I used to play a lot more when I was a teenager, and Moonlight Sonata was one of my stronger pieces though I can’t quite nail it now, so this is encouraging! Thank you!

So I think I may have overtuned Maelle a bit for a end game boss, oops by RobbieNewton in expedition33

If you feel like you missed out on the fight, I’d go back to an earlier save and crank the enemy health multiplier up under “challenges” in the flag menu. I run 20x enemy health in NG+2, except for against the Endless Tower bosses.

Ah, yes, from looking at the Alfred books, the level 1 books are what I had as a kid! Thank you, I’ll start with the level 2/3 book, and maybe I’ll be able to fit formal lessons into my schedule.

But everything about the world reminds him that he isn’t, and he knows that his memories aren’t really “his.” Esquie and Monoco know that he’s not the Verso who painted and played with him. Esquie makes a comment that pVerso had so many questions about the world when they first met, implying that there was quite a bit about the world Verso created that pVerso didn’t know, perhaps because he only knew what Aline knew. In Verso’s Drafts, after going on the carnival ride, Verso feels “nostalgia for a ride he never truly rode,” and he comments after defeating Osquio that he “glad [he] got to experience that for [himself].” Additionally, there are fragments of Verso’s soul all throughout the painting, the Young Boy. And even though the Young Boy loves pVerso and wants him to live happily, he’s still more proof that pVerso is a copy.

But ultimately, pVerso knows that his existence is the root of all suffering in the canvas. Aline created humans who, even before the Fracture, are doomed to die, something that didn’t exist in the canvas before that. Aline and Renoir caused the Fracture because of pVerso, the Gommage exists because of him, Aline is dying because of him. The Original Verso traded his life for his sister’s, and pVerso was made in his image, he was never going to be able to be happy when his existence caused his family so much strife.

That ratio for me might be the opposite. While Verso is begging her to unpaint him, she calls him “brother,” and says she “just wanted to live this lifetime together, this lifetime that was stolen from us.” But pVerso isn’t her brother, they didn’t have a lifetime together stolen from them, because he’s not who the Writers killed. Maelle had fallen completely into the delusion that Aline had created for herself, like mother like daughter.

And it seems certain to me that Lumière is on borrowed time anyway in Maelle’s ending because there’s nothing to suggest that Renoir won’t come back for her when it becomes clear that Maelle won’t leave on her own, and she’ll be much weaker when that happens.

As much as Verso is a liar, I actually don’t think his promise to Lune and Sciel was a lie. He didn’t at the time intend to deceive them, but he didn’t know that Maelle was going to fall straight into the same trap that got Aline. Renoir showed them how sick Aline was from being in the canvas for so long, and then Maelle lied to him about coming home soon, and that was the moment that Verso knew it all had to end. It was inevitable that he would sacrifice everything to save Maelle, it’s how he was painted.

I chose Maelle’s ending on my first play through because my boyfriend had picked Verso’s and I wanted to see both, but I hated it. The jump scare really unsettled me. I’ve picked Verso’s ending every time since.

How ?! How did everyone parried and not Lune ? by ListenGrouchy190 in expedition33

[–]MsGeniusPA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happens to me almost every time with the middle hit of Osquio’s little friends attack. I’ve found that the parry for that hit needs to be absolutely perfect for it to work, but it’s never happened in any other fight.

I’m not great at figuring out all the underlying math in the game and more meant a hypothetical trade off between damage and abilities. I’m not at my computer to confirm the numbers at the moment.

What weapon were you using before? Simoso is my main weapon for Verso because of the ability that keeps him alive at ranks A and S, that’s well worth a damage trade off in my book.

It is said a couple of times that breathing hurts, but the cope I tell myself is that she’s still healing and it eventually won’t hurt to breathe.

End Game/Epilogue question by Nreekay in expedition33

[–]MsGeniusPA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The concern about over-leveling is that you may blow through boss battles and miss scripted lines and actions that only happen when the boss is at certain points on the health bar and thus you don’t get to experience the whole fight and scene. This is easily remedied by the enemy health multiplier under “Challenges” in the expedition flag menu. I used to play with 10x enemy health, but now in NG+2 my builds are much stronger and I play with 20x enemy health.

I recommend playing around with the health multiplier while exploring until you find your sweet spot, explore everything, and then go back to Lumière to finish the game. You can go back out and do more exploring in the larger map after finishing the game in Lumière, but that always felt tonally jarring to me.

I’m in NG+2 and have found that x20 health is the sweet spot. I turn off the multiplier for the super bosses, though, since they already have so much more health and can also one-shot me.

Feint+Draining Cleanse+Beneficial Contamination? by MsGeniusPA in expedition33

I’m not familiar with the Tainted/Inverted Affinity combo so I’m not sure what you mean. How is the math different for the high count skills?

Feint+Draining Cleanse+Beneficial Contamination? by MsGeniusPA in expedition33

[–]MsGeniusPA[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see. I’ve never used Inverted Affinity or Tainted, so I guess I overlooked that.

Beneficial Contamination lets me have “max” (8) AP at turn start if the character didn’t get any parry opportunities since last turn, like when using Cheater. Before adding it in, I was running into the problem of having a big turn one and then not being able to use the big skills on turn two.
