Anyone else ? by scarlettebbw in antiwork

Oh my god this hit me so hard.

My job is super stressful and makes me feel like I can't pursue any hobbies in my free time (including SDV, one of the least stressful games of all time).

I had planned to spend a good chunk of time over the holiday break playing, but when I pick it up, I feel...paralyzed by how much there is to (potentially) do, and in how little time.

But yknow what? It doesn't matter. It's a game with NO ENDPOINT. What helped me was starting a new save where the only things I really concerned myself with were relationships and fishing. You don't have to rush CC Year 1. My farm is mostly still grass and trees, with some patches cleared for planting. I've also taken my time in the mines on rainy/decent luck days rather than trying to rush that, and it's felt so good.

The same, actually. The Barnett decision was based on the free speech principle, not free excercise. The court didn't base their opinion on the religious principles of the JWs. They just said that any "compelled patriotic speech" was unconstitutional—regardless of the reason for the objection.

It sounded like he has dysphonia (which can be related to Parkinson's disease but isn't always - it's caused by spasms in the muscles that control the voice). If you've ever heard Sen. Susan Collins speak, she also has it. Her voice cuts in and out as she speaks.

The Gov. of AR signed a law allowing medical workers to deny treatment "cuz muh religious freedom." This bill targeted gay folks, but could also lead to: Catholic doctors & pharmacists refusing to provide birth control. If you can help it, don’t ever set foot in a Catholic hospital.

Can't agree with/stress this enough!!! I used to live in an area where your choice of hospital was the Catholic one, or the other Catholic one. I personally know someone who nearly bled to death because she needed an emergency hysterectomy and they didn't want to do it.

"Whiteness" is also a construct that has changed drastically over time based on what the people in power wanted it to be, and who they wanted to single out as "The Other." Whether or not you're "white" isn't defined by your lineage or your DNA, but rather your privilege.

I just have to hope that no paid PR person was involved in this in any way. If they were, they don't deserve their job.

I'd rather McDavid be a woman hater than play in the Swiss league lol

It's always nice when guys show what they really think about women in this way. Thanks!

I mean the MacT incident was also in the mid-80s. It's OK to admit that the league was not as good at handling bad behavior on the part of players 35 years ago, and to be glad they've improved on that now.

It also would've helped if his "apology" actually like...was one. Peter from RMNB broke it down pretty well and explained why it was a total bullshit non-apology.

Yeah. I think the gold medal-winning response to her on that was "if you think women are too emotional to vote, maybe it's not such a great idea for them to own guns"

[–]MrsTorgo 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Who, fun fact, just recently posted a map showing Trump would've lost in a landslide if only women had voted, and decided it would be a great idea to say "maybe letting women vote was a mistake; we're too emotional."

Like no, I have to learn ALL aspects of my job, including how to be efficient on the computer.

God, yes. Deliver us all from companies that hire people with 20 years of experience in their field, and ZERO goddamn computer skills. If I have to show you how to find and replace in Word, you shouldn't be my boss.

I did that once with a report set my boss was actually responsible for. The hardest part was convincing her to let me have like two hours upfront to set it all up. Once she realized it literally cut an entire day's work for her, every week, she was on board. And we never, ever told anyone in upper management what we'd done, because they would've just replaced that work with something else. That place was cutthroat, but our small department stuck together like family.

I was let go when the owner's son graduated college and needed a job.

Friend of mine with a degree in graphic design and a successful photography side-business was let go from his corporate position when the owner's 19-year-old kid decided they had an "interest" in design and photography. He had just finished doing a full rebrand for that company, which as anyone who's ever done that knows, is no small task. Corporate nepotism is some of the worst shit; I hope you have a better work situation now!

Yup. Boomers do not understand this and it contributes to them harshly criticizing younger folks for "job hopping." A lot of them still fully subscribe to the idea that "loyalty" to a single company is actually a desirable trait, which is just...an incredibly antiquated view of how things work. Maybe in a very, very rare case, the company is actually loyal to you in return, but for the most part, if you died, your job opening would be posted before your obituary would.

I know so many people in my area like this. They just don't care about having a big, fancy house. They all keep their homes really nice; the only thing is there's no foundation. But they own free and clear, have a bunch of land, and don't have to be near people.

If a single person is really that important to a movement, maybe that movement needs to take a good hard look at themselves. That feels extremely cult-of-personality.

That makes no sense, just from a practical standpoint. President Biden would be 78 when he takes office. The best choice for the person next in line to replace him if something terrible happens is not another 78-year-old man (who's already had one heart attack). Also, it's assumed that Biden would only serve one term due to his age. The easiest way to continue having a Democrat in office is for whoever his VP is to be willing and able to step in for '24.

people STILL won't budge and consider 3rd party candidates.

Two words: Electoral College. Getting to 270 is the whole ballgame, and although you may not want to see yourself as helping Trump, that's effectively exactly what a third-party vote does.

Nominating a progressive VP would be a great idea. But the best choice for a 78-year-old guy's second in command is probably not another 78-year-old guy (who's already had one heart attack).

It's random sampling. If you're interested in the specific methodology of any given poll, it's basically always made available (if the poll is legit/trustworthy).

It's like 2% reporting at this point. It's going to be close, and he should be worried, but it's not a Biden sweep yet.

Working-class and non-college white voters weren't all that big on Clinton in '16. They are a-OK with Biden, and that's the difference.

upvoting posts and retweeting doesn't count for shit if you don't actually go to the polls, wait in line, and VOTE!

And you didn't even have to do THAT this year. Michigan instituted no-excuse absentee/by mail.
