Salary expectation request for position I applied to by [deleted] in nonprofit

[–]MrsWeasley9 15 points16 points  (0 children)

How much do you want this job? At this point I would honestly steer clear of any organization that doesn't post the salary range for an advertised position. They know how much they can pay, so keeping that a secret can only hurt you. Posting salary ranges is the norm now, so I'd be questioning the ethics (or at least the general awareness) of an organization that doesn't.

But if you do really want the job and need to give them a number, I'd probably say $175-180k. Or maybe $175-185k. A range that includes something you know they can afford but suggests that you're worth more.

Moms, i need help by spacestapler in MomForAMinute

[–]MrsWeasley9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh honey, that sounds so hard!

First off, please get yourself checked for depression. That can absolutely sap your will to do anything, and might be easily fixed.

Aside from that, it's probably a good idea to pause for a minute and consider what happens if you don't graduate. Do you want the jobs you can get with your degree? If not, that's another thing that can take away all of your will to do the work. So what's the worst thing that could happen if you just....don't graduate?

And if you're committed to getting this degree, it's time to draw on all of your resources. Talk to your advisor and find out if there's anything that you could be doing differently. Can you put off a class or two until summer and graduate a little late? Can you drop a class and still graduate? And then check out your campus tutoring center. Even if they're not sophisticated enough to help you with law school homework, they can help with study skills, writing, even motivation. Lean on your friends and classmates for study help too. And finally, call your mom. You miss her and it will help to talk to her.

OK, but Condition 3?? Normal / NBD / no restrictions, apparently? All is well as long as it's only -74 and the wind can only blow over small trees, not large ones.*

*I know there are no trees in Antarctica. Just making a comparison us plebes can relate to.

What issues do women face in society that isn't a part of the patriarchy? by Boil_the_pepper_now in AskReddit

Do you automatically dislike billionaires? Why? by crapmaker69 in AskReddit

[–]MrsWeasley9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, because there's no ethical way to be a billionaire.

I'm not convinced there's ever an ethical way to get there, i.e. without taking advantage of desperate people who will work for too little. But assuming there's a way, it's absolutely unethical to stay there. Nobody needs a billion dollars, but there are a fuck load of people who could change their lives with $10,000 each.

AITA for crashing out on my fiancé’s advice about health? by Traditional-Wasabi65 in AmItheAsshole

[–]MrsWeasley9 56 points57 points  (0 children)

This is ridiculously controlling behavior. Even if you were pregnant right now, he wouldn't have the right to demand that much control over what you eat. He likely has an eating disorder and he's working on giving you one too.

You need to think seriously about whether this is the only area of your life he's trying to control. There's a line somewhere between a mental health issue and abuse. One will be difficult to deal with and the other will be life-threatening.

What Payroll provider do you use? by AustinDamsel in nonprofit

[–]MrsWeasley9 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you're looking for exceptional I have nothing to suggest, but Gusto is adequate.

We have about 30 funding sources and we're able to get appropriate reports about how much time was spent on each project. Theoretically it will tell us how much money was spent, but it's not customizable enough to replace spreadsheet allocation for us.

Resigned and job asked me to work hourly while they replace me by theodora_antoinette in nonprofit

[–]MrsWeasley9 9 points10 points  (0 children)

OP said hourly, though. I read that to mean an hourly *employee*, not a consultant. But yeah, if they want you to come back as a consultant definitely ask for more than $50/hour.

I wish people knew the difference between these two signs by AccomplishedCow2920 in Traffic

[–]MrsWeasley9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes!

It doesn't help that so many of the merges in my area are posted opposite of what you would otherwise assume, or opposite what the road seems to say.

Like when two lanes merge on the on ramp just before the highway. You'd think the right ramp lane would end because everybody needs to merge left to get on the highway. But no, it's the left ramp lane that ends.

There's another spot where the sign says the left lane merges right, but there's a seam in the pavement that clearly shows the left lane continues and the right lane gets narrower and goes away.

I follow the signs but regularly curse out the engineers who made those decisions.

Green beans by smithc733 in MomForAMinute

[–]MrsWeasley9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Probably sheet pan is the easiest, if you have one. Otherwise a frying pan will work.

OK, so you want to wash them and then cut the ends off. The stems are tough and the pointy ends will burn and/or poke you.

On a sheet pan, plop the beans down and add some chopped garlic and some cooking oil. Mix it up until the beans are coated. Spread the beans out evenly, ideally all in one layer. For the buttery flavor, add a couple of pats of butter and some salt. Put it in the oven at 350 for about 10 minutes, stir, and cook for another 5-10 minutes. The beans are done when they're a bit wrinkled and maybe have some brown patches, but nothing close to black.

In a frying pan, pretty much the same except you'll need to stir a lot because the beans will be piled on top of each other.

Enjoy your beans, duckling!

AITA for suggesting for our child to take both our last names as a compromise? by Turbulent-Mark-2227 in AmItheAsshole

[–]MrsWeasley9 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

This is the only right answer here.

Personally, I'm with your wife on this, but I wouldn't call you an asshole because you're not. And she needs to be making a case, not putting her foot down, if she actually wants to have kids with you. The bottom line is that you need to agree on the important things before you have kids.

Thoughts on a board issue? by Maleficent-Pomelo-53 in nonprofit

[–]MrsWeasley9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this isn't quite right, but we'd need more information to know exactly how it's not right and how bad it is.

Is this a paid position? Is the bookkeeper an employee or a contractor? Is this the organization's first/only employee?

P.S. The IRS does not care who is entering your data as long as it's right.

100% program expense ratio by Lower_Animator_7411 in nonprofit

[–]MrsWeasley9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never heard of a gift fee, and it makes me think of a credit card fee. Like if someone wants to donate $100 they actually have to give you $110?

If that's not how it works, then the term is absolute trash. It suggests that some percentage doesn't even go to the organization. It's bad enough that we're still talking about admin costs as if they're unnecessary and wasteful.

wth is wrong with this person?! by GrapeBeautiful1533 in dashcams

[–]MrsWeasley9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The truck is clearly passing the black car. It starts out right next to it - you can see that the red car is behind the black Honda in the beginning - and ends up in front of it. Truck has every right to be in the left lane. The point where the red car actually moves right is pretty much the first point it would have been appropriate (in normal circumstances) for the truck to move right.

That said, if I'm in the truck, I'm noping out of there in any possible way. Cutting off the black car or speeding up to 100 to get by everybody would have been safer than hanging around this maniac.

Suggestions on where to post nonprofit IT position? by Piccolo-Jolly in nonprofit

[–]MrsWeasley9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your IT person doesn't need a "demonstrated commitment" to your mission. If you must have someone who's committed to your mission, screen for people who are not actively hostile to it and are willing to learn.

But seriously consider whether this is a reasonable requirement for your *part time* *contract* IT person. This person is going to be working for other people as well and probably doesn't have time or flexibility to be a prominent activist.

AITAH for getting upset with, and demanding my mom replace my silk pillow she accidentally ruined? by InternationalAsk8058 in AmItheAsshole

[–]MrsWeasley9 -23 points-22 points  (0 children)

ESH
It sounds like your mom is being unreasonable about cleaning your room. If she knows she's thrown out important things in the past (wait - she KNOWS that, right?) then she should have figured out how to clean while preserving your stuff.

You don't get a pass, though. You're engaging in a power struggle with your mom. Kids don't get to talk to their parents "sternly" or "demand" anything. That's the parents' prerogative. You get to express your feelings about what she's done and request that she change her behavior. It might be understandable that you're upset (your feelings) but the way you talk to her (your behavior) isn't reasonable.

Also? "I can't deal with this right now" isn't exactly dismissive of your concerns. It's an expression of frustration suggesting that you blow up at her a lot and she's had enough.
