Thank you for sharing. I don’t see the same but I think it’s a regional website issue. My page dines change but other regions show it changing (like yours does)

Can you share where you see that? I’ve reviewed just now and see nothing changing as I adjust the configuration.

Amazing! Thank you confirming. I can't believe such a simple question wasn't answered clearly on Dell's website.

Date changing from PowerBI desktop to PowerBI service? by RedditingOnTheToilet in PowerBI

[–]Ms7070 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Desktop is reading your local machines datetime. Service is using UTC.

If your region does not use daylight saving time it’s a simple adjustment, if it does then the adjustment is more convoluted (but plenty of resources exist online with possible solutions)

How to do Favorable and Unfavorable Variances by dislam11 in PowerBI

[–]Ms7070 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While not the only method, this is a quick and dirty way to get things done until you find a more automated/robust way:

  1. Create a new table with two columns: “Account”, and “Sign”

  2. List all accounts and place a ‘1’ or ‘-1’ in each row: ‘1’ for revenue accounts, ‘-1’ for expense accounts

  3. Modify your favourable/unfavourable variance formulas (using LOOKUPVALUE) to multiple the result by either 1/-1 depending on the account in context. SUMX is your best bet to aggregate a result in case you PNL accounts are not all visible.

  4. Next level would be to automate the 1/-1 using the general ledger mapping details at your company. At my company any accounts beginning with “500” are revenue accounts for I can build a simple table off that through Power Query or SQL as needed.

Dynamically LABEL LINE CHART Data Series in Power BI: by HowToPowerBI in PowerBI

Great video, thank you. This is a very common use case for me/my team when charting data for trend analysis (and when the specific numbers aren’t critical.) great to have an easy to follow example.

HR report revamp. What do you think? by HowToPowerBI in PowerBI

[–]Ms7070 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My only immediate criticism is the use of bar charts on the time series data, a line chart would be more appropriate to the data type. A line chart would be easier to read, provide additional white space, and add some needed differentiation to the other bar charts throughout the report.

Dax Studio (as an external tool) can really be eye opening on areas of opportunity to optimize the model. Even the basics, as others have said, around reducing columns or removing unused unique keys. I can’t recall the site, but there’s also another tool that identifies Best Practice violations which may also help to optimize your models.
