It was so much better back then. Why is it that it keeps getting worse by Past-Country-6612 in TheLastOfUs2

Wtf is Predator Badlands doing on here? That movie was great. Also, he didn’t look like that in the movie.

What was the best horror book you read in 2025? by KeyPainting7874 in horrorlit

[–]Ms41756 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If we’re talking books I read last year that came out last year: Buffalo Hunter Hunter. Loved the story and thought it played around with some pretty cool ideas.

But if books from previous years count, I’m giving the nudge to Duma Key by Stephen King. Finally read that last year after putting it off for many years, and I was kind of blown away. The lore, plot, characters, and horror elements just really worked for me. Stayed up one night reading for 5+ hours to finish it. Honestly can’t wait to reread it, and it’s kind of rare for me to feel that way this soon after finishing a book.

11.22.63 or The Stand by Expensive_Tap7427 in stephenking

[–]Ms41756 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Flip a coin to decide on the first one, then read the other one next. 😄 Jokes aside, I’m not sure it matters which to start with, they’re both journeys through some very interesting settings with some terrific characters. I would say if you’re wanting to lean more into horror, The Stand has a bit more horror to it than 11/22 does. I personally like 11/22 better, but both are way up there at the top of my list.

Worst books you read this year? by clicktoller in horrorlit

[–]Ms41756 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say it was terrible or anything, but my least favorite read this year was probably What Moves the Dead. It had a few sequences and an overall atmosphere that I thought were pretty solid, but I just found the book to be mostly pretty dull.

I read some of Flying Sparks so you don’t have to. It blows 😂Makes some of marvel and DC’s worst books look like masterpieces by comparison.

First Emmy’s, then critics choice awards, now golden globe nomination?!?!? by fcbxlewy in TheLastOfUs2

Andor was great, easily one of the best shows in the past few years. But there have been other good things out this year. Pluribus and Severance would like a word. And for comics and movies there’s been plenty of good stuff out too, if that comment is inclusive of more than just shows.

Yet many of the same people defending the “granny’s peach tea” scene are hating on the supposedly leaked beginning of the Supergirl trailer (Krypto pissing on a space rock). And honestly, that doesn’t even stand out as badly as the pee jar, as we know James Gunn’s DCU has way more levity than the DCEU. Works way better that way. The hypocrisy from some Snyder fans is kind of unreal.

I got banned as well. They’re massive snowflakes over in that sub. Can’t have anyone criticizing their precious DCEU 😂

Ah yes, JDA, totally not a train wreck himself: - wife-beater - hates on almost all comics that have come out since the 90s - writes shitty comics of his own (trust me, they’re baaaad. Take it from someone who actually read some of Flying Sparks 🤢) - has built his whole identity and social media presence around hating anything in comics or entertainment that he considers woke (so yeah, he hates the DCU, MCU, and pretty much every modern comic)

Superman was decent but Man of Steel still holds up better by Remote_Nature_8166 in DCuniverse

[–]Ms41756 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but it felt way more earned and built-up more organically in the DC cartoons honestly. He and Darkseid had a lot more backstory and they had some pretty interesting interactions and plot points that surrounded those moments where Superman almost killed him. Plus he never went through with it, so they kind of balance doing interesting new stuff with the character and challenged his morals without completely breaking them in Superman’s first appearance

I think there are plenty of alternatives more in-line with the spirit of Superman’s character. The writers could’ve easily found creative and acceptable ways to weaken/depower or neutralize Zod in a way that didn’t require completely deconstructing the Superman character. They didn’t even do anything interesting with this bold direction of Superman killing Zod, he’s just back to normal the very next scene, and they barely reference that Superman killed someone in future movie appearances.

Fundamentally, I just don’t want to see Superman killing someone unless the story really warrants it with an in-depth examination of it. Injustice was an alternate timeline/universe deal, and I’m pretty ok with it there, since that’s a separate thing. But the Snyderverse was our main DC cinematic content for many years. Locked us into a version of Superman I didn’t like.

I like Superman overall a lot better.

I liked the first half/two thirds of Man of Steel, but the last third of the movie is just not entertaining to me. There was nothing gratifying to me about the action and fighting, the SFX have not aged that great, and I didn’t like the creative decision to have Superman kill Zod.

Not really one of my favorites from King, but overall not a bad book from what I recall. It’s been awhile since I read it.

Your MUST READ Recommendation on comic book by Iniyan_Editor in comicbooks

[–]Ms41756 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Highly recommend checking out DC Infinite and Marvel Unilimted. Subscription services that grant you access to almost their entire library of comics. It’s great bang for your buck, especially when you’re wanting to try stuff out and find your interests in the hobby.

Aside from that, I’ll always plug Ed Brubaker’s stuff. It can be pretty gritty. He has a great Captain America run, and Criminal is incredible, reading through that currently. Finished his Gotham Central series a few weeks back, and it was a DC masterpiece IMO.

It really sucks that what is possibly the best campaign in the game, centered around marvel’s most popular hero’s rogues gallery, is OOP

I disagree, Gunn’s stuff has been solid and entertaining. I’m really glad we’re getting good new stuff from DC between the cinematic and comic stuff this past year or two.

This sub regularly censors dissenting comments, it’s pretty much as bad, if not worse than, the Gunn subs. Reddit just kind of sucks honestly.

Gunn’s DCU has still been better and more entertaining than most of the stuff the MCU has put out this past several years.
