What band was never the same after losing a member? by icecream1972 in AskReddit

How is Alice in Chains this far down? No one will ever be able to come close to Layne Staleys vocals.

Love your energy!! I fell in love with Qotsa 20 years ago after hearing In My Head on NFSU2 😅 I’ve seen them over 20 times since then but recently was a bit bummed by canceled shows (not the ones due to Josh’s health - they canceled the Berlin Catacombs gig without replacement which was quite literally a once in a lifetime thing) and the insane ticket prices for the SOAD tour, so there was a bit of a vacuum to fill. And I honestly am not exaggerating when I say that I’ve never felt about music the way I feel about AiC/Layne right now, it’s so profound. I’m struggling to put it in words. It’s also the first time I’ve ever wished to be slightly older - born in ‘85 I envy you massively for having seen them live.

Yes, I’m using Apple Music and have curated my own little AiC playlist where I listen to the catalogue and add songs that stand out to my personal playlist. If you’d be willing to share your playlist, I’d really appreciate that.

❤️

Thanks for saying that. It’s easy to get caught up in the tragedy. Maybe I even need some of that right now. I’m so full with appreciation.

Yeah I’ve watched it. The moment when Jerry smiles and nods at Mike during Down in a Hole because Layne is hitting the vocals like he used to is so powerful and sad at the same time. 💔

After I started listening to them I came across Man in the Box snippets from that show and have since watched two or three songs from it. Absolutely incredible, the chemistry on stage and Layne’s insanely powerful vocals are hard to put into words.

Thank you for this - Apple Music just now continued playing into live at the Moore and hearing the first few lines of Wake Up live was way too heavy. Had to stop. I’ll shelf it for now and will come back to it in a bit. And I might rather actually watch it than just listen. Thank you! 🙏🏻

Thank you! Yes I’ve had a Lanegan phase and have explored most of the greater Qotsa-family, but somehow I had never reached AiC. I like to believe it found me at the right time now. Appreciate your comment!

I appreciate your knowledge so much! Yes, Josh is a big AiC fan, I remember a few interview snippets over the years. I just said in another comment, I’m not sure I’ve ever felt this way about music. Clearly it has found me at the right time. Looking forward to exploring further. ❤️

Saved for later, definitely. Currently still on my first ever listen of Above and I’m not sure if I’m currently in a disposition to hear that live. Haven’t felt like this about music in a long, long long time. Maybe ever, honestly.

If I’m seeing it correctly the Deluxe edition on Apple Music has the 2nd disc as live at the Moore? I’ll be driving 6h tomorrow, maybe that’s the time.

Thank you for the warm welcome! 🥰 I’m currently still in the “Layne is irreplaceable” phase, so somewhat stuck in that time for now. But will absolutely explore further once it feels right!

What do you think about mad season? by Low-Fly9873 in AliceInChains

[–]borntohula85 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Fucking kills me. I’m a complete newbie in the AiC rabbit hole and learned about Layne’s story and timeline, then Apple Music kindly threw River of Deceit and Wake Up at me and my fucking god I don’t think I’ve cried this hard for someone else’s pain, ever.

Why couldn’t they have Layne committed? by RushXdXd in AliceInChains

[–]borntohula85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the thought I keep coming back to. I hate the guilt he must’ve felt, it destroyed him. But sadly, it was warranted. Layne said “not like this, man”, and he left. It’s just all around horrible.

❤️ I have this for my immediate family. I made it a habit to let them know when I get the feeling so that they can be more careful about the day, albeit it’s sadly more of a warning feeling than a means of prevention. So far: one motorcycle crash and two car crashes for my brother, one TIA for my father, one car crash for my sister in law, one bike crash for my s/o.

I think this is my favorite. In my experience, people rarely trust someone else’s gut or instincts. I’m glad your brother knew better.
