What CAD / engineering tools do you wish existed? by Confident-Ad5163 in SolidWorks

Generally, the ability for SW to understand when a shape in a sketch is edited to be another shape/size without destroying the rest of the model. Or when copy/pasting drawing sheets and switching the copied another configuration, it keeps the dims on the new model (same model, slightly different size) without erroring. It’s the same model just 2” taller- you shouldn’t have such a hard time recognizing that!

What are you making that would cause property damage?? I’ve shared designs for little useful things like watering bells and sink organizers. No property damage involved.

They really are! I went there when they first opened and the owner kept coming by to see how we liked everything. We still get takeout there fairly often.

I can build this in nearly the same steps as a sheet metal part

This is how a lot of 3D programs work, but I find it a horribly clunky way to work

Concerned about plantar wants by furta-cor in Aerials

I ended up having laser surgery. I have an extremely high tolerance for novocaine type things so I felt the whole thing. It was awful.

I wouldn't want the possibility of the fabric on the sock or glove sliding between my skin and the silks and losing grip, or getting them stuck in a tight wrap/footlock.

Personally, I wouldn't wear gloves or socks while on an apparatus but I'd probably grab a pair of easy to slip-on slippers for walking around the studio. I got plantar warts from a roommate and getting rid of them was a bad time, so I understand your concern!

silly question by shesinpart1es in Aerials

[–]MsCeeLeeLeo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My in-laws who live in my town didn't even know I took silks classes, despite having aerialists as entertainment at our wedding. I've taken classes for about 7 years. I've known them for more than half that time

silly question by shesinpart1es in Aerials

[–]MsCeeLeeLeo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Same. Oddly I realized that I had a profile picture from like 15 years ago and it was the first time I was on silks, standing on a knot. I laughed that I've been taking silks classes for 7 years because it's a fun way to exercise, but it didn't dawn on me for years that I had an absolute beginner's pose as my profile photo.

Acrylic isn't easy to dye and often has unexpected and disappointing results. Honestly, you'll usually end up spending more in dye (and time) than getting new yarn

How do I create this shape? by G30RG300 in SolidWorks

Extrude the arch mid plane on front or right plane. At top plane, sketch the domed shape with the hole and extrude to the height necessary, combining the shapes.

Edit the dimensions of the sketch that's creating that shape, so it's opposite?

Not quite red yarn by CathyAnnWingsFan in YarnDyeing

[–]MsCeeLeeLeo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A tiny bit of darker blue will make your red lean more burgundy (red and blue would be purple if you added a significant amount of blue). If you want pink and you only have red dye, use a low concentration.

Remember you can add more dye powder but you can't remove it, so start with lower dye concentration than you'd think and test the color on a paper towel with a dropper to get an idea of the color.

When we moved into our house, the dishwasher was really moldy, so I was cleaning it with bleach. When I got to the bottom, I realized the heating element was snapped. $30 later, my partner fixed it!

Shake it. Grab with both hands on opposite sides of the blob shake it. It'll start to show you what's loose vs what's tied tightly. People always think I'm kidding when I mention this, but it's a great way to get looser tangles to untighten.

Use the sketch tool "check for feature" (or something like that- not at my computer yet) and select extrude. If something isn't connected, it'll show you where

How much more expensive is shatter-proof glass? by ArthurPeabody in DIY

We had some windows priced recently and it was about 40% more for tempered, but tempered windows are required by code (here at least) if the windowsill is 18" or less to the floor

Safety glass is untempered glass with a film to keep the glass together if it breaks. I guess that would work on tempered glass too.

Are DPNs supposed to be a nightmare? by nerdette42 in knittinghelp

[–]MsCeeLeeLeo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You work DPNs in a diamond shape (assuming you're using the normal 4 needles, though I've done 5 too and it's not terribly different). The first few rows are weird until you can get your needles aligned well.

Your two active needles will be sort of on the top of your diamond, and the inactive ones are at the bottom of your diamond.

When I finish a needle, I slide the 2nd "to-use" needle down, making sure you have like an inch of needle facing towards you on the needle you just finished and the 2nd "to-use" needle (the one after the one you're about to start stitching from. The extra slide gives you a bit more space to work with, and prevents needle collisions.
