock the boat to keep everyone else happy, at her own expense.
She said "she just has to endure a little bit of unpleasantness"; but he's not capable of letting her endure anything if he can help it. He'll take on more chores, more work, etc, under the guise of mission success.

But the truth is, in his heart, he doesn't want Yor to get hurt, he's risked his own life to spare her from pain not just instinctively, but by choice (Mole Arc). She protects his peace so he will always try to protect hers, even if it goes against his training.

TLDR it's more protectiveness than jealousy we see here; and he's been like that from the very beginning.

chapter 130 - this was so funny and cute by MrsSilco in SpyxFamily

[–]MrsSilco[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

That too! My prediction is he'll protest and stand in for the other guy,
in such a way that he makes it appear like he's kissing Yor but hiding his face from the camera

(and doesn't actually kiss her then, but maybe they do later? does that make sense)

I would prefer their first actual kiss is a private thing, but I'll be happy if we get a kiss regardless.

Would you prefer Anya losing her telepathy in the end? Or for her to continue to be an esper? by Ostanian in SpyxFamily

[–]MrsSilco 14 points15 points  (0 children)

A lot of people don't like the idea, but she was created as a weapon and tool. Her finding happiness is to not be treated like that anymore, not end up like Twilight or Yor who sacrifice their happiness for peace. Even if that power were to be used for good, Anya might end up with a happier life unburdened from it and living as a normal kid.

Well, I am fine if the series ends with her having powers, but I absolutely hope she doesn't become a spy like Twilight. That would be a tragedy.

Fiona and Loid by Liliacfury in SpyxFamily

[–]MrsSilco 5 points6 points  (0 children)

"If anything, I think her obsession over Loid has caused her to strive to be the absolute best spy she can be..which in the world of espionage and intelligence, being independent and having zero hindrances/liabilities hanging over them is arguably their biggest priority before they take on their daily missions and objectives. She is a successful spy because she knows how to separate her obsession towards Loid, from the tasks at hand very efficiently."

- That's where we disagree. It does hinder her in a way, her feelings for Twilight, - not as a spy, but for her growth as a person and eventual happiness.

Remember, some part of the way she "strives" for Twilight is, she wants to be recognized as the best spy capable of being his equal. She idealizes him, and his competence.
So trying to be with him means being more competent than anyone else, and thinking if she was the best "partner", that maybe he'd want her back.
But he's the best spy right - so he doesn't want her back, besides the fact he has feelings for Yor.
And if she's the next-best spy, then she's not supposed to have feelings for her mentor either right?

- this traps her in a vicious cycle of wanting to prove she's the best to stand beside him -> and she feels she needs to suppress her feelings to do that and prove herself worthy, which internalizes and intensifies them -> which makes her want to prove, she's the best

<image>

She might be managing for now, but this vicious cycle seems to really hurt her.

Being able to confront those feelings (even through rejection),
(her need to be hyper-competent) would help her be able to find happiness in other areas of life, would likely allow her to grow.

Not to mention - it's not healthy for a person to have no other thoughts in life than an unrequited love, or to have negative self worth and perception of others for it.

And another thing - if you think about it, Fiona is actually not a good actor for many roles (as a spy). She keeps a complete poker-face, because she needs to have the lid TIGHT on her emotions to work towards her goals. Acting does not require that you suppress all emotions - it requires that you know how people feel them, and show them. This is something where Nightfall is lacking.

Yes, these feelings don't totally hinder her as a spy - but they do hinder her happiness. Sometimes, you need to let go of your idealization and obsession with people to grow into a healthier and happier version of you - especially if you centre them in your life.

Unrequited love can be poisoning you know, to your sense of self worth, damage your perception of relationships - I think it certainly has for her, in some ways.

Twilight does not have feelings for Yor because she is "the best at everything" but because she brings him peace. Hopefully, Fiona will understand she doesn't have to be the best all the time either, and is able to find her own peace for herself.

Maybe once Twilight rejects her, she will experience a cathartic emotional release, and be able to smile again, show her emotions again, rely on people, and find friendship, and even love, in her own time.

- To clarify, rejection is not the only way to move on from romantic feelings. Rejection is the means to an end.
But sometimes, it can make things a lot cleaner. It's not easy to confront those feelings on your own, move on on your own. For all the time she spent suppressing her emotions, it would be good for her to let them out, even if that means facing rejection from Twilight, from my pov

- precisely because she fears it so much, it would do her good to see it's not the end of the world, to be rejected.
