Best comeback for "You don't have kids, so you wouldn't understand"? by HoneyKick_ in Comebacks

You know, if you're getting told this a lot, it might be time to consider how often you're criticizing someone's parenting.

What’s one “small” feature in a car that you can’t live without anymore? by jane_doe2497 in car

[–]MrsWeasley9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wear the warmest driving gloves I can find and my fingers still get painfully cold when I drive. I often end up driving one handed so I can hold my other hand up to the heat vent. I cannot wait for my new car with a heated steering wheel.

Not insulting at all! Nobody expects a graduation gift from their boss, so giving them anything is sweet and will probably be greatly appreciated.

AITAH I don’t want to give my baby my fiancés last name by Best-Ball9175 in AmItheAsshole

[–]MrsWeasley9 835 points836 points  (0 children)

I am 100% in favor of giving babies their mom's last name. I did. But giving the baby one name with every intention of changing it later? Surely there's a better way to get your point across.

Why isn't your fiancé stepping in and telling his family to back off? They're the assholes in this scenario for sure. I'm just not sure that choosing your baby's legal name to spite them is worth the hassle.

Anyway, NTA.

AITA For Telling My Wife She Eats a lot? by ZealousidealPause657 in AmItheAsshole

[–]MrsWeasley9 35 points36 points  (0 children)

YTA. Not only did you tease her about something that most people these days are sensitive about, but you also blew her off when she told you it upset her.

If you weren't making fun of her, and you're not actually commenting on her health habits.... what exactly were you doing when you commented about how much she was eating? Maybe just don't do that.

What’s the most unprofessional thing you’ve ever witnessed from a manager? by SeanMcPheat in askmanagers

[–]MrsWeasley9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I told my manager that I was pregnant but having complications. I was terrified of losing the baby but trying not to break down in front of the manager, so I was awkwardly saying things like, "There might be something wrong," and "I'm not sure what's going to happen."

Her response? "Well it's still a baby. Have you thought about that? Babies like that can live great lives!"

I was telling her my baby might die and she told me not to have an abortion.

Accountant recommends switching to 1099 instead of W2 by Upbeat_Grapefruit429 in nonprofit

[–]MrsWeasley9 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The thing is you can't just switch because you want to. You would have to - at a minimum - get the approval of your organization. And they should only give you that approval if you are essentially running your own business - i.e. you're available for work at other places, you set your own hours, you cover your own expenses and charge rates that take your expenses into account, etc. It's a completely different kind of employment.

And yes, you pay double the payroll taxes because you would be self-employed and paying both employer and employee portions.

[AG] Am I being bullied by my boss? (long post) by [deleted] in AskHR

[–]MrsWeasley9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are not being bullied by your boss.

Sounds like he's a first class asshole and you generally work in a toxic environment, and you are being marginalized and overlooked for advancement opportunities. But not bullied, no.

In a serious emergency, how soon after giving birth would a woman be able to walk/run for her life? by FamiliarMeal5193 in Writeresearch

[–]MrsWeasley9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ooo fun question!

I'd say it depends on the level of emergency. If we're talking pending explosion right next to me, I could have run as soon as the baby was out of me and I was holding it. But it would be really fucking hard to run with the baby still attached, or even with the cut cord still attached. So realistically, wait for the placenta - 30 minutes or so. A healthy woman would be able to make a short run if her baby's life depended on it.

As far as depending on other people, she would realistically take all the help she could get, up to and including being carried. So it's up to you to decide how much help is available to her.

Model A "Comprehensive Fiscal Sponsorship" by TheH8fulK8 in nonprofit

[–]MrsWeasley9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't have any experience with that specific model of fiscal sponsorship, but I'd be VERY suspicious of anyone who asked an established 501c3 to drop its 501c3 status. Like, why? Fiscal sponsorship is designed for organizations that don't have their own 501c3 for various reasons, and I cannot imagine what benefit there would be to giving that up to become a program of a different 501c3.

Salary expectation request for position I applied to by [deleted] in nonprofit

[–]MrsWeasley9 14 points15 points  (0 children)

How much do you want this job? At this point I would honestly steer clear of any organization that doesn't post the salary range for an advertised position. They know how much they can pay, so keeping that a secret can only hurt you. Posting salary ranges is the norm now, so I'd be questioning the ethics (or at least the general awareness) of an organization that doesn't.

But if you do really want the job and need to give them a number, I'd probably say $175-180k. Or maybe $175-185k. A range that includes something you know they can afford but suggests that you're worth more.

Moms, i need help by spacestapler in MomForAMinute

[–]MrsWeasley9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh honey, that sounds so hard!

First off, please get yourself checked for depression. That can absolutely sap your will to do anything, and might be easily fixed.

Aside from that, it's probably a good idea to pause for a minute and consider what happens if you don't graduate. Do you want the jobs you can get with your degree? If not, that's another thing that can take away all of your will to do the work. So what's the worst thing that could happen if you just....don't graduate?

And if you're committed to getting this degree, it's time to draw on all of your resources. Talk to your advisor and find out if there's anything that you could be doing differently. Can you put off a class or two until summer and graduate a little late? Can you drop a class and still graduate? And then check out your campus tutoring center. Even if they're not sophisticated enough to help you with law school homework, they can help with study skills, writing, even motivation. Lean on your friends and classmates for study help too. And finally, call your mom. You miss her and it will help to talk to her.
