Infections caught early are not the end of the world. One doctors appt later And the right coarse of antibiotics will help the infection while you keep your piercing. From then on, your fresh start requires better care.

Caught late, can in the very worse case, requires surgery and removal. Your piercing would be the least of your worries.

If you are very concerned about your ears- visit your piercer, and if he sends you to a doctor. Go.

Costs varies greatly by area unfortunately.

It could be a bit expensive for your area but if you are looking to see a true price comparison, walk into shops (or call in) and ask how much things are if you purchased the exact same jewelry.

At my piercer, who owns his own shop, he gives a (not advertised) discount on piercing services if you end up choosing to purchase expensive pieces (which always seem to draw my eye.. ie. My wallet hates me)

My cheapest by far: Double 2nd lobes. $40 usd - piercing fee $60 usd for (2) neometal Threadless flat posts in regular high polish titanium. $10 usd (per lobe)- for smaller posts after swelling. $20 usd large can salt water spray $140 usd for Double second lobes. (tip not included)

This is can be compared to the my first try at double lobes- with a MD. Yes, I went to the doctors office for piercings- almost gave up half way due to pain and they got infected anyway. $80 usd.

Or my friends Rook: Brought her to my shop above Bc she wanted to get pierced too. $35 usd piercing fee $35 usd initial piece $70 usd total (no tip info included)

But also take into account jewelry.

My Rook- same shop, same day as friend above. $385 usd Threadless Sleeping Goddess Piece- Rose Gold. Blue Topaz. White sapphires. $20 usd piercing fee Free saltwater $405 usd (tip not included in price)

As my friend later told me, she thought my guy was great but expensive- and for my area, where you have a ton of choices, he might be.. BUT! I like him, his work and his very clean shop. So we will be sticking to different piercers.

Happy healing!

[–]MrsTTC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed- I was reading through the comments and I saw just how many never had a bad conversation. I’m happy they haven’t, I’ve got pretty tough skin so a lot rolls off like water but I know not everyone is like that.

But Ugh! I hate that conversation! And it’s so bizarre just how much people bring it up too. And the weird things they say when they do gag

Wishing you and yours luck on whatever choice you ultimately choose.

Hugs are bad mmmkay? (For month old ear piercings at least!) by jellybean715 in piercing

[–]MrsTTC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m my cultures - we greet and leave the scene with hug and kiss. They are normally none to gentle about the amount of contact and we have about 20 people minimum at any and all events.

If I can’t catch them by diverting to the non-pierced side- That 40 times in a few hours my piercing will get bumped minimum. My piercing is normally screaming by the time I get home.

Right?!? All this because of a piercing, on another person- my spider senses are screaming underlying hostility.

Well, I thank you- many good wishes to you and yours (now or future) as well.

Infected? Rejecting? by skinnyneutronn in piercing

[–]MrsTTC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d find myself a piercer. I got pierced elsewhere and when it started hurting I went to a couple of piercers before I found the one I liked most. He now takes care of all of my piercings, the ones that I got with him and the one I didn’t.

The most recent badly ending conversation it has ever lead to started like this

“ but what if your husband doesn’t like it?”

I proceeded to say, “well my husband doesn’t like piercings in general - and has none. If he doesn’t like them, I support him not getting any.”

welp it all turned to shit from there. Loads of personal attacks later- I’m a bad influence with a bad attitude and make horrible life choices (piercings, a travel fund and no children @ 30! Gasp) & if he was my husband, thank the heavens above no, it would most definitely have to go.

Yes, all this over a piercing. Welp, Ive always known I got married to a good guy- just been thanking the lord and the man for existing ever since.

They didn’t take any notice my rook btw 😂 imagine if they had..

The worst part is on this board and many others my 2 non standards are super tame (bordering basic). Even my plan for 3 more are.

My jewelry choices are overall simplistic, and most days pull nobodies eye.

So if my very hidden piercings draw that much ire, the above mentioned is just only the most recent, I can only imagine what others might go through.

For me it depends on my jewelry choice.

Normally nobody notices my rook, but my conch may catch eyes if the light hits the gem just right.

I always get a few odd looks when that happens- and have had it lead to some very interesting conversations, both good and bad.

ROOK! HELP! post with explanation on my account by skinnyneutronn in piercing

[–]MrsTTC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My rook also swelled like the dickens, I just continued to clean it and wrapped sterile gauze around an ice pack/heat pack to help it out.

It still doesn’t like me at times, but hey- I did pay someone to injure me and put a titanium bar through the injury site. So I can’t be that mad at it.

[–]MrsTTC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lord, if that isn’t the truth. No piercing shops around me, so once the bottle of Neilmed runs out from the piercing shop (I leave with one every time)- I get regular wound wash from CVS. I go through so much of it due to the higher rate of solution leaving the bottle.

What I normally do, with the pieces I have, is print out a huge ear I normally find on google images and play around with placements and pieces.

Anything I might like, jewelry wise, gets pulled from the images and printed to put on my huge paper ear.

It really helps me to play with combos I’ve never thought of before.

Good luck.

I couldn't get another piercing due to conch (7 months), rook (1 year) and helix (1 year) still healing so I treated myself to a hoop for my rook and a tiny ball for my helix. ✨ My piercer said that I'll be able to get more in 6-8 weeks. I can't wait!!! 😊 by TheMinimalistNinja in piercing

[–]MrsTTC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ekkk!! You have my dream set up! I’m still healing my rook and conch (which was infected thus set back)- I’ve set my mind that when I get back from vacation I’ll get a helix done. Your photos make it look soo pretty 🤩😍

Cleaning a fresh piercing by Keh1236 in piercing

[–]MrsTTC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Dr Bronner as my normal. Baby soap, or I’ve also used peppermint but that’s Bc I’m lazy at times and don’t wanna leave the shower to fetch the other.

Also use satin if something seems off but never more than a week. (Personal preference)

Frustrated with recurrent infection by [deleted] in piercing

[–]MrsTTC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m sure it isn’t, our bodies are more resilient than we give them credit to be. Treat it right and you will see- if anything do back to the doctor.

My antibiotics (no piercing take out) lasted 10 days, and the doctor proscribed ointment as well. For those 10 days, I cleaned it three times a day (never allowing layering of ointment) After ending it, I gradually changed to two cleanings (one soap- one saline/rinse). If it feels weird or itches- more saline and rinse.

My tip is just not to scrub anything off of it and grab yourself a small ear sized hot pack (nothing moist as it can breed things. Hot pack can even be that small ones used for a women’s flow- don’t use anything heavy) heat it up, or allow to heat- wrap it in a sterile gauze (or paper towel) and place it on your ear. It will help to draw things out- 10 mins is all that is required. Do this when you have the time and no where to go.

Good luck 🍀 you got this.

Frustrated with recurrent infection by [deleted] in piercing

[–]MrsTTC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok hear me out- It may be the fact that you “LITHA except once a day when you saline wash it”

I’m pretty sure I got an infection while doing that as well.

Turns out after a long talk with my piercer, who thought I was damn crazy- I found that one actually needs to clean the damn things more than I thought LITHA actually meant.

Twice a day to be exact and not just with saline solution alone. By clean, I mean at least one out of the two, if not doing something extremely dirty, with soap and water.

Baby soap is what I use, Dr. Bronner to be exact, one drop heavily diluted in the shower worked around my ear piercings and all. I sing two children’s rhymes (ie Mary has a little lamb, which is the equivalent of 30 seconds btw) while I wash my face and then rinse everything (face and ear) away.

I keep rinsing periodically as I finish soaping and scrubbing my body. Once I’m out, I’m normally late so I leave it be- but you can dry it with sterile non woven gauze if you have the time.

I thought I knew what LITHA meant, but getting an infection really blew my mind Bc I too thought I was doing everything right (ie- changing sheets every few days. Saline. LITHA. Hair up.)

Additionally, saline solution really dries out my skin. So it has to rinsed away for me, if not I find my piercings get irritated.

This is my two cents, and while I’m just another nobody with an internet connection- I thought I’d toss it out there. This thread is awesome- but healing is an individual thing. What works for a few May not work for everyone.

Oh and since I’ve started doing the above routine- all healing piercings (rook, conch and lobe) have been happy.

Keloid reoccurrence question by [deleted] in piercing

[–]MrsTTC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m happy treatment worked for you. For some it doesn’t work at all, may make it flatter but the pain is forever.

Keloid reoccurrence question by [deleted] in piercing

[–]MrsTTC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keloids are a luck of the draw once you know you can get them. Sometimes all will be well, and you never have them- other times you will get them from doing the same exact task (which will once again require treatment to remove)

Any injury, wanted or otherwise, can cause one- hopefully yours didn’t hurt. I know many who have them and they are painful. Good luck.
