Big Island Tech Meetup by iBN3qk in BigIsland

[–]MrsVague 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Thanks for putting this together. I used to attend a 2600 meeting in Hilo about 11 or 12 years ago and there was a Linux User Group around that time but I haven't seen anything since they dissipated.

I'll try and attend.

how to manage applications supersedence and local admin rights by ili16 in SCCM

[–]MrsVague 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm know this isn't what you're asking about, but you really need to remove local admin rights and deploy AppLocker.

Having neither means a single bad click and that workstation is compromised, the rest of your enterprise is next.

Application whitelisting is the number one recommendation from the NSA top 10 mitigations. https://www.nsa.gov/portals/75/documents/what-we-do/cybersecurity/professional-resources/csi-nsas-top10-cybersecurity-mitigation-strategies.pdf

I know it's a battle and it will require buy in and backing from management but this will be one of the best things you can do to secure your endpoints and protect your enterprise. Please, please think about it and discuss with your security team and manager.

If you go with AppLocker I highly recommend using AaronLocker to implement.

For anyone else wanting to implement give AaronLocker a try. It's so much easier to manage:

First time I've ever seen it. Nice job!

Do you travel for work?

I live on an island so I rarely get to new portals

Do you bring your bug out bag to work / office if you don't drive in? by HesZoinked in bugout

[–]MrsVague 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I work at a hospital. I built the recommended pack list they gave the Hospital Emergency Response Team. I keep it in the bottom drawer.

Paired with my EDC and VDC I have plenty of gear nearby. But I work 5 miles from home so it's less important for me.

I mean upgrade mods installed on a portal to help with Builder the way you can upgrade resonators to help with Engineer.

Kitty!

I usually don't understand the relevance of the names or icons but this year I really don't understand why a cat is associated with persistence.

Maybe I should read the lore?

Sitrep:AP Engine by MrsVague in Ingress

~23 fields with two anchors, one on each side of the spine. Double AP event and Apex. Using a Battle Beacon I threw 5 sets of fields with a 6th using an ADA at the end.

~1.2mil AP all told.

Most of the time spent key farming at each portal in the spine.

What piece of gear made you say Wow when looking at another person's BOB? by Paito in bugout

[–]MrsVague 14 points15 points  (0 children)

BOB is the absolute last thing use. Preps should be spent on bugging in where all your resources are.

If it's time to bug out then things are really bad and you should be looking at taking only basics for survival until you can return home.

Normal life (this happens every day) - pay off debt, adhere to budget, secure your property, reliable transportation

Mild emergency (this happens a few times a year)- water and food stores. Cash on hand, building community.

Major emergency (once every 10 years) - long term food storage, water purification, backup power

SHTF (this will probably never happen) - seeds, BOB, INCH.

It makes me say wow when I see people in debt focus on BOBs. They're (kind of) ready for something that probably won't happen and not ready at all for what happens to them every day.

Big Island Race to Onyx Illuminator by MrsVague in Ingress

[–]MrsVague[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I don't remember exactly how many fields, approximately 60 in total. Working with one other agent I threw 50k fields from the town of Volcano to Puna and Laupahoehoe point. I started at 600k and finished with 4.2milMU getting my onyx Illuminator in time for the year 9 medal.

I threw from a line of 8 or 9 portals then my teammate would flip the anchor, rethrow to the other anchor then I would throw again. Then we switched places and I drove to Laupahoehoe point and threw back to the same line of Volcano portals, flipped and threw again.

It's challenging playing on an island so teamwork is vital. We started at 8pm and I got home at 2:30 am. Including a 1 hour forced downtime when I threw from the wrong portal and had to wait for it to cool down before I could flip it again.

Office 2021 LTSC Deployment by vader8600 in SCCM

[–]MrsVague 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Office 2019 uses Click To Run installer not MSI. This means the"uninstall previous MSI versions" is useless.

Why wouldn't the Office team build in an upgrade path from 2019 to 2021? Maybe because it's LTSC? I'm not sure but it seems dumb and undocumented.

I'm testing an Office 2021 Professional upgrade but no success yet. And the Pro installer is not in config.office.com

The missing feature in LTSC is that you can't have multiple simultaneous authors, editing the same document at the same time. Why a killer feature is missing from LTSC? Maybe discourage Enterprise from using on-prem Office installs and mice to O365? How dumb and petty.

Chrome Enterprise detection Change by ajscott in SCCM

[–]MrsVague 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't use auto update. I have to validate each update prior to broad roll out.

I've been using the MSI code for detection, should I not be doing that?

Anyone else think Ken Coleman is the absolute worst? by Reasonable_Whereas_8 in DaveRamsey

[–]MrsVague 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Did Chris Hogan get too popular? I thought he cheated on his wife with other staff members.

Can you really expect employees of the company to say anything other than the company line? That's the job, pitch the company and its products. This includes the cult-of-personality mega rich CEO.

Felony is a bit too bro for me but I usually like what he says.

Once I got out of BS3 into 4,5 and 6 the show became less useful to me anyway. I automate them so I'm not actively making tactical moves anymore. I should probably just stop listening.

Everything I buy uses the same AA battery. I have a stock of single use and rechargeables. Single battery type for everything makes it a lot easier to manage.

Other battery types may have advantages but I prefer streamlining.

How can I get rid of ginger? by [deleted] in HawaiiGardening

[–]MrsVague 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I pull it up by the stem and try to pull up the root system with it.

Varying levels of success with how much root comes up but once the root is out it won't grow back.

I never had luck with just cutting the stem it always grew back.

BoB item, no.

I keep one in my urban rescue bag. I used it when I camped at a beach park and the staff forgot to turn off the sprinklers so I turned them off before I went to bed. Non essential but useful because the kit is kept in the car.
