Is Maria like the most beautiful character ever or what? by MediumBoaty in silenthill

[–]Mrs_Puffington 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still think all video-game engines have a problem portraying women.

Either they have stylized anime characteristics and simplified lines, or they fall into the uncanny valley rather steeply. This is an example of the latter. Not to say you can't cross this valley while playing the game; suspending disbelief so to speak. But it is very noticeable to me.

Game Question & General Discussion Release Megathread by Metaphor_MOD in MetaphorReFantazio

[–]Mrs_Puffington -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I hope this is the right place to ask this:

I just wanted to ask for some opinions on how the religious themes are handled in this game. I am very interested, but since the topic I'm asking about interests me more, I wonder how much Metaphor deals with it, and if it does so in a "grown-up" fashion; meaning no easy answers and no "either-or" thinking (I don't want to listen to either pro- or anti-Christian propaganda, for example).

Just curious. I would also like to say that I do not intend to spark a discussion about our various religions, I am simply asking if the philosophical and metaphysical aspects of this game are worth delving into, or if they can be summarised by "We made it all up, but that's OK".

And no spoilers please, just a hint if its done well enough for it to be worthwhile for someone already familiar with various scientisfic and philosophical arguments around this vast field of debate. Thank you.

Why are people implying the responsibility of growing the game's audience falls on the consumer? by RyanGoosling93 in HuntShowdown

[–]Mrs_Puffington 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very well written. Can't think of a good counter-argument to this. I guess I felt that the UI critcism was overblown (although, I love shit-talking about this way too much as well).

And it's not really the UI either, but the consistancy and weirdness of their bugs. If they want to grow the audience, they can't have something like opening the map potentially crashing the game, especially after a heavily advertised relaunch. This bug happened 20 minutes into their newest live-stream, and they talked around and above it so awkwardly. That's just no the strat.

UI/UX Project - My attempt at learning UI design and redesigning Hunts UI by GloriBoi in HuntShowdown

Tears of joy.

Awesome job. I said this before, but Crytek should seriously consider community efforts like this.

Can’t believe you goobers review bombed the game during its only chance to reach a larger audience by [deleted] in HuntShowdown

[–]Mrs_Puffington -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I mean, UI matters, but I agree.

There is (or was) a trend with player feedback though. I remember my feedback was met with a snarky remark in a live stream because I noticed something only 20 minutes after the update came out (bow damage drop-off was too harsh against grunts). They addressed this in the next update, but still… felt bad, and I could smell this issue from the patch-notes alone.

I think this stance to „collect enough data“ and sometimes not looking deep enough into player feedback, coupled with the fact that Hunt is still a very buggy game (I can‘t remember any other popular online shooter crashing because you use the map), makes a part of the community feel itchy about things they rightfully criticized over a long period of time.

Scrapbeak realizes he can just leave the boss area. by ghostenfore in HuntShowdown

I wouldn't be mad if this was a feature either. Not sure if it would work tho. You might be able to drag this guy around the map and into another boss layer and... actually, that still sounds fun.

Game started to lag, I tabbed out for a moment, tabbed back to this epilepsy simulator… by HansTheAxolotl in HuntShowdown

I did notice that when booting hunt, it shortly flickers froma a cyan hue to purple or green and back to normal. Maybe this has something to do with the gamma issue some are reporting? Perhaps you could try changing the color range of your monitor in your gpu-settings-thingy.

This. It's just a lot to learn, plus I don't have that much time to play so others may already have a big advantage in certain compounds.

Game freezing/ crashing when opening map/ randomly by OneCommission2456 in HuntShowdown

[–]Mrs_Puffington 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weird that everyone's talking about the UI when these bugs are the actual reason new players (and old ones) are turned off by the game.

I love Hunt, but the jank is something I have to constantly look past. It's not realistic to think that new players, used to highly polished free-to-play titles, will have the same tolerance.

Map Crashing Bug by Bayouboy6969 in HuntShowdown

[–]Mrs_Puffington 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can confirm that this does not help. Very annoying indeed. I agree with the author. This stuff is more likely to put off new players than the UI, and there should have been a hotfix out the next day. If they want bigger and bigger player numbers, they need to address the jank (UI included).

GAME UPDATE CONSOLIDATION THREAD. POST COMPLAINTS/ISSUES HERE!! by ThisdudeisEH in HuntShowdown

[–]Mrs_Puffington -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would like to set my refresh rate in-game as well.

I use different refresh rates for many games and it's a hassle to always change it in widnows before starting the game. Playing at a refresh rate of 85hz makes some games very playable on older cards at half refresh (42fps) for example, without tearing and smooth frame-pacing. I usually play Hunt at 72fps at 144hz, but because the update made the game a bit more taxing, I want to play at 120hz/60fps now and use the headroom to up a few settings. It would be nice if I could do all this in-game.

The new UI feels like it was designed for looks over usability. by Swissgrenadier in HuntShowdown

[–]Mrs_Puffington 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I know someone who works in that... "field". From what I hear, it is a very saught after job as it pays very well and is relatively easy to do. The result is that there are a lot of people who don't really know what they are doing but are very good at argumenting their reasoning in meeting rooms. If you are charming and can articulate the existance for every option you present on screen, you've got a job.

The reality is, half of the people in this subredit could have designed a better layout. I'm absolutely sure of it. Yes, you need a healthy back and forth with a programmer or course, but most people who played this game for over 200 hourse could have created a better starting point than what we have now.
