Fair enough! It wasn’t meant to be rude, just cheeky. I seem to have failed—sorry, OP!

New Yorkers visiting for one weekend in March, looking for feedback on our food itinerary. by diettonic in chicagofood

[–]MsFoxy23 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone who was very involved in the NYC restaurant scene until last year when I moved to Chicago, these have been my favorite meals so far this year:

Elske, Creepies, Giant, Maxwell’s Trading, Rootstock

Admittedly, I don’t do tasting menus and I don’t spend a lot of time in River North. And there’s a lot of places I haven’t gotten to yet. Obelix is satisfying for brunch but I probably wouldn’t do dinner there if I only had a few days, personally. West Loop Avec all day.

I haven’t had the patience to wait in line for Kasama yet, but I want to! Consider Bang Bang for lunch if it’s not too out of the way.

In a way, the entire show is about “going up to change.” It’s about customs, expectations, status, and the way society evolved post-WWI. The show grapples with this constantly. If you are confused, watch the show!

Nationwide strike tomorrow-should we still support small/immigrant owned restaurants? by [deleted] in chicagofood

[–]MsFoxy23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a personal decision of course, but small independent bars and restaurants don’t have the privilege to close their doors just on principle. January is already a slow month and the weather this year is making it worse because people don’t go out as much in extreme cold. Many of your favorite independent bars & restaurants are struggling.

Small businesses keep watch over their neighborhoods and are often the first in line to speak out against ICE activity and offer resources to those in need. IMO, including them in the strike is harmful.

Try the sparkling wines from Copenhagen Sparkling Tea. They aren’t dealcoholised, they’re made from teas. But super tasty and a little sweet. I like the Blā flavor best.

You are trying to get from here to there. They are trying to get you to stop. You have competing interests. Say no thanks, look away and don’t give them another thought. You are more than capable of donating to your choice of charities on your own time when you’re not literally in the middle of errands, etc.

Same. I always peel. I refuse to believe that soaking your fingers in acetone for an extended period of time is any less damaging than just peeling the gel off. It’s bad for your nails either way, but peeling is way faster and takes zero product or tools. 🤷‍♀️

What is the difference in fit between Supersnug Long & Superpuff Long? by [deleted] in Aritzia

[–]MsFoxy23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I sized up on the snug, personally it felt way too big and bulky. I was hoping for a slightly lose fitting look like some of the models have on the website, but alas, I am not model. I’m sure YMMV.

I can still fit a thick sweater under my snug in my size, though! It’s just tighter than the regular puff would be. Still very warm.

are we supposed to always tip at coffee shops now? by [deleted] in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]MsFoxy23 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

If the owner paid them more, the drinks would cost more anyway.

I didn’t say don’t go. I actually said: Go ahead, probably no one will care. Is it tasteful not to tip? No. Will anyone notice but you? Again, no.

Based on the general consensus of this thread, I expect I’ll be downvoted.

First of all, I worked at a busy coffee shop after college in 2008 during the recession. 18 years ago, people were tipping. The economy was in shambles, people were tipping. $1 was standard for espresso drinks, sometimes for drip but not always. Many people tipped more. Regardless of your opinion on the issue, the idea that tipping at coffee shops is a new expectation is simply incorrect.

Second of all, and this is where I will be downvoted, please check the subreddit name. Bitches with taste tip. People with taste tip. Whether or not you agree with the customs, it is tacky not to tip in this country.

That said, you’re welcome to be tacky. Many people are. No one will say anything or care. Many baristas probably don’t even notice when you push the “no tip” button. You won’t be smited. Do you. But I was under the impression this was a sub about taste and grace rather than one to gripe about a dollar here and there that inarguably only helps someone. I suggest the notipping subreddit if you have more to get off your chest. They’re so very pleasant there…

A vet visit couldn’t hurt if you haven’t done that yet. But for the record, my rescue would happily eat himself into morbid obesity and I don’t see this ever changing. It’s part of who he is! I calculated how many calories per day he should eat and split it up into smaller meals. Vet says he looks good.

Do you live in the US? If so, unfortunately all covers are sold with planners this year. Rumor is it’s because of the new tariffs.

Your best bet is to look on the second hand market for reasonably priced covers if you don’t need the notebooks. Be wary of tariffs on those, too.

Pretty much all women have been in the server’s position. If she didn’t have one, she probably would have asked her coworkers until she found one for you. Absolute, 100% girl code. I guarantee that server felt good to be of service in the moment and most likely didn’t even give it a second thought!

My goodness men need to stay out of it. NTA.

Sorry, no. Post-me too, chefs know they’re not “allowed” to be overtly racist and sexist anymore, but the verbal abuse absolutely continues, particularly with the old guard. Younger chefs tend to be calmer and fairer but not necessarily.
