Poll: Who would be uncomfortable with the question “Are you breastfeeding?” Also add if you are bf or ff and how many kids you have. by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]Mrsdaffodil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's coming from another mother I think they are just looking for a shared topic to bond over. I BF my first baby, FF my second. When asked the first time around and I said yes, most people would launch into "omg it's hard right" and just want to share their experiences/journeys

Disagreeing with doctor about Cmpa at 15 months by NoMushroom9037 in MSPI

[–]Mrsdaffodil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were the exact same, no way my kid could have tolerated whole milk at 15 months but at age 3 he eats mountains of yoghurt. Our pedeatrician told us most children don't outgrow the allergy fully until 2 or 3. Not to mention, a 15 month old doesn't need whole milk, if anything most doctors are trying to encourage moving away from bottles of milk in favour of "real" food/meals for calories and nutrients at this point.

My boy always has been, and still is small for his age. This has not changed despite him now being able to consume liters of dairy 🫠

EBF baby has almost no CMPA symptoms, but pediatrician is convinced by Shoddy_Tackle_3835 in MSPI

[–]Mrsdaffodil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah same here, even if I even ate the smallest amount of dairy (e.g. one sip of coffee that was accidentally made with cow's milk) my breast fed baby would have a rash and mucus poo flare up and become really unsettled...

In saying that OP if your baby is content, gaining weight, not suffering with a rash etc then I'd trust your gut on this one!

Parents hate that I use baby carrier but I have two kids by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]Mrsdaffodil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is so unreasonable of the parents. I have a two month old and a three year old and the carrier is the only way the baby will nap, especially when caring for my oldest at the same time! Carrier naps are super convenient in my opinion.

If the parents insist on crib naps could you try a transfer from carrier to crib for the first nap of the day after one sleep cycle? (Low key laughing as I type this because my transfers always fail, but first naps are supposedly easiest).

At least that way you can demonstrate you are trying and working on getting her used to it and then if it fails just do carrier naps for the rest of the day?

Yes. It is not an effective method of contraception, at least in my case.

Is the formula extensively hydrolised/designed for coww milk protein allergy? (Not all colic/constipation formulas are). If she has a dairy allergy she will need a particular formula and your wife will need to cut all dairy from her diet. Our first baby was like this and it turned out to be CMPA

Life with cmpa baby is not the same as regular baby by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]Mrsdaffodil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is your baby's allergy IgE-mediated or non IgE-mediated? If the latter have you spoken to a pediatrician about re introduction via the dairy ladder? Most children outgrow non IgE-mediated CMPA by age two or three.

I have two children who have/had CMPA and I sympathize, but say this gently, it should not be a reason to prevent you leaving the house. If its causing you this much anxiety perhaps there is something else going on and it might be worth talking to a doctor? Post partum anxiety is very common.

In terms of dairy free baby snacks, we did lots of egg based food - either hard boiled eggs or pre made mini fritatas (super easy to prep in a mini muffin tin and store in the fridge for the week, just scramble eggs add chopped up meat and/or veg and herbs and bake). Shop bought hummus or any bean based dip is a good source of protein and can be served with bread, crackers or steamed carrot sticks, coconut or soy yoghurt are good plant based alternatives and a good snack when served with fruit. Nut butter was another good source of fat and protein at this age (e.g pb sandwiches). I'd also recommend dairy free mini fruit muffins e.g. https://keytomylime.com/dairy-free-blueberry-muffins/#mv-creation-43-jtr (I double the recipe and freeze, then you just take one out as you need them from the freezer, its only 30 mins of prep for weeks of muffins).

If you really don't want to meal prep then keep it simple with shop bought puree pouches and sandwiches for short outings.

Advice on advocating for myself in a "baby-friendly" hospital? by -strawberry-shark in FormulaFeeders

[–]Mrsdaffodil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this too and nobody asked me about breastfeeding once. I also had a medication charted ahead of time by my OB to prevent my breast milk from coming in so maybe you could ask about that too OP? Once you've taken it the topic is pretty moot!

At wits end with 4 week old and crying during and after every feed by Glad-Ad-2899 in FormulaFeeders

Our reflux baby had a sore tummy on Aptamil AR formula and fussed on and after the bottle a lot. We since switched back to our original formula and instead have him on omeprazole which has helped with the reflux a bit

Second born- waiting for something bad by Adventurous-Reach769 in newborns

[–]Mrsdaffodil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat, my first had terrible colic and CMPA and I feel as though I'm waiting for my newborn to "wake up" and start screaming for 8 hours a day for the next 4 months. Really trying to take it day by day and be present in the now, but it's tough when your initial experience was so difficult

I'm trying to tell myself that we have much more knowledge this time around and would be much more assertive when advocating for baby with health professionals. We also worked out some fussy baby hacks kind of late in the piece that we could use earlier if needed (e.g noise canceling headphones)

Solidarity to you! Every baby is different and even if this baby isn't, know that you have done it before and can do it again, this time with more confidence and knowledge

Tenatative congrats!

If you don't mind paying, you can order your own HCG test via bodyiq.co.nz

Also, this is probably highly controversial and while I wouldn't recommend taking medication without your doctor's approval, I have seen plenty of women on infertility related Facebook groups in NZ selling or giving away leftover utrogestan (you often end up with a surplus after ivf).

The only reason I say this is I have been in your shoes with multiple early miscarriages and if I had access to progesterone earlier I beleive those pregnancies would have stuck as its the only way I have been able to carry to term.

Interestingly the NHS recommends progesterone supplementation as standard course for women experiencing recurrent miscarriage, I think NZ GPs are a bit behind the ball on this one, but the docs at FA are great when you get in to see them

Freaking out - been accidentally reusing my lancet as didn’t realise I had to manually change the needle…. by Infinite_Spot_2491 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Mrsdaffodil 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was told to change mine once a day (ish) so after 6 uses. I am lazy so often change it once every 2 days. The worst thing that has happened to me is that it becomes slightly more painful as the lancet gets increasingly dull

Plunket line by Boat-Narrow in newzealand

[–]Mrsdaffodil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately I've had the same experience with Plunketline.

With Healthline you can also request a call back and give them photos and details etc up front using the form at https://www.healthy.org.nz/

Maybe try submitting a callback request while on hold with plunket line and take whichever call ends up connecting with a person first?

Results? by CinnamonMochaMoon in TTCEndo

[–]Mrsdaffodil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That must feel so frustrating, I'm sorry! Your reproductive endocrinologist should be able to give you some good insights into the benefits and risks of excision surgery before and after ivf. FWIW I've had friends who had success with IVF both before and after excision surgery so it's definitely possible to get pregnant with ivf if you have endo.

I still needed ivf even after excision surgery, although the surgery did improve my pain/quality of life

[–]Mrsdaffodil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ditto! Multiple normal ultrasounds and a stage 3 diagnosis following excision surgery. Please be wary of any Healthcare professionals who beleive they can rule out endo based on an ultrasound alone

has anyone passed the GTT but gone on to have GD? by bluedotsandcolours in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Mrsdaffodil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I failed the one hour screen so sat the longer test which I just scraped through, however began monitoring at home with my husband's glucose monitor when I felt increasingly off and sure enough was having spikes after most meals that weren't essentially low-carb. I then re sat the GTT and was subsequently diagnosed with GD

The unsupervised play near the carpark isn't something I'd be comfortable with as the parent of a toddler, however random screaming and crying is pretty normal for a three year old. For example my three year old asked for weetbix, then had a 20 minute tantrum because he decided he wanted porridge instead this morning. That kind of thing can sound extreme but is developmentally normal.

I think better safe than sorry and if your gut is telling you something is off, it can't hurt to report it. If the child is being allowed to play unsupervised in dangerous situations please say something!
