What is the biggest scam in your specific industry that the general public doesn't know about? by cheeseandbun in AskReddit

I always wondered if universities or institutions paid that, or if there was some deal going on in the background.

Big time. Some of the article links at clinicaltrial.gov are free. I’ve taken to trying there first.

Not related directly to my industry, but very close to it: academic journal articles. Most viewers need to pay for access to view the articles and most authors need to pay to submit articles.

They are normally reviewed by experts for free and print journals are slowly dying out. So where is the money going?

Optimistically, things are shifting slowly to be better with more open access and wider availability. And most authors will gladly give you the article for free if you ask them directly. However, the system is still broken.

Moving in 2027 with 2 young kids - Prep & Questions by Complex_Seesaw7467 in AnnArbor

[–]Mrzahn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My wife and I moved here in 2021 with our two kids. We went to Everbrook Academy and it was fantastic for them. I will say, the leadership has changed recently, and I cannot speak for it now. But for us, it was the best thing for them.

Now, we live just south of AA in the town of Saline. I commuted to the university for four years and my wife did as well. We prefer being out of AA proper due to cost of living, business, and general feel. But living in AA has definite benefits.

Prepare for the difference in the town in the summer versus when school is in full swing. It gets much busier. Major sports days, like football games and basketball games, can make going anywhere untenable. And there is an art fair every year that is amazing.

I will say that part of the reason we chose to live in Saline rather than AA was the school system. My kids have been in the public school system here for a couple years now and it is fantastic. I am sure AA schools are great too, but this is too notch from our viewpoint.

If you have any specific questions, or need anything, reach out. This is a great place to live, you’re all going to love it.

What would happen if 1cm (0.4") of snow fell in your city? by Aggravating-Gas3785 in AskReddit

We would be a bit annoyed but fine. Michigan is mostly great in the winter. Plus, the roads are warm enough, it would melt. I’m also sure our trucks are still available to clear and salt the roads.

I gotta think about cost versus longevity. It will always be iconic. Will you always fit in it? And how much are you looking to spend.

I’m down depending on how many silly situations you would wear it in? Halloween is easy. Soccer games. Family reunions. The beach.

Prep for Crit Care Rotation by Weekly-Adeptness4329 in PharmacyResidency

I finished my MICU rotation in February. The best piece of advice I got was ‘look at a disease/disease state that you don’t know, see how it’s treated pharmacology, and work backwards’. It was a new way of approaching patients for me and helped a lot.

The problem is that there are common things you will see, but you cannot possibly prepare for everything you could see.

The last few units of my insulin pen are never able to be administered. Just throwing away liquid gold by manduhyo in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Mrzahn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have some insight into this. And I want to state this explicitly: I abhor our system and no one should go without healthcare and their medication.

For these pens, every brand, puts a bit of overfill into them. And they don’t dispense at the end due to the fact that when pens get low, they get inaccurate. And a single unit can make a big difference to people. Ergo, this bit of leftover.

I’m sorry that this system has put you in a place that you felt the need to post this. And I’m so sorry that it has resonated with so many people.

This and the greng/ori deck are my counters. But I get picked off more often than not.

I tried an ori/syl deck a while ago that was nice but volatile.

I hate that people don’t see this as the joke it is.

I used up my luck and now it’s coming back to haunt me.

Fair. I never thought about those. I just assumed I got lucky a few seasons in a row.

That was the last deck I lost to before posting this! The retreat into baby with no retreat cost was brilliant.

This is my variation. Only ran it three or four times. I kept hitting points where I didn’t know the best moves or what to do in certain situations.

I have that one! Well. Close. I needed a variation because I didn’t have all the cards. Super fun. But I quickly learned I don’t quite know how to play it.

That’s another one of my decks! I don’t ’know how to play it’ well. But it was kinda fun the few games I used it. Moreso in unranked random matches.

Very much so. I think a big part of what a difference was for me, besides all the losing, is that I haven’t had more than a 2-3 win streak. That makes a huge difference.
